At least its no shock - we expected it. Even better it will be a shoot out between WCE and Freo. The WCE pick 2 which will be pick 3 after the Lions F/S look enticing. Gives us a go at Cadman which with JvR and Fritter will set up the future of our Forward line.

With the extra pick on top of the WCE PICK 2 we can recruit or trade for a decent back up to Gawney.

I must be the only person on here that isn't that fussed with Jackson leaving, especially now that both WA clubs are in play for his services. The down side is we look like blowing salary cap and draft capital on Grundy.

If you ask any neutral supporter, they fail to see the hype on Jackson. He's in his 3rd year, and I doubt that he finishes top 12 in the BnF. He struggles to take a contested mark, and hasn't shown any forward craft. His strength is his ability at ground level for a tall, but that's why you have midfielders. And he could develop into an exceptional tap ruckman. But a ruckman who can't take contested marks around the ground like Max, aren't worth big dollars.

As for his decision for returning home, I fully understand it from what I was told. I'm sure some of the Perth media know the reasons, but due to their personal nature, I doubt that they'll come out.

We forget that young footballers like Jackson are overgrown kids but with immature minds. Families and mates are important to them. Full independence is often delayed. And let’s face it, Perth is a very desirable place to live and it’s small town mentality has attractions over a traffic ridden urban night mare that is Melbourne. I agree. I do wonder about the "go home" players.  It really shows a real lack of maturity and restricts one's need to become an independent adult as a natural progression. It's not like he's joined one of the services at 18 (like many do) and is now serving overseas for 6/12 months with little of no contact (Its better than it used to be).     What happened to young people trying to get away from their family to build their own lives.  (This is not a direct critique of Jackson, but a general view of all those players claiming home sickness).

Very sorry to see LJ go - I think he will be an absolute champion of the game - some may not agree but he is a unique talent

I hope its the right decision for him and I just don't believe its about the dollars. However, I can see some tough times ahead for him if his performances don't live up to the lofty expectations of whichever supporter base he plays for next

I just hope we get fairly compensated and use that compensation wisely - we have seen this season that each year we must improve our list to remain competitive - as it stands right now we are at least one big step backward - I really hope that when the dust settles we all feel like we have made a decent leap forward 

 

Pies can have our pick 34 for Grundy. He’s not worth anything more than that IMHO.
