I would prefer a fit Hunt to Hibbo.

His run and carry off the hbf could be of great benefit in a GF. He is also a long kick and can snag a goal if moved forward.

Hibbo can fumble badly and those left foot sliding kicks often go to the opposition.

Hibbo is probably a better lockdown defender but I would rather Hunt if he is fit. He was very good for us before the injury.

He just offers more than Hibbo.

So Goody plays Hunt for 20 odd games, but Goody aint a fan. Like really?

They're not mutually exclusive ideas. He played Jack Watts a lot too before telling the recruiters to get rid of him.

So yeah, really

I certainly agree with Hunt as the sub, (that is if he his not a surprise selection in the 22), I also think he provides more coverage in more circumstances than Jordon. If a mid does go down we have more than enough to cover, ie. Sparrow, Harmes , Gus, etc.

Hunt can cover for most areas (back, forward, wing) and if it is close later in game is more of a line-breaking impact player than Jordon.

James Jordan will be the sub.

Why change a winning formula now? Why bring in a guy who hasn't played an AFL football game for 6-7 weeks to a role as a sub which he hasn't played all season long?

Most importantly our game (and especially this one) evolves around contested ball and pressure. Jordan provides both of these at a pretty high standard across the ground. He is smarter and more reliable with ball in hand. We can cover for a smaller back or forward going down most likely. But if one of the three starting mids/ engine room guys go down in the middle I'd much rather see JJ at centre bounces more often then Sparrow and Harmes.

I totally get others wanting to bring in more spark off the bench with the run and carry of Hunt. But I just don't see Goodwin risking it. Hunt's ball use has been better this year sure but JJ is so much more reliable.

A month is a long time out especially to come into a grand final. Keep it the same bad luck Hunt. What about Smith coming in to replace a suspect May as the sub? Shaun told me to say that.

JJ got to play a quarter and a half of a final against Geelong (admittedly the game was already over by then) whereas Hunt has never played a final as he missed out in 2018.

I’d love him to start but Med Sub might be even better especially if he start late Q2 or later.

Nobody will catch him

Hunt was very much a part of our winning formula this season, much more than JJ was.

It should really come down to had the better season this year, and that was Hunt by a stretch.

Agree. I'd have Hunt as the sub.

Can cover forward and back. The only issue is if one of our midfielders goes down who will replace him? ANB, Angus/Rivers, Kozzie?

Would be Gus no doubt and then the question might be; JJ to a wing where he has played before or Hunt who has played there before? I'm really warming to Hunt due to pace and experience in other roles.

Apologies if this has been mentioned in another thread, but on 7 News last night, there was an unexplained and unsubstantiated comment which seemed to suggest that Hibberd might not play. I think it was Tom Browne, but there was no explanation as to why that comment was said. Did he mean that Hibberd might be in doubt with injury? Or that Hibberd might just be unlucky and replaced with Hunt? Or was he just making stuff up? Who knows.

Hunt has also played 21 games I think and was a staple and much improved player this year. Had he not been injured he'd likely still be in the side.

But Goodwin isn't a fan

Id rather Hunt than Hibberd!!

I like the idea of what Hunt can bring and potentially being a game changer, but can't see a sub having that much influence. Can't recall a time when subs where a thing that one came on and turned the game. No change for mine

Whilst I'd like to see Jayden in (I know family well) he won't replace Hibbo.

Hibbo did a great job on Rohan and supposedly did a short stint on Jeremy Cameron.

His bigger body (94kg) allows him to play on taller players (IMO).

Just reckon Hibbo could handle Hannan (plays tall), Johannisen or Bailey Smith based on his experience and size.

I think Hibberd is a far better defender than both Hunt and Rivers (for now).  I can't imagine him making way for Jayden with the couple dangerous Doggies small and mid sized forwards.

Plus, historically Hibbo has taken the talented mid who rests forward like a Danger, Dusty etc.  I'm thinking he will do the same with the Bont if he has a break up forward.

The only reason I'd bring Jayden in would be at the expense of Rivers as I think they play a similar role.  I love Rivers and expect him to retain his spot which just makes Jayden another hard luck story.

I agree however of him being the sub.  Very unlucky for JJ by Hunt provides far more flexibility as a player and although May has been training fine from all accounts, my MFCSS is still lurking at the thought of his hamstring popping.

Couldn’t keep up with Johannisen and Smith. Would back him in a contest with them but he would get beaten by them on the spread.

I'm with Red, i'd prefer Hunt to Hibberd, especially minding Weightman, and i'd keep James Jordan as Sub.

I think there is a live possibility of Subs being strategically used in this game so we need someone who can come on and really impact.

I suspect this is the reason Jones wasn't considered for Sub not being so much of an impact player.

They will have run a lot of scenarios through to decide who is the sub.

Ie. If May or Spargo's injuries flare up, what happens

I think JJ is the right man. Hunt is unlucky though
