Name one (modern day) player who has flourished after leaving Melbourne, as a big name....

Farmer? Nope

Hogan? Nope

Howe? Mebbe

Watts? Don't make me cry

Simmonds? Nope

Nathan Bassett and Fabian Francis. They may not be big names but your whole premise is nonsensical.

My mail is he is leaning towards staying and biggest decision relates around length of contract.

The money is not an issue, he knows he will be well paid and the next contract is the big one

I anticipate a 2 year extension

Hope you're correct, Pennant. You certainly have the runs on the board. Thanks for sharing

Some on here claim mail that is the opposite, usually rehashed from SM, I believe

And that is all it is, too many people believing every bit of garbage that the media want to throw around.

Agree. Media using Jackson trade story as a filler until they can excite themselves over the next Bailey Smith, May, De Goey, Hill/Ryder story comes along

Dusty was gone until he wasn't

I remember Pavlich going to Port until he signed a contract extension in August.

I remember Travis Cloake contract speculation going all year until the end of the season at which point he re-signed with the pies.

The second one annoyed me a lot as the media had fuelled the situation all year. The longer it went the more likely it was that he would go they would say.

When he re-signed Cloake said he never really considered leaving and the media who he built it up all year simply moved onto the next story to speculate on.

My big worry if he goes is that Melbourne will do the honourable thing and respect his wishes then settle for an ok deal.
They REALLY have to scorch Freo on this. Impede them from getting better in the next few years.

Very few footballers manage to play at AFL level.  It's their dream job, they're well paid and they're still not happy because they're not "home", when going home means moving from Australia to Australia.

Right?
I didn’t wanna broach this lest I sound like a bitter, resentful parent who’s separated from her son who lives in Europe. I mean, I am. I just don’t wanna sound like it. 😁

But as you said o_d, they’re living the dream on huge $$$ and still not satisfied. And it’s not like it’s forever; clearly they can relocate once their time at the Club has ended.

We may have been too nice but that is our way.

The old bluff and bluster along the lines of "he's a required player and in the unlikely event he leaves we will be needing a record high trade" is not in our repertoire.

Probably wouldn't work anyway except that it might make the supporters feel better

Brayshaw and high draft picks is the only acceptable outcome from Freo.
We should not be compromised at all, Freo cannot be given a Free Hit over this.
if Jacko leaves IT MUST come at a large cost

Is there any way the contract could coincide with Max retiring and be satisfactory for both

I wouldn’t expect anything in addition to Brayshaw.  In fact, if that was the trade I’d say Freo would prefer to keep Brayshaw.

There’s a lot of speculation on this thread.

I strongly suspect that no one really presently knows what the ultimate decision will be, including the MFC, the media, Jackson himself, his agent, his family and friends, his dog, his cat or his gopher (if he has one).

Interesting to see that we have 76 pages of analysis though. Thus far.

Everyone can beat their chest and demand high draft picks and certain players but the reality is if he chooses Freo we're not going to get the compensation we deserve.

Farmer played 118 games in 6 years for 259 goals at Melbourne.

He played 131 in 6 years for 224 goals for Fremantle.

He was as good for them as he was for us. A remarkable player that you aren't doing justice to

Agree, his Freo career was nothing to be sneezed at.

Jesus we are quick to turn on our own so drastically.

Only just the weekend many were praising his performance as an individual.

Next minute people are pretty much are calling him a [censored] for possibly wanting him to go home to his family. Whilst I would be disappointed if he left I would not begrudge him for going home if that was the case.

No ONE even knows what his current circumstance may be. Even if he is missing his family we shouldn't be so quick judge and put the kid down.

For all we know he may just be struggling with home sickness and potentially that's affected his mental health to some degree.

Disappointing to read on here the so called parents are the ones questioning Jackson's character. Times have changed and just because your kids may have adjusted moving out, some don't adjust as easily.

Mate, have you been smoking too much of the good stuff in Bangkok???

Highly, highly doubtfull Freo will trade Andrew Brayshaw, he's a future captain and many have him as favourite for the brownlow this year. He was pick #2, should've been #1,  and has 90 games under his belt. He's more advanced than Dogga.

Freo have a good ruck already and with Cerra now at Carlton, cannot afford to see another A-grade mid leave. They will certainly not part with him and a high draft pick for Dogga. If anything we would have to give an additional pick if Dogga were to head to Freo and Brayshaw was to come to us. But that's pie in the sky stuff IMO

It's like hearing Freo fans claim their first pick this year and next years 2nd should get it done. Lol!

We all have rose coloured glasses on

Oh plz, Brayshaw is an absolute jet. There's zero chance they'd give him up and you want multiple high picks thrown in too haha 😄

Not at all. LJ is top shelf. The Club want to keep him. Why should we be compromised?

LJ is a proven Finals Player. He changed the GF.

LJ is more advanced as a player than young Brayshaw, who is yet to play a final

You give away Gold too easily

What if Brayshaw said he wanted to go back to Victoria?

He's contracted for a few more years. There's zero chance they'd trade him even if he was keen.

  • Thank You Simon Goodwin

As Demon fans, we’ve ridden a rollercoaster of emotions over the decades; the heartbreaks, the near misses, the wooden spoons, and the endless waiting. But through it all, we clung to hope. And then came Simon Goodwin. Before he ever wore red and blue, he was a champion in his own right. A five-time All-Australian, two-time Best and Fairest, and two-time premiership hero and Captain with Adelaide, Simon Goodwin was always destined to lead. When he transitioned from the field to the coach's box, first as an assistant at Essendon, he began shaping a new legacy.

  • PREVIEW: Western Bulldogs

Long ago and far away, the Melbourne Football Club replaced its coach in difficult circumstances after the team suffered a devastating loss. In the aftermath, I penned the following words: “Then came the politics, the intrigue, the axing, the sound of the football world laughing at a club, the circling of the media vultures, the reinvention of history, the anger, the irony, the pathos, the hurt on the face of the president, the dignified departure of the coach, and the determination of the newly appointed caretaker.” Today, we’re back in the same place although one difference here is that the coach who was terminated this time is Simon Goodwin, the man who four years ago

  • REPORT: West Coast

The Charles Dickens novel, A Tale of Two Cities, opens with, “It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, …”  This phrase highlights many of the significant challenges that humanity encounters in life, ranging from experiencing remarkable highs to living in times of despair. This is a concept that should resonate with all supporters of the Melbourne Football Club this morning as they reflect on its comprehensive 83-point victory over the struggling West Coast Eagles at Marvel Stadium. The outcome proved beyond doubt that they are the worst of clubs and that we are the best of the worst.
