Jones desperately unlucky.

Not surprised Brown did not come in. Give him another week to build his strength and fitness.

He has played bugger all football in the last 6 weeks. Another game at vfl level and he comes in for Port game.

And that will be tbe forward line settled. Assuming his form is ok I suspect he will play the rest of tbe season and finals from next week.

You need to perform well in multiple consecutive weeks at VFL to be considered for promotion.

Chin up BBB. We need another five+ goals for Casey this weekend. No-one is gifted a game in Demons 2021. No matter who they are ... or were. If you're good enough you'll show us. Every Demon supporter wants you to succeed.

Having said that, I feel sorry for poor Jonesy getting an injury straight after his pearler VFL game.  There's still time to get back in this team but that sucks.

Well Weids was gifted a few. Just saying.

IF BBB has been left out because of the weather I hope its not wet for the next 6 weekends.

1mm of rain. It’ll pretty much be a dry game.

I’m disappointed with no BBB in. I can only assume that the coaches want one more game of that from Ben.

I think BBB has been left out to give him a body of games in the 2’s rather than bring him straight in after one good game. There could also be KPI’s that we aren’t aware of that the selectors want him to hit.

Shame about Jonesy, I really hope it’s not serious. I want him to make one final push for selection towards the finals, make it really hard for them not to pick him.

On the GWS side I’m surprised the De Boar has be dropped for this one given he had placed a blanket over Oliver before getting injured in the first meeting this year. Green is a big in for them, talk about match winners he almost did it himself against us last time out. For sentimentality I would’ve liked to see Hogan come in as well as I reckon the Dees faithful would’ve given him a cheer, at the same time though we know how dangerous he can be so would’ve been less cheerful if he kicked a bag on us!

He was gifted a few after earning the spot in the team, the selectors gave him the chance to build form and he failed to take the opportunity given to him. I’m sure Ben will be given the same chance when he gets in the side.

Hope so. The sooner the better so we can work things out before finals.

But you don’t need to perform in the seniors to hold your spot, so I’m not so sure

Mumford is sure to have a few ‘clumsy moments’ this week against Gawn. Nothing surer

Golly, I wish Vanders had an opportunity to line up on Mumbum.

I’m really surprised we didn’t bring in BB but maybe the club is just not fully happy with his fitness and want to give him more time to be cherry ripe. It’s still a long season and at 12-2 I don’t think we should doubt the coaches.

The time to peak isn’t now, but getting our forward structure right is still top priority before finals. I feel like BB must be really close and our forwards know it. Incentive to play out of their skins on Saturday. And hopefully kick straight!

This game will be won in the middle anyway. GWS have a really genuinely strong midfield both inside and outside. If we defend them well through the middle of the ground and win the contested ball we should account for them. Their backline isn’t their strength.
Super interested to see if we put Hibbo on Greene or if they put May on him. He is basically their Dusty. Shut him down and it goes a long way to nullifying their scoring power.

It is a mistake imo. We had nobody to kick to for large parts of the Essendon game. Also, McDonald plays 5x better when another key forward in the side. Brown had earnt his spot.

Also Hawthorns tall forwards gave GWS all sorts of problems last week. I agree I'm really surprised they didn't bring Brown in for a run of games to see how he goes, the real problem was who you drop for him.

I'd make vanders a sthe sub. That way we know we are getting a good player to come on if need be. Alike replacement for Jones.

Vanders is the Sub. You hope the Med Sub is never needed, however, given he is still short of match play given how little he’s played all year, last week proved that if he can finally get over the foot injury that’s plagued him for 4 years, he is a very valuable commodity with his genuine tackle to hurt factor.  I know for a fact that opposition players say they’re a little more comfortable when he’s not there.

Huh?

Dylan Moore kicked 4.  He’s 176cm.

O’Brien kicked 2, from 5 marks. Good but nothing spectacular. Koschitzke barely touched it. Most of the rest of their goals were from mids.

I though BB deserved to play

selection committee have been getting it right all year so i'll back their judgment but i would think BB has to come in next week. We can't continue to tolerate a misfiring forward set-up and leave a 60-goal per season player in the 2's.

I think we'll find the entire reason the 60 goal a year forward isn't in the team yet, is because he's not matchfit. Barely played last year and had an injury interrupted pre season this year. We gave him a few games to get a feel for the team earlier in the year and it was clear he needed to be fitter.

I reckon he's going to slot in beautifully over the next couple of weeks and we have this luxury to get him right, because of the ability of our current forward set up to still get get job done. But as Goodwin continues to say, we want to continue to look for ways to improve and no douht BB will do this if fit.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
