We know the effects vary markedly between individuals, and not wanting to be too much of a downer, but this is an interesting study.

    Jackson and Kozzi outs are the ones I’m most interested to see how we replace. 
     

    Can we turn a midfield and can we sustain fwd pressure. Can’t wait to see.

    Would that study apply to those players who contracted the Delta variant which seemed to have had harsher symptoms but not as virulent as Omicron. Also in March 2020 had they been vaccinated.

    Obviously we are all hoping that because they are young and fit and vaccinated that they will be available asap after iso.

    Considering the outs the inclusions are pretty handy, Kozzie will be hard to replace as I don’t think people understand how important his 2nd/3rd/4th efforts are. LJ out sucks as well but he’s been a little off touch lately so TMac gets a chance to reclaim his spot. 

    Question will be does Weid slot into being second ruck or will in be shared equally between him and Tom (with a bit of Brown in the forward half)?

    Suspect Weid will do the pinch hitting work in the middle but probably very limited.

    Duties shared between him, BB & Maxy up forward.  Plugger might get the odd look in if no one else is about to take it but would expect zero otherwise.

    We all got the virus and my 21 year old sporty son was hit the hardest. It took him a month to get over it. Its very unpredictable. I hope Oliver has already had it!

    Kozzi and Jackson are not replaceable as such imo. We lose pressure up fwd and we lose everything LJ brings uniquely. 

    no offence to Sparrow or a Petty but the lose is felt less imo

    still should beat the squalks though

    I'm actually happy Tommy get's another game.  Think he usually gives good effort and frequently gets involved in the play through some kind of team act .

    Hopefully he's got some confidence and added hunger after his first reserves game in a fair while.

    Playing VFL for the first time this week. No match fitness and I'm assuming they won't rush him back as we don't need to. :)

    Emergencies are interesting. Could be the last chance Baker and Mitch Brown have to run out in the firsts, thought we'd seen the last of them. Thomlinson a decent backup for any of the backs.

    I actually think playing second ruck is good for Weid.  It forces him into the action in a physical way and gives him the opertuity to get his hands on the ball a bit and be involved with the play, from which he can build some touch and confidence within games.

    Additionally, if he can actually make a half decient fist of the ruck duties part, what versatility that could give us during games, even when both Max and Dogga are available.  Teams seem to have enough trouble dealing with the change in style between Max and Dogga, what if we could confidently throw Weid into the ruck to mix things up even more?

    Weid was gearing up to be 2nd ruck/fwd before Jackson fell to us.

    He will surprise a few in the stoppages I think.

    They are not foot ballers they are soccer players Big difference. You see these guys being knocked over my a feather and then writhe on the ground  in agony for minutes 

    They appear not to be able to cope with much adversity

    Michell had a day out against us the last time we played in the draw.  Newcomb while very inexperienced is playing some very good damaging footy and seems to have a semi decent tank at least for 3 quarters.  Worpel a bit hit n miss.  Omeara is off at the mo but you never know.

    If their mid clicks they can be pretty dangerous and they move the ball quickly into the forward line from center under 666.  Big incentive with Bruce down there.  Rarely misses.

    They got off to a flyer against the Swans last week who often do that to others at times (at one stage near end of the first it was 34-7 or so) and were right in it up to about the 10 minute mark of the last where they seemed to run out of puff and lose their structure around the ball.

    We would want to be at our best and have our kicking boots on.

    My point in adding the link was that, whilst many or most younger folk get through Covid pretty simply, there ae a few who have long lasting effects particularly in terms of fatigue and endurance.  

    Hoping that this isn't the case with any of ours.

    The 'dangerman' will be Gunston.   Didn't play last year.  He is a smart player in fine form.  They will look for him when on a break.  Shiels plays well against us.  Breust is also scoring well. 

    I'm guessing they will look to move the ball very quickly denying us the ability to roll back and set up our defence.  

    Hoping that if we have a good lead in the last quarter that we keep going and not shut the game down.

    Win by 3-5 goals.

We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

      I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

    • CASEY: Werribee

      The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
