Big difference between the Melbourne Side and Casey. 
The Weid has played many AFL games and not performed. 
he has to be more consistent 

I am sure he knows that. But Ben Brown has been been a consistent AFL performer, who will take a little time to get his Rythm sorted

I want the Weid to stay. But his AFL performance needs to improve in consistency

Exactly. The plan was Weid and Brown as our two big forwards.

Some people seem to forget we shopped Mcdonald all trade period and there were no takers.

If Brown plays poorly for the next game or two we can and should expect him to play at Casey

He said he reminded him of young Warren Tredrea.  I bet Choco cant wait to get Weid into the seniors.

Even with the new rules providing some relief it's really hard to be an unathletic key forward.

We already had 2, and for some reason decided to add a 3rd. 

There's some hope with Tom McDonald recapturing his leap and ability to find space on the lead, but he still can't turn or change direction quickly.

Jackson and Fritsch don't really provide any solutions because Fritsch is still meh defensively (if somewhat improved) and Jackson does his best work up the ground as a forward or in the ruck. More ruck minutes for Jackson = more Gawn forward = another even less mobile tall forward target.

The best combination with Jackson and Fritsch is just 1 genuine tall in a CHF role. That's what Tom's provided and why it has worked well. Can Tom keep it up? Who knows. But he's more likely to do so when given more responsibility in that role than trying to share it. Can Brown do the same job - yes, although he has to embrace doing more dirty work and realise he's not the 60 goal full forward. Can Weid do it? Well, maybe if his tank is at full capacity, and he did it last year before he ran out of juice late.

Brown, Weideman, Jackson, Fritsch. It just isn't going to work. The quicker we stop pretending the better for everyone.

I've maintained all along that Brown will cost us Weid, and maybe that's ok and we just accept it. Brown could be the better player for the next couple of years and Weid could maintain his level of just marginal AFL talent. So it might be the opportunity to actually find a long term replacement.

TBH if it came a choice between Weid and BB, I would go for Weid.

If he doesn't get games, I fear he will be lost to us.

Everyone was excited preseason at the prospect of the BB and the Weid in tandem. they both got injured so those plans were scuppered for the time being but i see no reason why they can't play together yet. A lot of people suddenly doubting BB on the basis of his first game back. He's obviously rusty but he did have the North defenders climbing all over him. The season is long so i'm sure both BB and the Weid will contribute plenty yet. Talk of trading the Weid or BB not making it are very premature.

I'm with you on not playing 3 talls in the forward line. However, I see Jackson as a very tall midfielder who can ruck AND go forward if needs be - so he can be in the same side, but not necessarily as part of 3 talls in the forward line all at the same time. I would like to see more pace/ground-ball pressure, the likes of Bedford/Chandler vying with ANB/Melksham for a spot.

What's the point? 29 year-olds, even good ones, have close to zero trade value. If he maintains his current form throughout the year, we might get a late third round pick for him. He's worth more to us than that.

Making players kick the door down is well and good, but the problem is that Weideman seems to need to prove himself for Casey far more than the Melksham's of this world. It took until round 6 before he could get a game last year despite a string of good games in the 2's. Same thing is happening this year. I wouldn't blame him if he was getting frustrated.

There's a reason clubs value talls so highly - good ones are damn hard to find. Weideman has shown plenty to suggest he'll be a damn good full forward for the next 8 years. Our side will be better with him in it - find a way to get him in. 

Right now Weideman would be better than Brown, but I understand the call.

It's easy to forget that Weideman will start playing his best footy in 2-3 years when he hits 26.

I'd rather lose Brown or McDonald than Weideman.

TMac also has to be considered in this, he probably feels he could give another 2 good years at AFL level at another club, why would he be content playing in the reserves as a back up.

Doubt he was pushed as he resigned at the end of last year but was asked to stay on and they tried to talk him out of leaving.  list-manager-ned-guy-quits

It reads more like he got a bit fed up with the board making key list decisions, in particular Board pressure for Beams' return and pressure to give 7 years to Grundy, two of the main reasons they got into the sal cap mess.

BB played less gametime (around one-third) in the VFL Casey team due to recovery from injury and time-proven resting strategies to ensure a fast heal from that which ailed him.

Alongside this recuperation, the intensity of his game was naturally restricted to prevent a set-back in his AFL preparation. One must expect, under these circumstances in operation at the time, that Brown's contribution was restricted and could not be reasonably compared to that of another forward with so much additional gametime and intent, without a potentially limiting need to take care with a recuperation injury, without a limit placed on joint exertion and dynamics. 

As it is in the present moment, it was time that Weed began producing some form in the VFL team. He has had five years to achieve consistency and improved performance upon which the team and supporters could rely.
