Yes. It was interesting to see that absolutely nothing has changed – incredible hometown bias, overwhelming majority of Geelong supporters because Melbourne supporters simply couldn’t get tickets, and the extraordinary homeground advantage, which means Geelong of almost impossible to beat down there.

Our mission this year, and over the next few years should be to make them our bunnies.

What about the enjoyment on the faces of the fans at attending a winning Melbourne match in Geelong at a time when the chances of us bringing home the 4 points was negligible and the prospect of that long drive home in the cold at the end of most games wasn’t exactly tantalizing.

One of my favourite wins of all time that I have attended live, as well as the 2015 game where we given even less of a chance down there.

Very rare that a trip back up the Princess HWy to Melbourne was an enjoyable one.

Clearly we would’ve missed the finals after being in the top 2 mid season, had we lost that game and not arrested a 7 game losing streak.

On this day 65 years ago, the Secretary of the Melbourne Football Club, Mr. James H. Cardwell issued an invitation to a young Ronald Matthews to attend the MCG to meet fellow prospective third and fourth XVIII players ahead of the forthcoming season.

I wonder whatever became of young Ronald?B852777F-41E4-4B28-8199-5D6C1EDADFEE.thumb.jpeg.2536b8d27e2bc21697bdf89d65d31f9c.jpeg

Letter posted on 14 February, 1958 inviting player to attend the MCG on 26 February, 1958.

If that happened these days, the post wouldn’t have been delivered till well after the date. Poor Ronald would have missed out if it happened today.

G'day all!

I was rewatching the final quarter of our 2017 Perth clash against West Coast (the McDonald match winner game) the other week and couldn't help but notice how crucial Cam Pedersen was in the final 10-15 minutes. I was prompted to reminisce a bit into his career with us, and despite never being a world beater, Cam made some very important contributions over his journey in the red and blue.

To make a long story short, here are all 50 goals that Pedders kicked over the six year period that he donned the Demon jumper that I've compiled together in one video. There's some seriously impressive ones here that I had completely forgotten about, such his boundary miracle to seal the win against Carlton in 2014, and his Buddy Franklin-esque running goal against Brisbane in 2017. Plenty of clunks in-between as well!

Go Dees!

There was a period there where I was convinced, and stats sort of backed me up, that we were undefeated with "Pedo" playing, and batted about 30% with him out of the side.

Absolute cult hero figure in my own brain.

Loved going into the rooms prior to the game seeing all the boys warming up and getting rubbed down with the smell of liniment saturating the air, before heading to the red seats to watch the match with my dad and brother

A friend of mine always sat behind the bench as she was addicted to the smell of liniment. At least that was what she always told us. Looking at you Jan.

Incredibly, and promise this in true, I’m in that photo. Bottom centre, blonde/redhead kid in the royal blue Melbourne jumper. They guy on my right in the blue top was my only Demons-following mate, who I only remember by his nickname, [censored]. It was a different time, but just to clear, he was not indigenous to any extent or anything else, but I have no idea how he got that nickname.

My mum bought me that jumper from Venture as a special treat when we changed the blue. I was able to find it and wore it for the first time in 35 years to the MCG premiership celebration in 21. It was a tad tight!

This photo must be around 1986.

Would it be from the finals considering it says Geelong U19s and Melbourne Seniors? Must be at least 87 considering the navy blue footy jumpers. Could be from 1990 onwards considering the logo on the dressing rooms (or was that always there before the club officially changed from the 80s Demon logo?)

Yes you point to two interesting pieces of evidence Doctor that were troubling me slightly. Definitely 87 or later. 1990 feels too late. If I may tender more evidence, I do have in my possession a coffee mug I bought at the Junction Oval at the last training session before the 88 Grand Final. It has “Demons” in that same flame-like script, so we were definitely using it by then.

I also wondered if the gent near the door you can just make ou wearing a tie is young Todd Viney, which obviously also puts it at 87 or later.

On the balance of probability I think 1988.

Probably one of the more bizarre moments in club history here.

No kicking to the LHS Fwd Pkt, absolutely awesome flow of scoring. Forwards led out, made space, dominant midfield got the message. Carna far Ken Dees!

At the end when they say the last quarter was the highest scoring in MFC history, I wonder if our scoring in the last quarter of the GF beat that record!

Here's a match I had great pleasure revisiting and editing.

Safe to say Maxy's come a long way in the last 12 years, and I'm not just talking about the beard!

Stay tuned, plenty more to come!

Wow they were really obsessed with how tall Gawn was geeze. Also how much does Mackenzie look like clarry even the same number!

    TRAINING: Monday 16th December 2024

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
