I keep reading โ€œHarry Potter out for 4-6โ€

Yet another example now of a premiership team never starting the next season with the exact same lineup.

Good luck to harryย  and once again what a great time to have depth.

I reckon Smith will be preferred over Hibberd this year. He was basically first choice at the end of last year. Hibberd only played prelim and granny once Smith got injured.

Played very well though.ย

Heโ€™s not the first player to get pantsed but Charlie. Itโ€™s when lesser lights beat you that you need to worry

Tomlo is probably not quite ready, but they love Smith, and the Van Rooyen is taking big strides. Embarrassment of riches.ย

He's young and will bounce back I'm sure

We have great options to cover his injury. Would love to see Thommo get the nod (if fit). He was outstanding until injured last year (iirc he held Hawkins to one goal in our early season clash with the Cats)

Why are you saying that Tomlinson isnโ€™t ready? By all accounts he is in full training and has played in the club hit outs.ย
If our new club doc, ย and his orthopedic specialist and our fitness guru say โ€œgoโ€, then I would certainly have him ahead of the unlucky but less than consistent Smith.ย

Surgery to release bleeding?

Surely leeches would be effective ๐Ÿ˜‰

This is not a common procedure surgery to release bleeding. Possibly worried about potential thrombosis given that it is in his calf??

Did he? I seem to recall that Cameron was on a rampage when Smith got moved onto him and while Smith didn't completely stop him, his output was far less.

I'm not the biggest Smith fan, but his output is always better than I anticipate. He grabs and holds his opponents to stay close and gets away with it. In my opinion he has been lucky with the umpires on a few occasions.ย  I thought he was going to be a real gun as a forward a few years ago.

Nah Smith was on Cameron from the start and was responsible for a number of his goals.

Tommo was terrific. Reliable, strong one on one, a terrific kick and a key part of the structure and system in the first third of the season.

But i reckon it is important to note that he and Petty played pretty different roles. Tommo was really much more a lock down defender that played tight man on man. More often that not he was also the deepest player in the goal keeper role that Omac played.ย

With Petty in the team, the structure is much more fluid, with May often being the deepest, but Petty also rolling back into that slot, and less frequently Lever too.

As result Petty gets up the ground more than Tommo did. And Lever, Petty and May swap opponents more often than was the case with Tommo in the team.

But the big difference is Petty was much more offensive than Tommo, much more likely to zone off his man and of most significance much more likely to take intercept marks.ย ย

I suspect they will want to replicate that same system (ie the one with Petty in the team). Tommo might be able to play in a similar fashion to Petty, so he might slot straight in, but i wonder if they might go with Smith.

Where that would leave Tommo i'm not sure, but i have little doubt Petty will come straight back in once he is ready to go, so perhaps they are better to find another role for Thommo anyway.

If they don't go with Tomlinson with Petty injured then I don't know what his role in the team is moving forward. Smith is depth at best.

Smith was on him the whole game from start to finish.

I will always maintain that he is a forward , but what do I know??

It's a bit of a cliche, but Smith doesn't appear to have "footy smarts".ย

Salem, Rivers and lever? say thankyou very much.

Commentators said that Salem was on Cameron until 3 minutes to go in the first, then Smith.

Still defence is a collaborative effort and you have to man up.

Anyway good excuse to watch the qualifying replay.

Smith played on Cameron early.ย
had no idea where he was

Still hoping to see Petty play a cameo up fwd one day just to show how he will smash it there as well.

Maxy made a quip on the podcast that Harry "just" had a corky and should be back for Rd 1. Not sure if he was serious though

I was at the qualifing final he got rear holed in the 1st half Smithy.

Charlie was the only player giving a yelp that night.

ย

Easy on Joel, the Lions entire forward line strategy is to isolate Cameron and put it to his advantage... Smith did ok (would Hibbard, May or Lever have defended better on Charlie?), and we won.

Yes when Charlie Cameron is on fire he can make nearly every AFL defender look a bit silly.ย
