You of all people should not be bagging out others in this thread. Have you forgotten about the absolute twaddle you trotted out earlier in this very thread? You couldn't even adequately explain what you meant. Then complained that you were being picked on.

If Jackson does leave and Cerra is on our list at the end of the 2022 trade period I will bow down to you as King of the world and pledge my life to you.

Cool one mate. I like the bit where you completely make up scenarios I didn't say would happen.

Have a nice night.

He won’t have the press on his back every week. That is a massive consideration

The lure home might be strong though.  Look at Hogan.

Can someone on the social scene match him up with a top shelf GF in Melb if he hasn't got one already 😂

On the last point...

Does his manager point stuff like this out to him though?

Doubt he'd be thinking about all of these aspects.

After many posts of you trying to explain I still don't think anyone has a clue what you meant.

Leave the faceplams alone mate. Try to be a peaceful poster and stop making enemies.

Footy Classified, specifically Hutchy, are convinced he is as good as gone. Didn’t add any credibility to the opinion. Hutchy urging West Coast to be bold and make him walk to the PSD for nothing. Lloydo reckons he won’t leave. The longer this goes on the more of a distraction it’ll be become at finals time.

Hutchy urging West Coast to be bold…for another cheap headline. That bloke really has no moral compass.

That PSD thing is totally bizarre. We paid PICK 2 for the guy 3 years ago! We’ve developed him with the best modern ruckman in the game, had him play in a premiership, given him a great environment with the Brayshaw’s and his teammates, the club deserves compensation if he leaves. I doubt Luke would want what Hutchy describes that for Melbourne, he’s given us a lot and we have given him a lot. I’d be shocked if he wanted to leave, but if he does there’s no way he’s screwing the club that has been so good to him out of a pick or player in trade. Hutchy talks total rubbish.

I hope Luke stays, I think staying at least another two years makes the most sense.

Your first mistake was getting sucked in by Hutchy.

He's nothing but a giant troll who deliberately goes out of his way to bait a headline.

Ask what Paul Salmon what he thinks of hutchy...

Does heading off to play for West Coast for big bucks constitute being bold?

I would have thought it was the other way round. Taking a long term approach with your career and staying at your first club for a lesser remuneration for the sake of team success down the track and greater rewards financially and personally later on is being bold in my view.

Anyone know the Canberra Times' strike rate?

This is in the Canberra Times, article published this afternoon:

"In more good news for the AFL premier, grand final hero Luke Jackson will sign a new deal with Melbourne soon. Jackson, who is contracted until the end of next season, will commit long-term to the Demons.

The West Australian believes his future is in Melbourne and he will be joined by his parents in Victoria."

All true from what I've heard.

His folks have been shopping for property in Melbourne, and "long term" is the phrase being used about his extension.

Any updates on this juicy goss LN?

The one thing with Hutchy is that he has pretty good contacts around the footy world. It is well known in the industry that he gets half his stories from Liam Pickering. Being a player manager I wonder if Pickering any inside info?

Just as an aside, Pickering manages Karl Amon.

Dogga strikes me as someone who is too far principled to play those sorts of games, and in any event, why would he want to 'walk' to North, which is where he'd end up based on today's ladder positions.

Lloyd was the only sensible voice on that show re: this issue and sees it from a champion players perspective.

Its a distraction to Dees fans, as was Hogan, but after the Hogan saga, I'm immmune now to this and what will be will be.

Hogan was a 'great hope' for the club.

Now we have a team full of them, not to mention the top shelf coaching panel.

In terms of the once in a generation sweet spot we have (under 30ish)...

Oliver, Trac, Viney, lever, salem, Fritsch, Sparrow, Brayshaw, Petty, Pickett, Spargo, ANB, Langdon  etc.

Plus the young latent talent pool yet to break into the side.

Plus Goodwin, Yze....

Good luck to Jacko no matter what he does.

I hate to lose him and watch him develop into an superstar over west.
But given that how late it is in the season and he still hasn’t signed on I’m starting to come to terms with the fact that him leaving is a strong possibility.
What are peoples thought on how we should try to recruit with the bounty we would have to get if he leaves?

Do we go to the draft with highest pick we can get? This years draft is meant to be full of talls but they can take a few years to develop and we just picked JVR.

Or do we try and pick up a established player that could help us win another flag in this premiership window?

Carlton have Curnow, McKay & De Konig all out of contract next year, if we lose Jacko, I’d be trying very to shake one of those loose with that money.  At that point we could offer the dollars and success.

Carlton could be stretched with the dollars. McKay & Curnow will be RFAs.

McKay and Curnow will be Restricted Free Agents next year so there would be no need to trade.

However, they both seem very committed and passionate coming into a finals then premiership window, playing with mates so not sure why they would leave to join a similarly positioned club.  Money unlikely to be a motivator.

As we  like to think of our players in that way and to forfeit some $, I would be surprised if McKay and Curnow don't feel the same.

Would love a crack at one of those but there would need to be some serious low balling from Carlton to get a look in there. Plenty of time till then though and things can change.

You’re right Dazzle, listening to anything Hutchy says is a bad idea. I certainly don’t believe it, I was just commenting on how bizarre his choice of scuttlebutt is in this instance. It’s very easy to make believable “Jackson is leaving stories” with this dragging out so long, but going straight to “walk to PSD” is really incredibly stupid, even by Hutchy’s low standards.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team.
