I would pay Darcy Moore more to stay at Collingwood. It's like watching Mark Jackson playing in the backline. Lever , good comparison plus GF experience too. That said, Luke is not going to go anywhere at least for two years, and I would give him three.WC is a basket case and Freo will not make the eight.

Freo are borderline for the eight this year, but are well placed to go places in the not too distant future. There’s a decent cluster of young talent on that list, so they aren’t without appeal for a talented West Australian looking to go home.

Melbourne CEO Gary Pert has “no doubt” that Demons duo Angus Brayshaw and Luke Jackson will re-commit to the club for the long term.

“You talk about Luke Jackson – right at the moment we don’t know what he’s capable of because he just gets better and better.

“Angus Brayshaw is playing some of the best footy he’s ever played and he’s a superstar.

“I have no doubt these two players will be playing for us for a long period of time.”

For anyone hung up about big $$$ offers from other clubs, Pert said:  “If you look at the last (year) and our really core group of players that have signed long-term deals, there is no doubt they have taken contracts (lower) to keep the group together and I admire them for it...

As an aside he also said a new contract for Goodwin is imminent.

Not a contract discussion, but has anyone noticed Jacko is really starting to clunk his marks around the ground?

First time I've really noticed him taking a few intercept marks down back ala Max Gawn style.

He’s getting better but he’s still got another level with his marking. The main improvement has been his timing is now consistently good. If he can improve his hands/catching, he’ll be unstoppable.

I take any predictions from Gary Pert with a grain of salt.

He was the CEO when our banged up 2018 team had a crappy pre-season and subsequent crappy 2019 season - any mention of concern from him or the board at the time? Nuh. All to suck in new members on the positive 2018 finals campaign.

CEOs generally don’t come out after the club makes a prelim and say - we’re in trouble, lots of injuries, you’re in for long season

what exactly should he have said? No one knew how bad 2019 would be

Really? I'd say he would be extremely foolish to make statements like this unless he was very confident he was on the money

I am particularly encouraged by the comment that recent signings have taken slightly less to keep the team together - that is exactly what we need to see happen across the board

Yep. Did he play down back a bit more last night? The role Gawny normally drops back into?

"Welcome to SEN Perty before he 2019 season, great to have you, how do you think the team will go this year on the field and how will that help the club off the field?"

Good question, first of all while we had a great 2018 season we were really disappointed with the Prelim loss, I know Goody has burnt that tape hahaha... anyway our expectations of this season are very low, we had a heap of guys limp to the finish line last season and a heap of players go in for surgery really late in the preseason.. don't get me started on the plonker we have as our Dr I know Goody is going to have a sharp word with him hahahha... anyway based on that we're stuffed and will barely make the 8... as to how that translates to off field, we're really chasing lots of sponsors to pay us big dollars and want heaps of new members to make sure we stay profitable... go dees!"

The Demons are now a well-oiled machine. Not a lot of benefit in finding squeaks from three years ago.

Seems to float back a bit more then usual. At one stage I saw him sprint from the 50m arc into deep defence and took a great intercept mark.

Gains leadership and coaching is catching on it seems on young Jacko.

I don't think this is a "prediction". I think this is some inside knowledge.

Also I don't think contract discussions are the same as CEO's predicting a bad season. How would he know how we would go in 2019?  No one else did apparently.

It appears you have just taken an opportunity to bag the CEO.

There was an awful ( overwhelming ) lot of D/L ers say 40% who failed in my opinion to respect Pertie and his record  at the Pies. Let's be fair he was CEO there when 2010 Flag occurred.  He was not responsible for the Salarygate which ruined some including Ned Guy and partly Eddie plus their Recruiting and Football Depts. and Buckley was shameful in that charade.

Gary Seemed to overestimate the amount of Merch/ Memorabilia that  was wasted in 2010/11 after their Flag as a major criticism for lack of anything else. Working with Eddie you would always be 2nd or 3rd banana no matter which job you did. Gary drove and oversaw great membership growth and club development during his time.

He Has made a very good 4 years go without an apparent and major public event ( presidential and football Department inc.the Review efforts have been outstanding.)

And our subsequent Flag  has made us millions. He has started our 4 year plan with results and Sunday could be another target accomplished. Our financial situation is the envy of more than half the Clubs in the AFL considering where we have come from.

As many will say about our Training plan being developed we need our Admin and Social and supporter meeting place all in one developed.  That is the prime Kate Roffey responsibility along with Gary and is a State Govt development in progress it appears.

Yes it is easy when you stretch wins in 9 and 11 continuously with  the prospect of more like that in the offing.

Time  for some good vibes from the doubters if they can eat humble(  pie ) which is what they are sort of mixed up about being in this equation. Move on credit where credit is due. Also the Board and previous others  are included in the overall appreciation society at present.

We are  so lucky our ducks are all in a row and are healthy and producing many beautiful ducklings in our footy life today.
Long May it continue.

It’s like Jazz. If I have to explain it - you’ll never get it.
