POSTGAME: Rd 03 vs Essendon

Thank god that’s over. Terrible quality game. Happy to bank four points and move on.

Well done to Weid on his return. Took his opportunity and was the best forward on the ground.

That was a great game I thought.

Got there - a slightly un-Melbourne scoreline (oppo kicked 70 points rather than 50-60) but we got the Melbourne margin (20-30).

20 marks for Gus!!! Wow…

Told you all that Weideman was a good selection pre game.

Nah jk I put my hand up. That was like Weideman of the 2018 finals series. More of that thanks.

Tom McDonald on the other hand is depth now. Casey. Whatever it takes.

One game I'd rather forget and move on with the win.

Another very professional win. We were challenged throughout most of the game but we've developed an outstanding ability to grind out wins when we're not at our absolute best.

Oliver played one of his usual brilliant games. Brayshaw just keeps getting better every week. He and Langdon have become a killer wing duo. Weideman's earned himself another game. Good on him.

Gus is Mr Fixit, very happy for Weid.
Oliver is sublime.

Keep banking points.

Those posters who called an end to Weid’s career in the Casey thread last week, the floor is yours.

Incredibly frustrating.

Takeaways: 4 points and Weid looked great and took his opportunity, will be great to have him as another forward option this year. Looked confident, and happy! Gus was good out back. Clarry immense.

Things aren't clicking yet, but we're 3-0, beaten two top 8 teams and plenty of time to work things out.

On to Port!

Weid deserves to stay in next week (from a SW doubter).

TMAC needs a lesson or 2 in humility. Maybe May could teach him, as he was well humbled tonight.

Clarry BOG. Brayshaw very good as well

Well done Weid with 4 goals. Keeps his place. TMac back to Casey to try and find some form

Bank the 4 points and move on

Looking at Tommy walking off the ground I reckon he knows what's on the cards - possibly no Ben Brown next week, so he might have one more chance in the side but if Brown is in I reckon it's for McDonald.

Considering the experience that is out, i will take a 5 goal win.
No injuries and 4 points at Round 3

onward…

Can’t win a premiership in April, but you can certainly lose one.

Still stuck in 2nd trying to get to 3rd.

You clamp down on Petracca and all that does is let Oliver run rampant. We are a hard team to stop.

I know some posters will flame us for the scrappiness of that effort but "Bang Bang Bang" footy isn't needed at this time of year. Bank the points, reset, recalibrate and move onto next week.

Very happy to see Weideman do well. He keeps his spot ahead of TMac for sure, IMO.

Bank the 4 and a great deal of regrouping required before Port in 6 days.

Last week likely took it’s toll but there’s adjustments to be made and some players that need a bit of a rocket.

Lever et al. can’t come back soon enough and once Brown returns, TMac is on borrowed time given Weid’s performance. I simply believe he adds nothing for us if he can’t take a mark anymore.

Pickett can’t live off occasional displays of brilliance for much longer either.

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
