Relaaax! We're all lucky they even have RAT tests available now.

I just went and bought some, but I had to go all the way to the ATM machine first to get some cash money out. Would you believe I forgot my PIN number while I was there and then on the way home a police officer pulled me over so he could run my VIN number as well.

At least now I'm home I can watch the grand final replay on my nice new LCD display.

That's still a very strong side assuming there are no further changes.

Gee our backline has had some bad luck

It has. But all the players there know the defensive system. There's no weak link. They miss Salem. Petty too - but Smith can do the job.

After all the drama, the changes are pretty even.

Viney > Sparrow, Lever > Petty but Pickett > Bedford and Jackson > Tmac

  • Demonland changed the title to Goodwin, Jackson, Pickett, Sparrow & Petty All Out with COVID

I'm more concerned as to whether Viney plays. He didn't train yesterday, whereas Lever did. I suppose we'll know more after the Captain's Run.

He's been pretty crook this week, wouldn't be surprised to see a late change. (But hopefully not!)

Yze talked about yesterday. JViney was doing some training today, and will be there tomorrow.

Petty didn’t train Wednesday so it’s not surprising he also has it. I hope Joel has a cracker. Still a very good side. Hopefully no more illness and a big win. 🤞🤞🤞

Think jack went into iso later than Jake

Yze said in his press conference yesterday that he was coming out of isolation today and will be undertaking full training.

What I learnt in this thread is everyone (including myself) fired off a lot of arrows of speculation during the week and not one hit the target..

I'll believe it when I see it.

I've heard that Spargo and Bedford are also out.

That would be so unlucky for Bedford!

And its not ATM machines while we're at it!

That can't be right. We're the Melbourne Football Club. We don't have common sponsors. We have up-market, classy ones befitting of our status.

Knowing how much a Platinum Player sponsorship costs x 2, I would suggest there is nothing "common" about it.

I count 8 players that have been the subject of H&S protocols so far this season.  I'm assuming with the changes to close-contacts no longer needing to isolate since 20th April that means that Lever, Viney, Petty, Pickett, Jackson and Sparrow have all had Covid.  I'm not sure whether BBB and Joel Smith have or were Close contacts.

Unfortunately people can get Covid twice  but I think it would be highly unlikely that players who get it during the season would get it again so soon before the season concluded.  In short players that miss now with Covid are unlikely to find themselves missing again during the season (which might be pretty significant come finals time - just after winter when it's predicted Covid will spike again)

I know from one news article that in January about 50 AFL players had Covid and we were certainly one of the clubs affected according to the rumours.  Does anybody what players had Covid during the preseason?

I recall the 50 was more like 200 and Pert said this morning that most players have already had it within the MFC team.

How does not one reporter ask the sentimental question about how it feels to senior coach the club you played for, I think it’s pretty special, hasn’t happened many times for the MFC, last one was Barassi?

Happened a few times in the recient history of the MFC actually.

Last time it happed was when Todd Viney coached the team for half a dozen games, following the sacking of Dean Bailey.  Todd actually did a half decient job too I thought from memory.  Won a game and at least seemed to have the boys playing with some spirit an intensity.  What a CV the Viney's now have between them.  Father/Son, x 2 captains, 388 games between them to date, 3 B&Fs, x 2 rising star nominations, coach of the MFC, 1 x MFC team of the century, 1 x MFC premership player.  MFC royalty.    (Actually @Webber, if you are looking for another MFC inspired painting subject again sometime, how about a bit if a repaint of the MFC team of the century, with a young kid Jack Viney hanging around the rooms pulling a premership medalion out of the locker or kit bag of Todd or something?? 😉)

The other fairly recient instance of ex MFC player come coach was Greg Hutchinson, whom coached for around a dozen games as caretaker coach following the sacking of Neil Balme.  Greg similarly did a half decient job as care taker coach, winning several game with a team that previously struggled for form.

Wounder if since they all have COVID, they could all do a training session together?

If so, they should have a good old fashioned kick to kick and specky competition at the end and try to help Kossie get his technique and confidence right, so he can fully execute them on game day.  He would have just about had a mark of the year contender every round this season if he just hold onto the ball long enough to complete the mark.

Harry Petty could simialy provide some more good aerial entertainment I feel and what can't Dogga do well in footy?

Another drill with some goal kicking practice for Sparrow, Kossie and Dogga, while Harry practices kicking out from full back to return the ball.

Goody to fetch the ball behind goals and be the judge of the specky comp.

Not the worst idea....if they can actually get out of bed that is... Lots of data coming out that even professional athletes that have little to no symptoms are still impacted in lung health for upto a month. Dr Peter Larkin mentioned this on the radio earlier in the week.

As Dan Andrews said in every second presser - "this thing spreads like wild fire".

If our man Daniel said it, it must be true.

  • REPORT: Brisbane

“Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

  • CASEY: Southport

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.

Just a game and percentage outside the Top 8, the Demons return to Melbourne to face the Sydney Swans at the MCG, with a golden opportunity to build on the momentum from toppling the reigning premiers on their own turf. Who comes in, and who makes way?
