Out: May, Melksham

In: Tomlinson, Langdon

One of Brown or Weideman will most likely come out for McDonald pending the fitness of Petty. If Petty misses due to injury, McDonald to play back and Brown and Weideman get a reprieve.

BBB has credits in the bank. Weeds hasnt even opened an account! He cannot get another game as a forward IMV

BBB is a genuine chance to be dropped this week.

Personally, I'd leave him in, but that's the current goss.

(Not sure what that means for Weid)

If Salem gets picked to play this week then I am going to have multiples.

Would not surprise me at all, he has basically had minimal to zero impact the last 3 weeks. Id give him another go as well, but he is on notice for sure.

All our Fwds led to the same spot all night, 3 big men going against each other, it really was an awful display of forward line set up.

That how May got concussed as well competing with Lever and Petty for the same ball doesn’t look good when your three tall defenders all go for the same mark and one gets knocked out by his teammate.😢😪

Petty and May both on their man, Lever coming over to intercept. That's pretty much our defensive plan every week. Was just bad luck.

If Petty is out along with May, I'm more than comfortable for T Mac to play down back along with Tomlinson who appears an obvious in. T Mac is an excellent one on one defender who is hard to be out marked.

Of course allowing T Mac to go down back  is predicated on BBB and Weid having more than 3 possessions between them, and dare we say it, Brown kicking a goal or 2 which is what we brought him in for from North.

Would bring Plugga (for Petty) & Mitch (for Weid) in if Petty doesnt get up this week.

I agree.

Seeing your two KDs well on their men (at a glance), i would think either wait for the spill out the back or side.

Alternatively look to come over the top and punch it away but in that situation someone needs to stay down and play the rover role IMV.

"In more positive news, Harry Petty will be in the clear to play after some concern around his fitness against the Dockers.

The key defender was dealing with a knee niggle throughout the match, but scans have cleared him of any damage, allowing him to continue training in full this week."

Petty pictured in training with tape around the knee today, hopefully good to go.

Injury report (apologies if this is a repost). TMac, Salem, Harmes, Langon all available , as is Petty (MRI -> no structural damage)

He had one decent game against the Bombers.  I don't like to write any player off but if we have alternative options i would be using them before Weid.  That includes Mitch Brown (ahead of Weid every day for this season for mine).

Re BBB ...at least one more credit 😅

Before we decide the Weid is totally useless at AFL level. I would like to see how he plays I. In The back half.
he can grab the ball or punch it I don’t care but try him at Casey for a few games and suck the lemon and see. He has a  lot of positive attributes . big, agile,  can he read the play NBI

but u would hate to see him succeed at mthe pies in the back line.

we will win this weekend

Encouraging news for Petty according to our Doc:

“MRI has cleared him of any structural injury, and he will look to full train this week leading into our game.″

That is a worthwhile idea if he could actually tackle or had a competitive bone in his body.

Would love to be proven wrong but unfortunately his days as a forward at the Dees are well and truely over.

I hope his biggest backers can admit defeat in their opinion of him being a better Forward than Tmac and BBB.

Hopefully a revitalized Petracca returns this week. We missed his beast mode in the contests last week.  He certainly wasn’t 100% imv.

Goodwin said today on radio that Tracc’s decision to play came down to him saying he was ok, but that decision was a chance for him ‘learn’. I interpreted that as code for ‘shouldn’t have played, and possibly won’t be trusted with the decision making in the future’. He was clearly very ill. Goodie said Tracc told them during the game he didn’t have the energy to get to the contests - so they put him forward.

I had a different interpretation.  It was a chance for Petracca to learn what his body can and can't do.  Really, neither Petracca, Goodwin or the Doctor would know how it would go until they tried.   We don't know whether the illness was ok during the day but got worse as it went on.  I think someone posted that he was seen vomiting at the ground.

Anyway, we had limited options on who to play instead of him.

Yep agree, Horribly out of form. Needs to have a strong second Fwd to help him.

He was supposed to be supported (for much of the match) by Weideman - some chance! The Weed ensured he stayed out of the action, leaving BBB in most circumstances with two defenders to  overcome. Sometimes, three; then one smaller opponent would get under his knees with a lateral body push just after BBB left the ground in a leap, casting BBB outside of the exact marking zone. This is not an excuse for BBB, it is just an observation that he should have anticipated and leading-up, he could have avoided.

Thanks just the same, Weed. Not many teammates are going to seek your assistance and scant teaming from now on...

The passage of play when reviewed is a surprise ... it is almost Lever's right to mark with his tracking of the ball, and the Petty/May cluster did not appear to see him coming.

Oskar Baker would have been a better option than half a Petracca, much better.

It's an interesting question, especially with Majak Daw and JVR both outs due to illness at Casey. Perhaps there was more going on than we know/knew about. At this level, if you're even 5% off it'll have an impact.

There’s a lot of flu, RSV and a super cold getting around . Could have been anything though

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
