Officially gone with this news.

Even if nothing eventuates from this meeting the fact that we met pretty much means he's gone.

Gone to who and for what ?

Ever heard of having a plan B ?

I hope the club comes up with a better suited alternative to Grundy. At his best he’s been a bloody good player and probably still has a lot of good football in him but neither Grundy or Max are good enough as forwards to make that combination work for us in my opinion.

At the moment, Grundy's contract is an albatross around Collingwood's neck.

I am not so generous a man to relieve that suffering without a few certainties; he can recover from his injury, we don't take on more than half his wage, we give very little in draft capital, and it doesn't impact our ability to get a Georgiades/Naughton/ready to go tall forward.

I wonder if the chatter around Geelong is to create some ‘fake’ competition.

No they genuinely need a ruck.

I think the albatross is more likely to be a goose

Noooo Grundy FCS!   A tall contested marking KF should be our biggest priority.

Who knows but we wouldn't be interviewing ruckmen if we thought there was a chance he was staying.

We might if we weren't entirely sure he was staying. ;)

Yes we would it’s called understanding what all our options are to optimise the outcome whether he stays or goes

A meeting with Grundy doesn’t confirm anything at this stage

Have to admit though, pretty hefty plan b if the captain was present.

It's pretty clear Jackson's gone even before we met with Grundy. It's now just a matter of what we can get back for him and what we use that on.

I still don't get it from Freos point of view but I guess they can't pass the opportunity to get high level talent in the door when it presents.

Oh and I'm not keen on Grundy at all. Let Collingwood suffer with that contract stuffing their cap for a few more years.

I’d offer Brodie an 8 year deal

if he refuses, offer 10 years

We got Jackson after tumbling down the ladder and he helped us win a flag. He's now going to leave, seemingly for personal reasons, which I cannot for the life of me understand. However we can now set ourselves up with 2 very high draft picks, some astute drafting and maybe a raid on a tall KPF. Once upon a time all the drama was on the field, now to keep us entertained they've extended the drama to a whole of club experience with player movements used to keep us salivating 12 months of the year. Personally I find the whole thing a bit contrived but hey Jackson for 2 really good forwards and a recruiting coup thrown in....why the hell not!

Sounds like how we  bought our house off market - keep negotiating up until they say yes

Dodgy ankle and a huge contract…..

interesting times

we don't want no hipster wacko who signed out on footy once he got his monster contract

Going after Grundy makes sense as he is a ready made, experienced ruckman to suit our window which is right now. Starting back at a rookie or 23 year old non experienced ruckman would create a weak link.

Also isnt it very odd to meet a player from a rival club just before finals in which we could face off against??

He won't be a free agent though. We will need to trade for him. What are we going to have to give up? One of our first rounders?

2 really good forwards taken with very high picks? I hope you take photo's of the secret Friday morning r23 meeting between Adam Simpson and Dogga in an airport lounge when he arrives "early" for Geelong and we fly up to Brisvegas

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
