Just came across this video. I do feel for him, but I will admit that watching it makes me feel even better. All the things he’s saying were the same stuff I was saying for years. Seeing a team win a premiership is like seeing your best friend kiss the guy you like. You give the thumbs up, but deep down you’re thinking “why not me?”

    St Kilda supporters all tell the same story of woe. 
    At a BBQ,  a colleague started to outline it. My brother in law came over a month later and picked it up where the colleague left off. 
    At the following year’s Father/Son camp another Sainter continued where my brother in law had stopped. 
    None of them know each other, but the same sad narrative morphed

    One of my biggest fears towards the end of the year is that we’d do a stkilda and blow it 

    whilst the saints talk about a drought unlike us  until this year, over the past 25 years they’ve had probably at least 4 golden chances to break their drought - realistically this year was our only golden chance and thank [censored] we actually took it !

    Was good though.
    The envy was strong.

    They had a draw in 2010 and had great chance in 2009 were they kicked 9 goals 14 points losing to Geelong 12 goals 8 points, 1997 bad kicking again was their downfall and 1971 where they were 20 points infront at 3/4 time and lost by 7 after Hawthorn kicked 7 goals in the last quarter with Bob Keddie kicking 4 goals.

    Their only premiership was in 1966 by 1 point

    Not going to dwell on misfortune of others. Except Carlton-Essendon/Richmond/Geelong/ Hawthorn. 
     

    Incredibly hard to win but four clubs this century already done “three - peats”. Let’s take it from here and capitalise on our strengths and profile

    I'm still spewing for the Saint the ball  bounced the wrong way for Milne. 

    But in a way it destroyed Collingwood. They went on to win after the draw and got rid of their premiership coach who the players (brat pack) loved. They have gone downhill since.

    I hope the Saints bounce back, just not during our dynasty.

    They had a great coach, but they seem to get rid of good coaches in favour of former players. Stupid really

    They have been unlucky the Saints, have had some absolute champions walk through there doors but little nothing to show for it.

    And to think their only flag they won by a point.

    For years I used the think that about Footscray. 2 grand finals. One win, one loss that’s that. 96 years and never finished first. Their only premiership was in 1954, before cups were introduced and no tv, so limited footage available. 

    Now they have 4 grand finals and two wins. Still sad effort for a team that’s been here since 1925.

    Technically, only Brisbane and Hawthorn were three-peats as the other two (Geelong and Richmond) didn't win their three in consecutive years.

    And we all know that "technically correct" is the best kind of correct.   :D

    As for Melbourne, let's aim higher and go for the "fourplay".  Who knows what that might lead to?

    You can hear the grief in his voice. He’s guttered. 
     

    After our premiership dynasty is over, I’d love for the Saints to win one… then Carlton will be the club with the longest premiership drought. I know a few Carlton fans that deserve to have that mantle and I’m just the person to remind them of that anytime we talk footy, haha. Payback!

    He is gutted by the Saints missing out on Petracca but I didn’t know that they picked Billings the pick ahead of Bontempelli. That’s definitely (old) Melbournesque.

    The last St Kilda coach that played for the club was Grant Thomas some 15 years ago now.. since then, none of Ross Lyon, Scott Watters, Alan Richardson or Brett Ratten are former players...

    Even back in 2001, Thomas took over because Malcolm Blight was more interested in playing golf than coaching...

    What a great video. Fantastic, we are no longer compared to that Rabble. 
    Seeing Rod Butters Coked off his box a few years ago in my local Supermarket, summed them up beautifully. 
    All those consecutive losses against them, are now inconsequential.

    That said Ratts is a good Coach, will they win one soon?

    I just want to say thank you so much @Cassiew for finding and sharing this gem. This puts it all into perspective, and I’ve actually spent time in the past contemplating exactly this opposite world - what if St Kilda won one before us. I’d feel exactly like Jakey here. 
     

    Ultimately we’re all just supporters with more in common than we have differences.

    Prior to 2 weeks ago I couldn't have cared less about other teams breaking droughts, now I have nothing but empathy for Sainters fans. I hope they can win won in the next 10 years... 😜

    Yes 1 from 1 in the last 20 years is unbelievable.

    Also the usual narrative is that a team needs to fail a few Prelim's or a few previous finals series failures first to harden up or understand what it takes to succeed. Roos in the 90's, as an example.

    Dees effort in 2021 even more impressive. Saints had it in 2010 but no chances since , and when other teams supporters see the 2021 PF and GF master classes, many will wonder how on earth their own team is up to it for the next few seasons. (excl. probably Power, Dogs and Lions fans maybe)

      Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.

      It’s game day and the Demons are chasing a fourth straight win as we take on the high flying Hawks at the G. After decades of being tormented by the Hawks the Dees will be keen to extend their 7 year dominance over Hawthorn.

    • NON-MFC: Round 09

      Round 9 kicks off out west with the Dockers hosting a Collingwood side resting several stars. Fremantle need to make a statement on their home deck after some disappointing form on the road, while the Magpies will be keen to maintain their Top 2 position. Friday night sees a must-win clash between two sides desperate to stay in touch with the eight. St Kilda have shown glimpses while Carlton are clinging to relevance after a flat start to the season. Saturday’s twilight game at Marvel pits the Bombers against a struggling Sydney outfit. Essendon can’t afford another close match against a lower-ranked side, while the Swans risk sliding down the ladder even further. Up in Darwin, the fourth-placed Suns will look to extend their stay in the top four. The Bulldogs have hit their stride with three big wins on the trot and will be very keen to consolidate on their momentum. The always fiery Showdown looms as pivotal for both clubs. Adelaide are eyeing a spot in the Top 4 with a win, while Port Adelaide’s season could slip away if they drop another game and fall further behind the pack. Sunday begins with a yawn fest between Richmond and West Coast. The Tigers need to bank the points to stay clear of the bottom two, while the Eagles are still chasing their first win of the year. The Giants face one of the league’s toughest road trips as they travel to GMHBA Stadium to face the Cats. With GWS at risk of a third straight loss, Geelong will be eager to consolidate their position inside the eight and start their climb up the ladder. The round wraps up with the top-of-the-table Lions heading to Ninja Stadium to take on the second-last Roos.
