No change.

”Resting” players isn't good for the continuity of their match day fitness, which is a huge weapon of ours

I reckon Gawn played hurt in the second half.  Hardly anytime on ball and a lot of the last quarter on the pine. Was riding the bike a bit too.  Might be a good time to let him sit one out.  He's got a big few weeks coming up.

Yeah he was getting physio treatment on his neck during the game

Lever is playing hurt. If a week or two off will help him - then Adam T will be adequate replacement.

Hunt did well on Higgins, Salem coming back is a huge decision. Hunt or Rivers? Not going to be Bowey.

Everything I hear is that Lever by his own admission didn't come back fit enough post 2021, and (this is my own thought) he is paying the price a bit this year in terms of injuries and lack of continuity.

He is a very smart player and doesn't need to rack up the kilometres so has been a valuable contributor in games he has played despite the above. Even so, I reckon he would benefit by using the next couple of weeks to get his body right and get a bit of fitness back.

If he doesn't he'd probably still get through the year ok and be a very handy player for us - just not the absolute best Jake Lever he can be.

I've always felt like Lever takes a few weeks to find his groove on any return though, whether it is form, pace of the game or "match fitness" I'm not sure.

So it might depend on whether the coaches this his current slow going is lack of fitness or just needing time to bed down the "match fitness".

That being said, if he has an actual injury I'm not against a week off resting for anyone the next few weeks; I want to be fully fit for Brisbane late June.

I reckon a couple of big wins would do more good for us than a short rest for a couple of blokes, i reckon we re-enforce the ruthless culture, smack both teams, reach 10-0

But would he have to fight his way back through Casey 😱

Play very wide of the Eagles to avoid 🇨🇳🦠

Afrikaans I believe use the small van / von.

And yet, youve' u'sed them perfectly well here. I no because I'm a English teacher.

Lever and Jordan might need a rest, not sure what Jordon did but he was on one leg for most of the last quarter, he rolled in a contest and took a little to get back up.

He did look a bit sore but still hit contests well and nailed at least one fantastic long kick not long after this, so I get the feeling it wasn't too serious.

Fritsch did nothing but he has plenty of tickets in the bank, plus will probably kick 8 vs the Eagles

Slow day but still pinched one, meanwhile we ran rampant at times around him and won pretty comfortably.

He is averaging 2 per game vs 2.4 last year and has averaged about 8 disposals (down from >10 last year), so yeah, down on form but he is our leading goal scorer, he has kicked a goal every week, and at least two every round except this week and round 2.

I reckon we're getting a bit spoilt if we are even considering dropping our leading goal scorer who averages 2 per game!

Didn't play for Casey today, but I don't know the reason for that.

Could he have been the hold over emergency?

Gawn didn’t look 100%

Quite possibly.  Laurie was also held over and didn't play for Casey.

Goody is pulling your leg.
Lever was visibly limping and couldn’t put weight on the foot. He hurt it and was taking lots of painkillers.

He got a corky early in the game & towards the end of the game was suffering from cramp ..in the leg with the corky ..reduced blood supply. It wasn’t his foot.

I don't expect any changes.

If Jake Lever isn't 100% fit from his corkie we can always slot Adam Tomlinson back in who has shown good form in the VFL at Casey.

If Max Gawn isn't 100% fit we can always play Majak Daw alongside Luke Jackson in the ruck. I know Majak Daw has been playing well in the ruck for Casey in the VFL too.

It will be a case of one soldier out and one soldier in as long as that player follows their assigned role in the team.

Anyway, both Jake Lever and Max Gawn have a few days to recuperate until our match against West Coast next Sunday evening in Perth.

At half time Lever was on the bike during the team meeting  - everyone else was seated. That was probably for the corky

But he also had one boot off. Just sayin...

Mightn't be either of them. Depends on whether Brayshaw remains in the back seven. If the decision is to play Salem in his old role and keep Brayshaw as a defender, then I think Rivers might be in trouble. If Brayshaw returns to the wing, though, Jordon might find himself back as the sub.

I should add that I think Hunt is safe because I believe he's taken over Jetta's job as the "stopper" on the most damaging small forward. He's made Shai Bolton and Jack Higgins virtually disappear from view.

Would you take pain killers for a corky?

Aren't there some medications that can be injected for muscle pains?

There was vision of him getting the corky strapped (left thigh) and taking pain killers at the same time. Not sure that strapping helps a great deal with a corky either, but that's what he came off for and the treatment he got.

Lachy Reed from TEN Perth reporting Max going for scans today, no other news. I thought it was a pretty quiet game from Max after 3 weeks of dominance.

Watch this space.

Query over Lever and Gawn.

Depends on how Lever pulled up. Icing on corkie for a few days and see how the bleeding goes. Got full 7 days recovery so should be ok.

Might just rest Gawn in any event.  Unleash Jackson v Eagles and put Majak in as backup ruck.

Just a shame that Joel Smith is injured, but I think Tomlinson gets his chance has Jake can get some much needed healing.

Other than that I wouldn't be throwing too much brain candy around in terms of resting guys at this stage. If you're ready to go you go.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
