Libber's the master thrower. He knows if he's facing the boundary line he can give a full on rugby pass and the ump will most likely be blindsided and give him the benefit of the doubt. The other one he does is the dive on the ball/two handed scoop out the front, done simultaneously. The umps are sitting ducks for both. The whole football world sees it. Why can't the umps? It's mind boggling.

Last week Buckley said coaches train players to go two handed when near the ground.  He and other commentators then talked about scooping the ball out but they didn't/wouldn't call it a throw.

He also complemented a Pies player for being adept at lowering his centre of gravity to get a free.  Such action is is illegal and is more like ducking.

Some teams get away with it more often.  Cue the Bulldogs.

You can now bet on the Dog's opponent next game getting a decent run.

Richmond home game. Their fans will make so much noise to ensure it happens.

Last night was truly terrible umpiring. So biased.

My favorite was when Keefe got a 50 for a late jump into his back (which was there) and he got taken from the half back flank to 25 metres out. It had to be 80 metres. It was so far I thought he got given 2 x 50 metres but I don't think so. I think it set a new world record! "Longest fitty eva" Well done that umpire.

Out of interest, since I'm not in Vic, has this topic been the subject of much talkback today or is the AFL like some communist regime where you might disappear if you talk about it?

All is in the open, Comrade loges. 'Just don't get caught' is the whisper...particularly if you don't wish to work in the ice and snow on meagre rations.

Last I saw it was Footscray 22 to Tigers 11 late in game.

Freo 38 to Giants 16 in Perth.

I’ve never seen a team get 42 free kicks in a game before! Freo 42 versus 16.

must be some kind of answer the ultimate question or something…

A lot of vital ones came late. I suspect the umpires gambled on the game. They didn’t really need to do the late ones, but looked like they were making sure. GWS players pretty much just give up after some bad calls. But giving up doesn’t solve anything.

I think there is a severe problem of interpretation at the highest levels, and it will be a WORK IN PROGRESS until half way through the season.

The severe problem with interpretation is that there is interpretation. The umpires department lacks the courage of its convictions to referee the game according to the written rules.

Look up Carlton v Melbourne Round 10 1993 and have a look at the free kick count in that game coach. I only remember that game because it potentially cost Greg Williams the Brownlow, he had 44 possessions and didn’t get a single vote.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
