More like too young Smith Dunkley  Bont McRae and Hunter are  still young ish others are 24 plus inc Libba and Treloar who with Bont and Smith  were their best.

I have had a couple of wines or two but Libba is 29, Treloar is 28, Mcrae is 27, Hunter is 26, Bont is 25, Dunks 24 and Smith just a kid

Viney 27,  Harmes 26, Tracca 25, Oliver 24, Sparrow just a kid, who else do we run through the middle?

Now the Dogs are a quality side and I am trying to understand why we won the way we did. I think you can see the difference in the ages.

Libba played like he was 29 and it was a shocker.  Treloar played a good game mainly because he kicked 3 goals. The Dogs midfield was too old when they came up against the Dees.  Add in Jacko at 20 vs English at 24 or Gawn at 29 vs Martin at 34.

Our aged players were mainly down the goal to goal line - BB, TMc, (Gawn)....May (and btw thats why I think we need to use pick 17 for a tall).

Sure you don't want to use it on a mid incase you decide to retire Sparrow next season?

Happened to tune in just as Harmes was bursting through to kick to Fritsch. Good timing!

I watched the game again yesterday . . . do other people still shout at the tele even though the game was six weeks ago and you've watch it 50 times? My neighbours must be fed up.

I tuned in as the Bont put them 19 points up. That's my favourite part to watch it because after that it just gets so good

Total disgrace that the Coach wasn't given his 5mins of glory

But Basil got his 15 minutes. Bit of a fairytale ending for Basil, grand final in Perth & him on stage. But Goody proved to be the bigger man, so all's well.

Leave Basil alone. He had a very busy week.

He was just too exhausted after trying to organise the 1 minute of recognition during the second quarter for all of us that couldn't make it.

A true hero in my eyes.

I hope we return the favour in next year's GF when we stand and clap for the West Aussies that couldn't make it over.

It was.

The Doggies (and Geelong before them) were the Titanic. The Demons were the iceberg...

I bow to your proof of age of the Bullies mid field brigade Jontee. Undoubtedly convincing. I didn't check the ages and thought some from 29 to 25 were a year  or 2 younger.

I didn't think the gap  was as big but also when Jacko Vines Clarry and Trac turned on the power in the third it just blew the Dogs  away even the Bont looked  powerless to stem the tide.

The depth and class of us vs them plus that vital years in age showed fir the last 1.5 quarters of the game. But it should not have been 16 to 1 goals! That's embarrassing and unacceptable no matter how good we were.

Absolutely right. Still furious about that goal. And the behind they snuck in as well. Higher standards demanded for next year's grand final demolition job.

There shall be no rest for most minor transgressions to be re-lived, reviewed,  re-rehearsed, re-visited and recompensed with more practice, practice and practice to absolutely iron-out such unrewarding efforts. We shall achieve a GF demolition job next season as occasional mediocrity is inexcuseable. Such 'misses' are evidence that there was something wrong with our linkages at these moments; someone can always be in a better position, maximising (forgive the pun) the certainty of a 6-pointer. Still, across the game, the effort and earned benefits were pretty damn good!

Please, there’s no need to panic. This is not as bad as it looks. At least, that’s what the medicos will tell Tracc, similar to how they didn’t tell Maysie how bad his hammy tear was. So, rather than “decapitated” let’s say he’s “incapacitated.” Obviously his preseason will look a little different but from all accounts he should be cherry ripe by Rd 1 of season 2022.

I've got a similar problem with Max Gawn. The dog got him and bit half his foot off.

I rescued him and now he's blu tacked to the dashboard of the ute like a hawaiin hula dancer.

On the umpteenth rewatch: last quarter after Treloar got their goal  I found myself muttering, 'We've gotta get that one back.'

30 seconds later, Salem sneaks his sneaky one through.

Just think how special it might be to hear him speak at the G next year....

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
