Yes I get that but should a semi finalist meet  Melbourne or Port , Melbourne or Port to my mind are disadvantaged

I'm wondering if a reason for taking the whole list is so that the team can play practice matches in the bye weeks.

Of course, giving the whole list the chance to participate in a finals campaign atmosphere will be invaluable and rewarding for them.

I reckon Burgess will have the team cherry ripe whenever they play. 🤞🙏

Well there goes the dream IF we win the PF.  Did they even discuss a fully vaxxed limited / smallish crowd option at the G i wonder?

That's IF Draconian Dan would even be open to a discussion on the matter.  Highly unlikely.

It’s sad it won’t be here, but this is the news most of us knew was coming

It’s like so many times in life when you know 100% something dreadful is gonna happen. When it eventually does happen it still hurts.
Idk about others here, but until an hour ago I still harboured a little bit of hope. Oh well. I sincerely hope that should we make it to the big one our interstate diehards cheer loud and proud on our behalf. ❤️💙

I look at it differently.  Power will win no matter who they play as will the Dees.

We get a hit out on the gf venue in the prelim. It may be a 1 or 2 % advantage for us in ground familiarity.

Could be good.

Id give the Dogs a big show against the power if they win this week, which I think they will. They only just lost to the power 2 weeks ago after being 3 goals in front with 5 mins to play.

Why is Perth the best to come?

Getting sick of the slaps in the face from the AFL?

Agree.

Port have come into form a the right time, and have most, if not all, of their best 22 back. And they get the advantage of the home finals.

The dogs have been off their tucker of late but got the contest part of their game back on track last week. If they get get back to their best they are a huge chance as their best is best is a better than than Ports best reckon.

And Beveridge loves the us against them narrative, so might well thrive in front of the Port ferals fans

This really hurts.  I expected it, but my god it takes away a lot of the happiness I feel about this season. I know that it's very selfish, and of course I want us to win, even if the game is played on the moon... but all the things you dream about when you dream of your team winning a premiership after 57 years, have been taken away for us loyal supporters who have suffered long and hard to get here.

2021 is a total dumpster fire.

So there will be a bye after the prelim finals? why?????

So if one of the semi final winners wins a prelim they get a week off...

Were is  the reward for the qualifying final winners???

I just feel like this is a big tease. It is just typical that for years we still turned up to games week after week getting thrashed, not winning & playing horrible footy.

The one year we look like we can finally break through we can't attend. It's just shattering knowing we can't go.

To all the demons fans living in WA, you are so lucky & don't take it for granted

The Brownlow Medalist is already in Perth and we're not supposed to know...

Feeling for you blokes over in VIC (even though we are yet to make it in).

I know there are those who are much older than me and would want nothing more than to be at the GF if we make it.

I feel guilty for how lucky I am being here in WA.

Don't be enjoy the game if we get there.

This must be close to the" no surprise" of 2021. Not playing at the G has been a certainty for the last month.

So players can self isolate in time to attend the brownlow.

I though they said it was virtual this year

My biggest dream was to watch my beloved Dees win a flag .

The experience is what it’s all about.

Ill take the silverware if we win it, but deep down feeling gutted.

"Welcome to your Grand Final commentary.  Max Gawn has won the toss and the Demons will be kicking to the Sea of Tranquility end here at Lunar Park.

The atmosphere at the ground is severely lacking and the playing surface not only resembles a dust bowl but is also quite uneven and appears to be full of craters.

Flags on top of the stand are completely limp but the view is out of the world.

Thankfully, the lights are on and we can confirm that the half-time entertainment is Pink Floyd."

Certainly not taking anything for granted. I’m ignoring any consideration to getting a GF ticket at this stage because we are not there yet and COVID lockdown over here can happen any minute. There is still plenty of time to kill. All we need is one infected [censored] coming in. I have already bought a Prelim final ticket and there is no certainty fans will be able to attend. Yes we are in a good position still  but I would be just as happy for the GF to be in Melbourne and being able to fly over to watch if we get there to be amongst all our  home based supporters.

Anyone that calls you selfish probably attends 4 or 5 games a year, hasn't got a GF guarantee so was going to watch the game on TV regardless and probably wouldn't have bothered rocking up to a game in the Bailey and Neeld era. In other words has no idea what you and other loyal MFC members are going through.

We are being denied what Dogs, Richmond and Geelong supporters got to experience when they broke their long droughts. If that's viewed as selfishness (which I was accused of by a Western Australian based poster) then they are completely out of touch.

it seems norm is making us endure a final series of tribulations to finally lift his curse

bring it on....... anyone, anytime, anyhow, anywhere

hopefully we can then enjoy the 2022 and 2023 flags at the 'g'

Even knowing it was coming this is a bitter pill to swallow. Am I correct in saying the extra week off after prelim is to allow for WA quarantine?

I believe the main reason is that all players can quarantine for enough time in order to attend a live Brownlow count.

And I think they’re going to do a grand final parade which I think is nice for the players.

In my opinion - it's a Bit baffling they're making players attend/quarantine for a Brownlow, Bit rough on players with a "semi but not realistic shot" chance needing to attend.

and @Jadeddon't worry about feeling selfish, everyone is allowed to vent during the pandemic.

Hopefully whatever happens this year, or next, the curse is broken and we can all celebrate more times in the future.

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.
