Jack Viney Suspended for 2 Weeks

Featured Replies

We botched that hearing. But after all the nonsense the league has let go this year they were looking for a scalp.

Players wrestle all the time at training.

Except at Hawthorn where they stuffed up by boxing.

lucky to cop two weeks imo

Incredibly unlucky imo.....

I don't doubt what he did was stupid and was a poor look but let's not forget Viney didn't initiate the contact here.

The AFL is so inconsistent with these cases he has been dealt the harshest penalty than any like for like case and he was the only one to be dragged and held down by the other player.

I think he is incredibly stiff.

If cotchin did that he'd end up getting a public apology from collins. Viney gets weeks.

I love the way Jack plays the game. If the critics take the time to watch the whole sequence in real time they will note that two free kicks to Jack were ignored immediately prior to any elbow/forearm contact. They should also be aware that the action that lead to him being found guilty was brief, greatly magnified by the slow-mo used by the Media.

...but was the video conclusive.

I hope they got a better video than the one doing the rounds on the footy shows last night.

You couldn't make a decision based on that surely?

No evidence from Collins, no evidence from an umpire?

I would have given him a week for being a DH but not sure about the charge of contact with the neck.

2 weeks. shafted at the tribunal. again

Swings and roundabouts.

We got away with an absolute bank robbery with Fritsch in round 7.

Haha I'm in favour of the DH charge.

I'm a bit confused, all year it has been about the outcome and not the action, part of which helped to get fritsch off back at the start of the year.

Collins was clearly fine, played the rest of the game and hasnt had any delayed symptoms in the days following the game.

Big stitch up this.

So many examples in life where stupidity results in a lot harsher penalties...

Take your whack Jack! ?

I genuinely believe this was a good ol stitch up. The AFL handed down orders for Christiansen to pass this straight onto the AFL... possibly as one poster has said, because of the Fritsch incident against Norf or the half a dozen other incidents from other teams that resulted in fines etc.

Why we end up being that club... is it luck? i hardly think so - we are easy pickings and probably dont have any relevant authority or Melbourne people in the commission or AFL management.

Hopefully Viney's fires right up and comes out swinging (metaphorically unless of course he was Hawkins or Franklin) against the Cats in 3 weeks time.

The video was not conclusive. I believe this was acknowledged during the hearing

Yep Viney got stitched. I do however wonder what people here would be saying if it was Petracca or Oliver. I'd be doing cartwheels.

inconclusive video evidence and no witness testimony from collins = shafted

nibbler = shafted

Wouldn't describe Fritsch verdict as bank robbery. Iirc it was deemed no case to answer (accidental contact) which was the correct call. But they did get the decision right so i'll give you that.

  • Demonland changed the title to Jack Viney Suspended for 2 Weeks

That a load of crap, 2 weeks for a "bad look" well good luck defining a "bad look" AFL make this crap up as they go, they are a joke.

Geelong have played their last 4 "home finals" (which itself is a joke) at the MCG... I'll bet anything you like if they get a home final against us it'll be down there.

Sick of being the push overs, hope someone takes a stand against this crap, we constantly ask players to take a stand on weekends yet the leaders of this club just lube themselves up to make it easier on AFL house

ARRRGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!

So Franklin and others can freely swing an elbow, but Viney gets 2 weeks for leaning with an elbow

Edited by Demons1858

I’m glad he didn’t get 3-4.

2 is reasonable.

bring on Jordon and/Jonsey

AFL is such an ameteur sport, how can one guy get a fine and another guy has to spend two weeks on the sideline.

Man this is such a fair sport don't ya think

Yes I find it amazing that Franklin got off his charge. The ramifications of a flying elbow could be enormous. But that seems to be irrelevant

Viney was stupid. But it didn’t warrant 2 weeks

You’d be happy?

Yes. That’s how the AFL works.

However - it’s worked this way for 30 years. At a certain point you have to know what you’re dealing with and adjust.

Yes, the errant elbow (causing damage) is perfectly fine these days. Dangerfield, Hawkins, Hipwood, etc.

Edited by dice

So [censored] ropeable right now.

The contrasting outcomes between Jack and Lance Franklin is a [censored] disgrace.

The only potential upside is that we can now micro manage Jacks training regime in the run-up to finals, get him cherry ripe ready to tear some opposition on-ballers a new one.

I'm ok with the 2 weeks, it's ridiculous and has no place, as long as that becomes the standard to witch all else are measured. It's the blatant double standards that needs to be held accountable.

This isn't a mistake, or a miss interpretation/classification. They sent him straight in, to be made an example, while other get off free.

Ill never forget Tom Mitchell running back the the center after a North Melbourne goal, jumping 2ft off the ground to elbow Goldstein in the back of the head, while he's not looking, in-between play, he had to run 25m to catch up and premeditate his actions...

And he goes in to win a brownlow...

Farcical.

I am not ok with 2 weeks, for all the reasons you have mentioned above. The AFL Tribunal is an absolute dog’s breakfast.
Why did Franklin get off? Sydney would have lost last week without him playing.
I hope the MFC make Enquiries about this Clown ? School

  • CASEY: Richmond

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demons’ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.

It seemed as if the whole purpose of the Anzac Eve clash at the MCG between the Demons and the Tigers was building toward that single, unforgettable moment when Kozzie Pickett soared above Campbell Gray and all but fittingly etched his name onto the face of the 2026 Frank ‘Checker’ Hughes Medal.
