There will be a time this year when we play both Brown and Weid in the same team and I hope they work well together, I think the make up of what we’re seeing now won’t be what we have going into round 22. When they do play together this will be the time that the club gets around Sam and says the Brown is the now but he’s the future. Ultimately he will want to be playing senior footy week in week out, so if we can’t offer that then I suspect another club will poach him.

I’m really hoping we see him in the next few weeks. I suspect we will. We have invested in Weid and I have little doubt he is set to take a quantum leap in the next year or so.

It would be a huge call to leave the club when it’s on this trajectory, but no player of his calibre wants to be spending too long in the seconds. And money talks.

The club is doing everything right at the moment. Let’s hope the management of Weid isn’t the exception.

I think on the Hotter Than Hell VHS the narrator was stamping his ticket as future star (though I found a lot of what that guy said to be cringey).

Exactly. The plan was Weid and Brown as our two big forwards.

Some people seem to forget we shopped Mcdonald all trade period and there were no takers.

Nobody has forgotten how bad McDonald was last year. Least of all him.
He worked his [censored] off over Summer and has played great footy this year.
Played really well down back last Sunday after Tomlinson went off.
Have some respect. TMac is one of the reasons we are 7-0

The MFC is a competent outfit now.

Weid was in the starting 18 until he was injured prior to the first game of the season. Then, without any reasonable foreseeability, Tommy Mac rediscovered his 2018 form and Weid hasn’t been able to get back into the team in the short term. We’re 7-0.

That said, I’ve no doubt the club is in his ear, and that he is aware that he is in the club’s short, medium and long term plans. I’m also confident he has sufficient maturity and professionalism to understand that the team is flying and there is presently no good reason to change a winning formula. He will get his turn in due course, and the club will want him to be ready to own it when the opportunity presents itself.

In short, I don’t think his horses are restless, nor should they be.

Both playing full-time in the AFL team, in tandem with one another, would be everyone's ideal provided that both displayed that kind of forward craft that was consistently excellent and prominently rewarding for the whole team.

We do have the 'smalls' and the 'not-so-smalls' posted around the hot zones in our progress to - and within - the entire forward roster so, in all likelihood, it could be a fantastic asset where youth and skill abound.

In any case, Carna Dees!

If his good form continues he won't be going anywhere. Weid is very unproven IMO.

Reported Harry McKay out of contract at the Blues. What would he command $ wise?

Could we let Weid go and bring in McKay? Wouldn't that be marvelous?

McKay would command double the contract pay as Weed despite having - prior to 2021 - had an almost identical statistical output

He was another top draft pick and is leading the Coleman at the moment. He’d command more money than Weid, and a first round pick we don’t have.

Tricky situation with Weid at the moment. He’s clearly above VFL level and has already shown he’s up to AFL level as recently as last year. Hard to drop TMac or Brown though when they kick 4 and 3 goals each!

Can't imagine we'll be able to afford a big fish after all the re-signings we've managed.

Weid, although he is probably impatient and wanting to play senior footy, should just keep honing his craft and giving the club a headache every week, his time will come, injuries, form and resting, his time will come and he should want to stay at the MFC long term, at least the next 2 years, its going to be fun.

Saying that, if a club like wanted him and dangled a very nice pick, of course you would look at it.

Depth is wonderful, sadly, when you have depth, it means players sometimes miss out.

So who else are you suggesting might be in the 23 in September?

Jack Viney Obviously

Sam may be the future but NOW is 2021 and right now BBB  and Tmac have the KP posts in hand and it is theirs lose.

With LJ and Gawny in the mix resting some times Bayley no 4 and Kossie  plus Resting  mids and alternate flanker eg Spargs, ANB or Chandler.

Any changes to mids or defence Pates???

There's a reason we went and got Ben Brown. I'm in the let him go camp. Bring in a young forward to fill the position in the long run.

Sam is the young forward for the long run. We've put years of development into him and he's finally starting to fire. Why lose him just to pick up another "young forward" we need to put years of development in to? Yeah, nah.

They’ll move on T Mac at seasons end, they find it difficult to trust him given he’s been [censored] house two years straight, even if he has found form this year

Just 4 days people were saying this kind of nonsense.

Yes Tmac isn't the long-term answer, but if he continues to play like his is for the rest of the year then why would we move him on at seasons end?

Even before the win vs the Swans he has been in great form.

Everyone is crying out for Weed to come in, but right now there just isn't a spot for him.

He will get his chance soon.

How long til Weid is playing full back in the VFL?

won't happen but it's not the dumbest idea. Many fowards have been sent back as part of the education process.

Not sold on Petty and with Smith injured we are light on down there this season.

More realistically I would consider playing Mitch Brown down back just as a little bit of insurance

The irony is that we picked Weid at pick 9 and Carlton picked McKay at pick 10z

We picked Weid at 9 and Big Harry went the pick straight after ?

On some level Sw was a very slow starter and has been very inconsistent at times.

Yes hes talented but Tmac and Bbb are more so and have the runs.

Yes Sw is the future but more so longer.

Tmac and Bbb are the key to this years flag.

Our current problem is that we lack a quality Wingman (Gus and Baker  NQR ) . Baker looked the goods late last year. Gus is a inside mid perhaps he could fill Melksham role as we do not not get enough from. Why do we suggest and play J.Smith in defence ,he is not up to it and perhaps he gets injured so much. Don't know why we gave Viney such a long contract. If the Weid is not getting a game forward perhaps he should be trained to play defence. Neitz was capable of playing both ends of the ground.

Unlike some vying for a spot in our 22, Sam is a key position player and will therefore have to wait until that spot is available, either due to injury or the form of either Tom or Ben. It’s the same reason why he’s unlikely to be named as a medical sub.

I’m pretty much referring to the likelihood of injuries/drops in form forcing potential shifts for players. Jordon’s having a great year, but he might tire in the second half or drop form. BBB I’m not entirely convinced by his first couple of game that he’ll have the longevity for the season. ANB is a role player (and doing a decent job thus far) but he could have another player usurp his spot by seasons end. Melksham continues to get games for not amazing output, the hammer might fall towards the end of the season. The club has a lot of faith in Petty, but who knows if he’ll definitely succeed.

There’s a lot of footy to go.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
