Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

2022 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch

Bravo Demonstone!

Worth noting that the Lions will likely trade out their first rd pick to match a high bid on Ashcroft, and depending on how Alwyn Davey’s boys go next year, Bombers will almost certainly be trading out their 2nd & possibly even their first.

It went largely unnoticed, but we were very shrewd in trading out our 3rd & 4th rounders for 2022 equivalents to bank some picks as trade capital for next year.

We’re well positioned to rinse, repeat & trade back into the first round next year. Looks a good crop if Jed Hagan and Adam D’Aloia can’t crack the above lists. Also worth noting one of the top tall prospects, Alex Condon from WA has chosen basketball over AFL (a reverse Jackson?).

22 in 2022: A look ahead to next year’s top prospects

6/7 talls in the first 22. Lots more than this year but considering it’s being called the draft of giants I was thinking there would  be more.
Does anybody know if there’s is thought to be much depth in this draft or if there’s more talls going to be available in the second round?

The experts are saying that next year’s draft will be a good one for key position talks and ruckmen.

There are a few in the frame for top ten status including Jackson Broadbent, a 202cm big man from Peel Thunder.

AFL draft 2022: Son of gun, Next Generation Academy talents, Dean Cox-like ruck make WA under-18s summer squad

"Jackson gets around the ground, racks up possessions and uses the ball really well, a bit like a Dean Cox."

There’s a 200cm prospect in Will Elliott from the Oakleigh Chargers who is also a goal kicking forward while there are a few prospects in South Australia. Harry Lemmey is a 199cm 93kg key-forward from West Adelaide where they’re breeding some real talls. There’s Harry Barnett at 202cm, 93kg and … wait for it … Tom Scully, a bit thinner at 202cm, 83kg and both of them are goal kickers who stretch opposition defenders.

And those changes to the NGA rules appear certain to see history repeated, this time robbing the Crows of potential ruck/forward Isaac Keeler of North Adelaide -

AFL’s changes to Next Generation Academy draft rules could see Adelaide miss out on ruck prospect

“The impact of an AFL draft change will be laid bare to Adelaide next year if it loses access to a promising prospect considered one of SA’s top 2022 talents.

“North Adelaide forward/ruckman Isaac Keeler is viewed as a chance to be taken in the opening two rounds and is in the Crows’ Next Generation Academy, but he will be up for grabs inside the first 40 selections.”

We'll trade up :mahoney:

With a strong list it’s almost certain that there will be players of AFL standard who will be clamouring to get games and who can’t and this could lead to some trades of necessity for players and clubs. This would help us when the time comes to do some trading.

This is going to be a year in which I’ll be fully invested in the draft. It’s the age group of my oldest grandson who was a teammate of leading draft prospect Harry Sheezel - they played over 100 games of junior footy together plus school games over almost ten years. He has also played directly against one of the hot tips to go #1 in George Wardlaw who could become a superstar of the competition.

Harry is a clever, elusive player with all of the skills including the ability to kick those special goals. This year, he played as a forward for the Sandringham Dragons Under 19s and the Vic Metro Under 17s but he’s also good enough to play in the midfield. If he goes there this season, he’ll team up at the Dragons with another potential #1 in Will Ashcroft who has been playing for Brighton Grammar.  Ben Hempel from Mordialloc-Braeside is another promising player from their competition who will feature in draft discussion. He was also a 2021 bottom ager who played for the Dragons Under 19s.

There’s been very little discussion on the net and social media about future prospects of late which, will change this weekend with the start of the 2022 NAB Boys League. It would appear that the Oakleigh Chargers are going to be one of the teams to beat again. They have been strong in recent seasons and have consistently provided high draft picks. This year, they have two of the most highly rated midfield prospects in Elijah Tsatas and George Wardlaw in their ranks. Their neighbours from Sandringham are also expected to be up there again.

Here are previews for the Oakleigh Chargers and the Sandringham Dragons from Aussie Rules Central - 2022 NAB League season preview: Oakleigh Chargers and 2022 NAB League season preview: Sandringham Dragons.

One reason why there’s less discussion is that I believe Knightmare is no longer on ESPN’s books and is keeping a low profile this year.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
