Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Still, across the game, the effort and earned benefits were pretty damn good!

It wasn't too bad an effort, after all, it was their first grand final in a while ... so they were bound to be a bit rusty.

I've got a similar problem with Max Gawn. The dog got him and bit half his foot off.

Fido's lucky you didn't immediately go out and kick 16 goals to 1 against him in 45 minutes, like the team did after a Dog tried to savage the real Max.

Can't believe people were calling him out for a couple of years there.

I was unfair about him and i was wrong, for about the fifth time.

Absolutely right. Still furious about that goal. And the behind they snuck in as well. Higher standards demanded for next year's grand final demolition job.

I'm furious still about the soft frees Liberatore and McRae got in the middle. Viney gave two away that were nowhere near frees.

Jack was very very good at not buying into his frustration. The quick multiple shakes of head - but steely eyes on Liberatore.

It has been eating me up why Trac didn’t have the ability, effort and tenacity to break free of the Bont tackle and kick a goal from 65m out, with 5 seconds to go in the third quarter.

should keep him hungry to come back bigger, better and stronger next year!     :) :)

Overall the umpiring was more consistent and less diabolical that your average home and away game. I'm just glad it wasn't a love-in like the Dogs have had so many times over recent years.

I heard a joke about that supposed near-punch on in a Perth nightclub (which is probably complete bullsmit but anyway). Apparently the Dogs heard the umpires were in the nightclub too, so challenged the Demons to a fight. But when they learned the umps weren't there after all, they backed down. (Well I thought it was funny.)

(And why would they want to fight the Demons with Viney on our side and Weightman on theirs? It's like playing two men short. Before the first punch was thrown, Weightman would be rolling on the ground screaming that he's been shot.)

Actually I thought Petracca was kicking it to Brown probably. 4 goals in 47secs would have been REALLY something.

Guess we will have to settle with 3 in 47 seconds.

would love to see a top 10 “one minute of finals footy” to know how it compares to anything else.

Can't compare the timing his 2 you are referring to are near the end and are clear arm chops

The  swing of his body and holding after he missed the ball was legit but perhaps the one earlier that quarter ( 3rd) for holding was not BUT the umps have been paying SOFT holding and pushing and interfering frees all year so no different.
The Hannan free late in the 3rd also was crap.
Overall umpiring had little or no effect on the outcome.

I was at the game and was ok with Umps.

Kudos for this fantasy scenario - a great start to the day as a read.. Its hilarious and possibly COULD be true in another universe.

You can hear the doggies now..."...you take Viney - ..... No YOU take him, I'll take ........"

And there was Kozzie being tackled high about 20 m from goal and a few uncalled throws.

But I will say the unlike last time we met or worse the lions / dogs final or even worse when the dogs played swans in the granny.....the umps imho didnt really impact the game at all.

As it should be.

I have had a couple of wines or two but Libba is 29, Treloar is 28, Mcrae is 27, Hunter is 26, Bont is 25, Dunks 24 and Smith just a kid

Viney 27,  Harmes 26, Tracca 25, Oliver 24, Sparrow just a kid, who else do we run through the middle?

Now the Dogs are a quality side and I am trying to understand why we won the way we did. I think you can see the difference in the ages.

Libba played like he was 29 and it was a shocker.  Treloar played a good game mainly because he kicked 3 goals. The Dogs midfield was too old when they came up against the Dees.  Add in Jacko at 20 vs English at 24 or Gawn at 29 vs Martin at 34.

Our aged players were mainly down the goal to goal line - BB, TMc, (Gawn)....May (and btw thats why I think we need to use pick 17 for a tall).

Not to take anything away from our lads but I think flying to Brisbane....then Adelaide and then Perth must have had some impact upon them. As much as we lifted they looked cooked in the 40 mins.

Yes a tall defender is probably a good idea as Adam t isnt that young either.

I doubt those age gaps made much difference. You are really only talking about Liberatore as a difference.

Most experienced players don't decline until after about 30. In fact since the effects of experience and training are cumulative, they should still be getting better.

Sides like Geelong are a different story.

I guess I never really felt what was truly missing.

I need another fix.

Libba will very soon be a liability for the Dogs to run on the ball.

Have a look at how slow he looked in that last 30 seconds of the 3rd when we were taking the ball away from the bounce. He looked like he was trying to run in a walking frame.

I would have said yes except for the 2 weeks between the prelim and GF was plenty to recover. In that final 40 mins they also had a total of 13 minutes of recovery time between goals and 6 mins at 3/4 time.  They were cooked upstairs but physically they had no excuses.

True, but they did it to themselves by blowing the last few rounds of home and away.

Contrast that to the team who finished on top, became masters of their own destiny  and earned themselves little travel and a stable living/training base.

I forgot about the two weeks.

I did speculate in previous posts that the dogs may have been devastated by that last min of the third as they seemed to offer little fight in the last.

A four goal lead in a gf is not imposdible to chase but the dogs looked somewhat disinterested. Maybe it was sheer shock.

Libba is not slow, but he did go ball hunting and lost defensive position, allowing Petracca et al to get out of the front of the circle.

That wasn't anything to do with speed, in fact he ran pretty hard trying to catch them once they were past, but they were too far gone.

His lack of speed was glaring.

He was slow. Plodding almost.

Have a look again.

They were cooked before three quarter time.

Just watch how insipid and weak they looked when Kozzie stripped them of the ball to fall for Bowser to give to Angus; then when Tracca gave to Clarrie who gave to Sparrow who kicked a 50m+ goal off one step while surrounded by four doggies; then when Jack cleared the ball from the pack to our running ruckman Dogga, all on his own, to give to Clarrie, on his own, with only Daniels who got run down by Jack between Clarrie and the goals. Game over.

They were boiled, poached, fried, baked, roasted, grilled, sauteed - cooked.

BTW so were the catties in the second half of the PF.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
