Wow we have 2 injured players on our list. Most teams have more.

We have more.  Gawn,  McDonald, Turner, Smith and Howes that we know about.

Queries over Melksham, Rosman and Daw according to other posters.

So it gives viney a go at being captain. I reckon he will love that & step up leading the way.

Do they move someone up to vice under Jack?

With the bye coming up best case scenario is two games missed by Max which will give him time to get over his other ailments where ordinarily he would have played through them. Weid back in will allow for sharing of the ruck duties with Dogga.

That's surely over-optimistic.  And 9 days is hardly a bye.   At least the rest of his body will get a rest.

Clearly it’s time for some “Majak”

He was in good form at Casey and I think was brought in for this situation as ruck cover.

Why not give him the chance? Perhaps he’ll surprise a few and be a great story.

Has played one game in last 4 and is obviously injured. Won’t be Majak.

Unfortunately we have left ourselves very thin on ruck depth and it was always a risk.

We will have to get inventive and probably use Weid and Tomlinson to help LJ in the ruck. You never know, it will make us less predictable.

Correct and many will not agree but J Smith would be in my best 22

We probably don't need a new game plan because our current one is almost fireproof .What we need do is re-start playing to this game plan and rid ourselves of the stop/start footy which has slowly but perceptibly crept in as the season has progressed.

Now is the time for the Coaches to all work together and devise a new Game Plan.

we either lie down or fight through this

I'd like to see us being innovative, like two off the back of the square instead of running wingmen. Maybe Oliver, Viney and Trac could  form a human triangle on one side of the centre bounce while Jackson grabs the ball out of the ruck in a somersault takes a couple of bounces to 50 and kicks it to another human triangle in the goal square.

We need to put a win on the board. I couldn't give a continental about who we,  including May and Viney, have to kill to get it on the ladder. The win will make all the difference.

As much as I love Max I think this in an opportunity. It was alluded to by someone from the Sydney camp before the game last week that they were setting their midfield up to shark Gawns taps. In effect assuming they would lose the tap and instead just clamp down on our mids, this seemed to play out at times with the limited room and space we had at stoppages. Add an extra around the ball which the oppo has done of late and it adds up the handball merry go round leading to a turnover we’ve been doing a lot of lately.

Perhaps now our mids can be the hunters rather than hunted and we can freshen up our approach to stoppages.

We will win at least 5 of the last 9 and make top 4.  The finals will be wide open from there.

In the top 4 will most likely be Freo, Lions and Cats.  Happy to play any of them anywhere.  In fact happy to play any team, anywhere.

Still think Dees and Lions in the GF!

You are way more confident than me LH.

Daw is a training partner for Max and our other Ruckmen. He is lucky to be alive. I would be staggered if his body could play in the Senior Side again

And that is putting it mildly. He is a tap ruckman at VFL level and spends most of his time standing around like he is completely immobilized.

Didn't lollie blues use Silvagni as a ruckman? Just stop the oppo ruckman from delivering and marking.

Maybe height doesn't matter as much if the game plan is adjusted to revolve around mobile contesters in the ruck. Perhaps tell dogga to play small and become a proper midfielder. Weid can also play mobile. Time to change the plan.

Don’t change the plan spice it up a bit be more daring and utilise quicker ball movement. Target two of their players and see how they cope being battered every time they touch the ball. Follow JVs example, protect your teammates block shepherd hurt the opposition legally. Let’s see what happens, if they don’t step up rotate them out.!!!

Choo Choo Train!!

How about we all back of a bit on Weiderman, some big blokes smash packs some don’t

Weve got to back him in & hope like he’ll repay the faith
Anxiety is a real thing to deal with & hope he can overcome it & play some good footy for us

I like the idea, but maggots like giving Lots of FC'S against us, and they intentially just wait for the opportunities to pop up..

I know you're not new to footy, so I'm sure I don't need to run you through why changing game plans halfway through a season is a bad idea, even more so purely because you have one injury that might impact for as little as 4 games.

We don't need to devise a different way to play, we need to stick to what we know and be better at it.

"Just be us". Remember that? Got us a flag last year, which you have been banging on about for ages and then forget after 3 weeks and go back to ranting.

You obviously don't watch much VFL footy

Yeh nah.

Every year is different and it's clear the top teams have studied us to a T which is why this year we have a poor record against them,

Top teams have adapted, we seemingly haven't. Now's the time.

It's not about complete game plan changes obviously but it is about tinkering and changing things up positionally, perhaps trialling some players from the VFL through different positions.

Yeah nah, "tinkering" might happen, sure, but you don't completely change the game plan now.

Farcical suggestion.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
