Finding this win very satisfying.Ā  In years gone by, we would have been Port Adelaide, a team that areĀ compeditive most weeks, but not good enough to beat top 8 / top 4 sides.Ā  Not this year.Ā  We just seem to be able to find that extra gear, intensity and have that extra level of poise against the betterĀ teams around us on the ladder.

Once we get a lead of 10 - 20 points up, we just seem to be able to control the game and hardly let sides back in.Ā  I did like that even though Port had periods of midfeild dominance, we were able to absorb that onslaught once again, without being hurt big time on the scoreboard.

Would love to borrow Spargo’s brain occasionally to get me out of a pickle with the lovely wife.

His manoeuvre in and out of about 5 Port players and kick to an open Langdon on the outer wing in the last to set up a goal was sublime.

I didn’t need one either OD, but I do want one

Bollocks.

33 posessions? Do you really think goody cares about those posessions when barely one hurt,Ā  bar his goal.Ā

Every touch he had was under viney pressure and that resulted in us getting our intercepts.

Port totally rely on wines for their clearances.

The game was won in the first half. Wines had one clearance to half time. One.

And only four in the second half. I don't know how many of them were in tbe ladt, but the game was over at 3 quarter time

How about Kossie's.Ā  The wife might that even more.Ā  We're Charlie ducks and weaves, Kossie dances and sings with the footy.

Think it was the start of the 3rd quarter when Gawn had a few vintage hitouts out of the centre straight to Oliver and Trac, which we haven't seen for a while, and I thought 'we're on here...'

Interesting post-game hearing Gawn pretty much saying they'd done some heavy training around the bye, but more importantly hearing him talk about Kozzy and how he hasn't been able to see his family at a time where it would be really important was a really telling moment of his care for the group and maybe something not many supporters have thought about when looking at his form onfield.

Ā

Round 16 and we've not been outplayed at any stage this year in my opinion, our losses are when we are down, out system hasn't been beaten.Ā

we're going to be very very hard to beat come finals

Ā

Ā

We had 19 tackles i50 to 9

That's the game there

Huge difference in intent and pressure this week

Is it just me or does the simple fact Brown was on the ground take some of the defensive pressure away from the other forwards?

Best win for the year.Ā
that was a severely hostile crowd early

Would love to fill the G With Demons like that during home and away games

Langdon would have to put in about 6 bad games in a row to ever feature in the being dropped discussion, such are the credits he has in the bank.

Fritsch was hardly bad - he was a factor in a far more dynamic forward line than last week.

Never said Fritch was bad, just off his usual game. He had the fumbles at most. Best players will give performances they would rather forget.

That's the good thing about where we are at, we didn't rely on these 3 to get the win. Others stood up. Petty was gold, his best game so far.Ā

We won because we brought the pressure. Viney 10 tackles.

Liked Hunt's game again tonight.Ā  He has been really desperate, tough and effectiveĀ with some of his defensive play.Ā  Has had a few off games, but overall would have to be putting in one of his most consistent seasons.

Hibbo pretty good again as well.

Jackson and BBB did not much...

How good is having a forward structure!!!!

Both contributed to the structure and the pressure.Ā

A lot of it is still between the ears for our players.Ā
Ā

Against the top teams we are switched on but against lower teams we seem to struggle to be switched on but it’s something we can work on prior to the end of the season.Ā

Fortunately in finals we won’t meet any of the bottom 10 teams ?

Super win, always tough to beat Port at home particularly since we had momentum then lost it but got it back again. Ā
Ā

If we bring our pressure and improve our set shot kicking we can absolutely win the premiership. IfĀ we don’t bring our pressure we can lose to almost anyone.Ā
Ā

Clayton Oliver is possibly my favourite player of all time but boy does he need to work on his set shots. He plays his game so quick and such an instinctive player it’s almost like he has to much time to think about his set shots.Ā
Ā

Petty is improving rapidly and I think he is playing better footy than Tomlinson.Ā
Ā

Still plenty to work on but that was good.Ā

You aren’t the only one, hope they keep this setup even without kicking a goal I think the fwd line functions much better, if we are going to win the whole thing this year we will need him.Ā

Haven'tĀ bothered to read any of this [censored] tonight, but if anyone is bothering to find something to be negative about... pure Trolls, NO CREDIBILITY!, Give up! Crawl back into your hole! Go Dees!

Just a little down. Hasn't really been much to write about since Snowtown unless you include Nigel Smart's fire walk.

That was a great win

Welcome to the side Ben Brown

Viney is a concern and so is our goal kicking

but a great pressure game, the same way that last week wasn’t

We must get more consistent before THE FINALS

Viney completely shut out Wines tonight, he was very good.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologistĀ  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmedĀ the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).Ā

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
