Freos most realistic offer for LJ would be the 2022 and 2023 first rounders plus Rory Lobb inc 40% of his salary. Most likely being 2 picks in 14-18.

Feels a bit short of the mark. But gives us what we need right now plus time to scout for a new ruck beyond Gawn.

Why would Melb accept that?

I agree Hayden Young would be have been a great trade option, but yes re-signed for 5 years recently. His kicking skills are fantastic !

This potential Jackson trade talk has got me thinking. As good as Jackson and Pickett have been and no doubt will be, would we have been better off drafting Hayden Young and Caleb Serong in that 2019 draft. two highly rated VIC kids ( no game home factor).

Currently they are  both looking like young stars of the competition !

Did you by any chance watch the 2021 Finals Series!

Because we won't have a choice in the matter.

If Jackson nominates Freo as his club of choice, he will end up there and we take what we're given. What's the alternative?

if he walks to the draft there is a lot of clubs before freo's pick. some loaded with lotsa cap space

I don't think it's that simple, the vast majority of the time the team losing a player does tend to get fairly well compensated based on market value for a player.

Carlton are really the only team that seems to weaponise the pre-season draft, and i think this is going to really come back and bite them

WCE are a far greater concern in this situation than Freo.

Makes sense.

They have the money and the need.

Freo have enty of good players who will need a  pay rise and in Darcy they have a future out and out star.

But if he goes to WC he can expect a minimum of 5 years playing for a rubbish team.

To have any chance of being a flag contender in the next 6 or so years, WC will have to turnover the sort of number of players we did in the 2-3 years post roos coming on board.

The smart play would be sign with us for 3 years and rhe go home and ay for the Eagles as they start coming good and as nic nat looks to retire.

The Freo rumours are a bit strange if they are true, with us he's obviously earmarked to take over from Max, but at Freo Darcy is still likely to be playing for another 8-10 years, so it's a lot of money to spend for a backup ruckman, granted his talent.

to me it makes more sense for West Coast who'd see him as a number 1 ruckman much sooner

No, that is not happening, I am in the camp that thinks Jackson will stay. That he hasn't come to terms with a new contract yet doesn't bother me at all.

The main problem is that simply he is not a good mark .He has not been a one grab mark ever since he came into the side and his marking is not improving with the gaining of experience,His signature grab is the two bite mark often following a one handed attempt .if you are not a clean mark you will not make it as a key forward .

He's shown enough times now that he can take a very good mark, one grab too...

Dazzle, it's a good move.

I wonder if we'll see it now that Max is out and we need a taller deep target.

There are a few decent PF and Ruck prospects in the June power rankings for the upcoming draft some of them even from WA.

I would expect the Eagles to split their 1st pick and grab a few top end talent to start their rebuild while they have some leaders in the place. Would be silly of them to go after LJ.

I think we will probably get an answer in the next week.

Pure guess on my behalf.

He's home in Perth for the week and will have discussions with management and family.

If he's staying the new contract will be announced next week.

If we hear nothing then it's a pretty good chance he's gone.

Well, Mr Jackson - the next 4 weeks or so gives YOU the enormous opportunity of laying claim to your real worth, hopefully at Melbourne.

IF you can, without the onfield help of mentor Max, help is to get through the next month of footy relatively unscathed, then you may be worth millions.

I don’t see it at selfish, on the flip side if he is going does the club have their own target in mind.

Dogga, now that he is not a support ruck will have tremendous  pressure to perform and we will see if he is the real deal or not. As I said before, he’s been towed along nicely in Max’s slipstream all his career so far. Let’s see how he stands up. I hope he succeeds  but he would also have to improve on his output so far this season.

I just can’t see Gus leaving to be honest, he and his family are so invested in the club, he’s one of our leaders, does a lot of media for MFC including the podcast. His parents take in our next draftees every year.

If he leaves it will be a massive shock.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
