No I haven't. I finished my post mentioning how unique Jackson is as a player. What player are you suggesting we could trade in that could do the things he does?

We don't automatically win anything. We have a top 10 pick playing tonight who is probably lucky to still be on our list.

Perhaps go and watch the grand final again and tell me how we would have gone with 2 18 year old kids playing instead of Jackson.

    I don’t see Luke going anywhere else for a while. Just like Hogan he would have to see something at a WA club to jump off and neither team is particularly good right now. Remember we were still struggling when Hogan left but for Jackson we are all success!

    If a hypothetical came up where he left and we were given two top 10 picks in exchange, I'd be more than comfortable that we'd be able to cover the loss of Luke. Whatever we decided to do with those picks.

    It's a win/win because he'd be leaving at the height of his hype and we'd paid handsomely for it.

    I think you're just missing the entire point cobba so let's leave it.

    I think I'm the 705th post and about 700 of those (including this one) contain absolutely no useful information on this topic. Just thought I'd state that I, like everyone else, have no inside information on this and will await the final announcement in due course. Yes, the Club should work to sign Jackson (duh) and yes (duh) LJ should do whatever he and his manager think are in his best interests (maybe a 2-year contract extension would make sense at this stage, just in case Melbourne's form unespectedly falls off a cliff).

    Well I guess that's true in the sense they won the 2014 & 2015 Premierships without him and the Swans haven't won a Premiership with him, but I think it's a lot more nuanced than that. You have to look at the effect on salary caps, impact on retaining/losing other key players, marketing the Club (much more important for Sydney rather than Hawthorn) ...

    Let's not overstate how good Hawthorn have been in recent times. They were good up until 2016, went out of the Finals in straight sets in 2018, and were ordinary in 2017 & 2019-21. We are not the Hawks of 2013-15 yet but are on the way, with or without LJ (and we definitely have him for this year at least!).

    I think you're missing the following points:

    - Draft picks are not guaranteed to succeed
    - Jackson is a completely unique player
    - Bringing in two 18 year olds to fill the gap left by Jackson does not suit our list demographic. Our window is now.

    But alright digger, let's leave it.

    Look obviously I'd love Luke to stay & I hope he does & realises that he is part of a good team but is he worth 1 mill yet. I don't think so. I know other clubs will probably throw that at him.

    I just wouldn't want to lose a quality player like a Brayshaw because we'd had to pay a lot to keep Jackson.

    Surely it's a given that the Club and every Dees supporter would prefer to keep Dogga if possible. He loves the group and we've had some good re-signings over the last 12-18 months

    It's also a given that if Dogga did decide a move to another club we would do the very best we could to maximise our reward from any deal. Of late we have an excellent track record of recruiting/drafting the right players for our list.

    Does anyone not have confidence in our FD to achieve one of these outcomes?

    At the moment, to me this is all that matters

    Listening to the Yze podcast it sounds like Jackson isn't going anywhere. 

    Albeit he didn't mention contracts but he talked quite a bit about his role going forward and supporting Max.  No hesitation or qualifiers at all in that conversation.

    Also includes a suggestion that the length of contracts may shorten 

    That headline could promote a few contracts being completed sooner, rather than later.

    I just listened to the podcast, and I don't think you could draw any conclusions based on what Yze said. Where we are at as a club, we will continue to develop a player regardless of whether they are a pending free agent or out of contract.

    Times have changed from the Bailey tanking era and when Roos had pending free agent Frawley playing up forward.

    He has just come off a 2 year deal at around $850k.

    We paid Lever around $800k when he first came over as a 3rd/4th year player so you would have to think that the amount for a 2 year deal for Luke has to be around $800k per year. If that's correct weight it's not hard to see another club mentioning the magical $1M

    I would pay Darcy Moore more to stay at Collingwood. It's like watching Mark Jackson playing in the backline. Lever , good comparison plus GF experience too.That said, Luke is not going to go anywhere at least for two years, and I would give him three.WC is a basket case and Freo will not make the eight.

    Jesse left at the end of 2018 by a mutual agreement situation with the Club really firm on him departing . We were not struggling as the two Finals wins were a great credit to our Club and success looked likely to follow in2019. 

    We had no idea of that year evolving with the surgeries and total overall injury problems. 2020 was a solid year of ground work by the Club which set us up for the substantial achievement of the 2021 Premiership and base for further success. 
     

    Let's not kid ourselves LJ would be hard to replace as he is a once in a 50 year or generational player and while 2 top 10 picks seems good  compensation they would be unlikely to be a ruckman who could make such an immediate impact as Dogga.

    He is clearly rusted on to our team and success, also the Club culture and to Maxy so  2/3 year deal is sensible at his stage of development. 

    I'll be surprised if it's any thing different but it would be nice for a long term deal 

    The club  are getting things spot on and I am confident that this will be another common sense decision.

      Round 7 gets underway in iconic fashion with the traditional ANZAC Day blockbuster.       For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

      The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
