We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. New strategy for getting away with umpire dissent...

Do the thumbs up after you have lifted your arms like Clarry haha.

i didn't notice it tonight, but I think Max suggested this as a tactic earlier in the week. Gus mentioned it in the Gus and Gawny podcast.

Too right. Bolton is their match-winner. Hunt was great.

First half Hunt tagged him, second half we went back to team defence. Bolton has the ability to influence in the first half and then fade out, Hunt did a great job on him, Rivers gave him a chop out in the second while he had a rest.

Pretty pathetic if that is the case that they all would rather loose in the most drawn out way possible than put it all on the line and see if they can match us

But that’s what you do when you’re trying to keep the game close so you might get a chance to win.
Who have we played so far that had a chance in hell of beating us playing their own game?
Dogs maybe, but after last year they were terrified and rightly so.

Fair comment. I thaught the Gold Coast win was the hardest and the 2 worst teams we have played were Essendon and Richmond. In fact Richmond by a country mike. At least port were competative around the ground.

Make no mistake, that was an annihilation. Unbelievably frustrating to watch though. Moving on.

One of the strangest, if not the strangest games I've ever watched. Had we kicked straight it would have been near 100 points. We were that dominant, hey? And Richmond were lucky they took their chances, otherwise it could have still been 5-6 goal win. 30+ scoring shots is insane. And yet with 5 minutes to go there was a slight pang of nervousness amongst the MFC crowd. Bizarre.

I had one concern going into the game. All I'll say is I hope Jake Lever is back next week. Alternatively, Turner might need a game.

No love for Langdon??? I thought he was second best on ground tonight after Oliver. Brayshaw couldn't speak  more highly enough of Ed on radio after the game and said that Langdon is one of the most crucial players in the team which we all know, but still nice to hear.

Credit to our backline... May, Smith and a few others got heavy hits early and still played out the game. There will definitely be some sore guys for the next few days. May played the entire game on one leg with a bad corkie. What a trooper!

There’s plenty of love for Langdon on here and he is crucial for us…he just didn’t have a great first half. I thought he was sloppy, like a lot of our players, but he’s he made up for it with an outstanding second half.

Saw the marking contest where May copped the corkie and the bloke is a superstar. Thought Brown looked a bit proppy also and continued to come on and off the ground. Thought Browns influence in the first half was very important…continued to make contests and bring the ball to ground despite awful delivery.

Expected score was 102-49. Not exactly a 100 point margin.

There were a few bad misses - Gawn, Spargo, Fritsch and ANB go 0 from 4 set shots, Pickett not passing then missing.

But over it was 4-5 goals we left out there.

A very good Richmond backline which had the right match ups for us forced us in to a lot of bad shots. We need to work out how to score when we don’t have a clear match up advantage

Petty has been outstanding in his first two games back. Loved his progression last year but he's gone to a new level so far this season. Easy to see why he's so highly rated internally.

He is a star.

Easy to forget he's super young for a key position defende.

Agree he's gone up a level. He's stronger and even though he was always hard at, is even more so now. He hits to hurt.

Haven't seen anyone comment on him yet but Jackson looked way off the boil tonight. Poor efforts around the ground, uncharacteristically fumbly and had a horrible non-spoiling effort in the back 50 that prompted Brayshaw to give him a good spray.

Hopefully just an off night.

Speaking of hits to hurt, how good was it seeing Bowey with that tackle on Parker and that attempted hip and shoulder at speed. Kids not afraid of throwing his 40kg frame around.

Agree. Had a Barry Crocker. As did ANB and some of Rivers' work was less assured than usual.

There were whispers pre game he may be a late out. Perhaps under an injury cloud?

The bad goal kicking was mainly through bad decision making and not properly thinking things through.

Agreed, we were very fumbly all over though and part of it is down to the pressure from the Tigers. They went all in on making sure we couldn't dispose of it without pressure but they didn't have much going back the other way. Once we got the game played in our forward half they had nothing really other than those 3 quick goals at the end of the 2nd quarter.

Agree with the sentiment here, that really was a 10+ goal win we just didn't convert so many that we usually would, ANB x2, Gawn, Pickett, Petracca, Harmes - I'm sure theres probably some others too.

Both teams seemed to play as though it was quite slippery which was weird considering how beautiful it's been in Melbourne this weekend but walking out after the game it felt like the temp dropped at least 5 degrees on exiting the stadium so perhaps there was plenty of dew on the grass to make it a bit tricky. Players falling over and fumbling uncharacteristically on both sides.

Part of that is the AFL's ridiculous notion of not letting the teams kick the balls in during their pre-match.  When they are brand new even the red balls are slippery, but if anyone has ever kicked a brand new yellow Sherrin around you'll know how annoying slippery they are until they get some miles on them.

Umpiring was very kind to us, but nothing paid was not there. Trac should have been pinged for holding the ball but so should have Bolton.
The only real dodgy one was the umpire calling Balta to play on when he said he was going for goal.
Also I shall bottle up the salty Richmond tears and enjoy them for breakfast.

Plus Lynch's first goal was an absolute gift.

You'll get shouted down for being spoilt but I agree. I watched the 3rd quarter from last week several times but the rest I haven't really felt compelled to go back and watch.

I put it down partly to the wins and getting that flag - in the past I'd obsessively watch trying to identify areas for improvement etc because I'm a maniac who acted as though he was in the FD. Now I'm just enjoying banking the wins til we get to the business end of the season.

Weeds game has changed. He's one or two mtrs ahead of where he used to position himself before which is giving more contested possession and ground action.

Really good work for handball, shepherding and big body presence.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
