Not including hyphenated surnames, the only past or current player with more syllables in his surname that I can think of is Robert DiPierDomenico.

That-dirty-rotten-little-stager-Weightman has ELEVEN.

Bulldogs have no ticker, so if the Roos can keep the heat on and prevent the Dogs from having it all on their terms, they could well have a shot - probably too far back though after that joke of a 1st quarter.

Kangas with 4 in a row. Doggies players looking confused and frustrated with the free kick count going against them. Unusual territory for them.

Edit - 5 in a row

It's like the umpires feel they have to pay a free in every marking contest.

Go Kangas!

Doggies have no soul, front runners all day

Kangas showing real grit

North showing up one of the Dogs weaknesses - defensive running. As soon as the Roos get gut run running forward from contested ball, 2-3- Dogs players plod on behind with little real effort. The dogs talent is way over and above the Roos, but the effort of the young Roos boys is great to watch. It is going to take some time but I love what Noble is doing - taking the hard hits and losses but basing a team on defensive contested play.

AFL have offered the Royal Children Hospital $100 for every Free paid today. Umps doing their bit.

I reckon no matter how far the dogs get in front, no team will think they're out of it as long as they can arrest momentum and make the dogs run the other way.

Horne - Francis looks very good. I know people will slag them off, but North is tracking in the right direction imo

"honourable loss' coming up

Actually .... I withdraw prediction about "honourable loss". Looks like carnage.

North Melbourne's sub looks 12 years old. He's still taller than Caleb Daniel though.

This Good Friday ‘blockbuster’ is taking the theme of penance too literally. I don’t know what we all did wrong, but it was obviously really, really bad.

Id rather watch Hawkins remove his mouthguard after being awarded a free kick in front of goal.

Well nearly

You guys are watching this rubbish??

i spent the arvo weeding and I reckon it would have been more enjoyable

They've conjured up a game that's less interesting than the Good Friday appeal.

But …. it is “traditional” …. after what, 4 years 🤦‍♂️

It's a strange recipe of pity mixed with ambivalence, with a sprinkle of "why don't they just give up and fold"?

Maybe they will head off to Tassie and save us all the absurdity and inequity  of a bye every week.

Geez Stephenson is a nothing player. you hope the  Roos picked him up for a bargain.  Can’t see him lasting beyond the next contract.

Unwatchable.

I think I might watch an old Carry On movie ... Either that or watch paint dry.

It's on such days that it is best to relive the glory of the GF replay ... from the 13 minute mark of the third quarter of course preferably with Dennis Commetti's commentary

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.

  • REPORT: Richmond

Mars is not usually a place known for lighting strikes but on Friday evening it happened twice in the vicinity of the stadium in Ballarat that carries the name and is a half completed building site with limited capacity for spectators.
