Did the AFL do anything after the 2000 GF?

They suspended Michael Long for 4 games.

Three of which were served in the 2001 Ansett Cup.

Howes looks clean and he has good pace and size. He runs on top of the ground a bit like Kelly from GWS and Gunston. He needs to find more of the ball but what he does do looks pretty classy.

"Runs on top of the ground". What does actually mean? He is quick? I feel like "runs on top of the ground" is used a lot and I have got no idea.

Can any Casey watchers please tell us:

1/ how is Mitch Brown?

2/ why was JVR a late withdrawal?

I tried to ring the club today as a concerned member and enquire what the club intends to do about this off the ball incident in which Mitch Brown was injured. I got a voice mail, leave a message. I'm serious about this there should be a full investigation. Mitch Brown may have been on the cusp of senior selection , but that pails into insignificance if an off the ball incident occured.

Player wellbeing no 1!

JVR no idea whey he didn't suit up. He trained strongly today!

Casey from Casey have you got any news on Mitch Brown??

Grrrrrrrrr

next weeks game against Williamstown is a night match.

One of my favourite venues on a windless afternoon

And we play Coburg at Casey the following week and not at the delightful Coburg oval.

Hopefully we play at the temple of the Burra Burger

Howes looks good hitting backs and crumbing well

I guess we have to presume that the hypocritical VFL continue to pay lip service to issues of concussion and behind the play hits ….. unless I have missed something Mitch Browns assailant has got off scot free.
Any updates on his condition?

(And still nothing about JVR’s late withdrawal).

Move across the ground like a deer not a Caribou.

Caribou are deer, aren't they?

Ha ha they are bloody big Deer.!!

So, I've noticed this over the last few seasons at VFL level...

Is there a reason no one is getting big possession numbers anymore?

I remember when ANB first came on the scene he was getting 30's...when Grimes & Trengove were on the outer they were also regularly racking up 30's...

...but now Dunstan for example is hardly knocking the door down with 15 touches.

And spraying most of them.

I think(?) it’s got to do with the system and rotations. We don’t have a regular midfield brigade out there like we have with Trac and Clarry. I will say that Dunstan has been in and under in the first two rounds so he should be the exception. Laurie got a good run through the guts in round 1, less so in 2. I guess just learning roles and system and it’s about how we play, rather than player X getting 30? I’ll be keeping an eye out this week that’s for sure

that second goal from howes is very, very exciting - goes back with the flight, takes the mark, runs into an open goal

kid looks goodly

Yep! Looks a very smooth mover,

Is there any footage available for the hit on Brown?

It's available on the replay on the Official Melbourne site, just before quarter time. He turned to follow the ball and an Essendon player basically shirt fronted him. I can't believe the Tribunal allowed it to get a 'pass'.

As with the senior side Casey seem to be playing a faster ball movement and less possession game than a few years ago.

It was also swirly breeze but dry from what I saw of the game. That lends itself to low possessions. As the season progress especially if it’s wet the ball will stick around stoppages for long,

I’d still imagine Dunstan will average 25 plus. And hopefully the young guys who get on ball minutes will start to push consistently above 20.

It's not just last weeks game but has been consistent over the last few seasons including covid and pre covid...

I only notice our team but is it across the board? Is it a trend in the VFL or is it something to do with how we are developing our players and game plan?

I remember ANB going back to Casey a couple of years back and his stats were around high teens early 20's, where in his first few seasons when playing at Casey he was picking up mid 30's.

Howes was interesting on the weekend, had a good first half then lucky to get a touch in the 2nd.

Anyway, it's something that's been on my mind for a while now and looking at the game stats for the weekend just got me thinking again.

I thought Dunstan should have done a lot more. Went ok but won't get a call up on that form.

I watched it a fee times and it is a bit unclear if he hit him.

But what is clear is that Brown went to ground and was subbed out of the game.

I have assumed he was concussed- has that been confirmed.

If yes, then it defies logic that it didn't warrant, at the very least, a hearing.

  • REPORT: Adelaide

The atmosphere at the Melbourne Football Club at the beginning of the season was aspirational following an injury-plagued year in 2024. Coach Simon Goodwin had lofty expectations with the return of key players, the anticipated improvement from a maturing group with a few years of experience under their belts, and some exceptional young talent also joining the ranks. All of that went by the wayside as the team failed to click into action early on. It rallied briefly with a new strategy but has fallen again with five more  consecutive defeats.

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs Adelaide

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.
