Devon smith didn't allow jordan a clear run ahead for his girst 50. So ump pinged hom 50 correctly for the second 50. Turning point moment.

And he doesn't shut up anyway.

And the booing at the ground was the best/worst I've ever heard.

Bombet fans victim complexes possibly.

The first 50 was 100% there. I was yelling 50 - just as it was paid.

The second was for abuse.

Complete lack of discipline

Devon smith ran with the 50 and did not move out of the zone once he arrived at its point, a clear and blantant 2nd 50m penalty f'n stupid football by Devon.

Clear and simple.

they are absoluting losing it over at bomberblitz.... claiming a matching fixing conspiracy with the umps now....

that soccer goal from harrison jones was 50/50 at best and looked over the line before he connected from the goal camera, just one of many examples that went their way...  anyway

suck it up dreamers....

That may be the case but as I couldn't get a ticket I had to watch it on TV.

And when they replayed it you could hear the umpire tell Smith it (the second 50) was for abuse

Yep, he definitely paid the second 50m for abuse. Rutten even mentioned it in his presser.

Yep, It’s been a long time between drinks for the drug cheats making that trip to Kardinia.

Perhaps the grumpy Essendon fans should watch the AFL site’s post game highlights video - shows 7 of Essendon’s goals, to just 5 of Melbourne’s goals. Watching those highlights they’d think that Essendon actually won the game, humouring their delusional mindset.

I was comfortable with that goal. The ball has to be all the way over the line before it is a score. So as long as some part of his foot touches the ball before the ball is all the way over I think that's in the spirit of the rules (I don't know of technically the ball needs to leave the footy to be considered a kick).

That was clearly a point - surely the ball has to have left his boot before it crosses the line?? Of course with the crappy cameras the AFL is working with you don't actually see anything, just a blur of yellow. Amateur hour.

If you look at the whole game, which I just did on replay after getting home from the G, the holding the ball was adjudicated the same way all night. There were several examples of Essendon players inside our 50 in the first quarter being pinged exactly the same way. There is no prior, they’ve attempted to dispose, it’s play on! There was one Essendon player who was caught in front of our goal and drop kicked it, play on.

then after they’d booed so much they spooked the umpire into paying the one against Kozzy, which was blatantly high! The umps were scared to pay anything but holding the ball.

there was one against TMAC, who executed a chase down tackle on the edge of the square, punt rd end, the bloke drops it cold and rather than paying the free kick for dropping the ball, he pings TMAC for holding the player too long in the tackle.

the Petracca non decision in the last quarter was close to a sling tackle. No, In fact it was a sling tackle. He also had no prior.

they can huff and puff all they like. They drove the narrative the entire game. From the first bounce. They booed everything. The commentators are sucked in by it. It becomes the narrative. Then the TV audience believe it.

What all this shows is that Essendon had to rely on sensational, low % goals and every marginal umpiring free kick to keep them competitively in the game.

We controlled the game through our superior defense when they had the ascendancy (thanks to May, Lever, Hunt, Hibbo & Co) and were able to break down their defense and punish them on the scoreboard when we had the ascendancy, despite the lack of a clearly dominant permanent forward on the night - it's what good teams do and marginal ones can't do consistently.

That's the lay of the land right now Bombers supporters.  Suck it up and shut up.

In 20 years of posting on many forums I’ve never ever had a ban. I got on last night on big footy for telling that scum what I think of them and their fans.

its a badge of honour. What a bunch of [censored] the lot of them are

I would have thought so too, even if you are allowed to kick it before it is still half way over the line, by the time it leaves the boot it will likely already be more than halfway over the line....

i guess my point is the digital or camera review has such poor resolution you wouldn't be able to conclude one way or another, so the original decision stands, unless it can clearly be seen to be an absolute howler....

So if it was ruled a point initially by the umpire, that decision would have equally stood

I would have loved a more commanding performance. Failing that, a scrappy win with some dubious umpiring was my second choice, just so we could hear the sooking from the Essendon fans. Honestly, they complain every week. They are something else.

If I go today at Casey it could get very interesting if Bomber supporters are also able to attend. I MIGHT have to bring my A grade sledgefest game to keep proceedings alive?

The rule used to be that your foot couldn't be connected to the ball as it crossed the line. WTF happened to that?

you had to poke your foot at the ball and it couldn't cross the line.

can anyone enlighten me if that rule has changed?

if we had kicked for goal just a little bit accurately we win by about 30 points

there was a point there in 3q where we missed 3 fairly easy set shots in a row

44 i50s to their 33

back line may have won it bit fwd line had the opportunity to put it beyond question

I hope the cats smash them.

If Essendon fans want to know why they lost just watch Matty Lloyd on the sunday footy show where he showed the bummers bombing it into may & lever

Devon has brain fade form and not just with his present Club.

The Umpires are now demonstrating that if the Rules are consistently applied throughout a game, and, for the rest of the season it actually works to their benefit and the AFL image for the rest of the year..

“Max Gawn has been the heart and soul of the Dees for years now, but this recent recovery from a terrible start has been driven by him. He was everywhere again, and with the game in the balance, he took several key marks to keep the ball in the Dees forward half.” - The Monday Knee Jerk Reaction: Round Ten Of course, it wasn’t the efforts of one man that caused this monumental upset, but rather the work of the coach and his assistants and the other 22 players who took the ground, notably the likes of Jake Melksham, Christian Petracca, Clayton Oliver and Kozzie Pickett but Max has been magnificent in taking ownership of his team and its welfare under the fire of a calamitous 0-5 start to the season. On Sunday, he provided the leadership that was needed to face up to the reigning premier and top of the ladder Brisbane Lions on their home turf and to prevail after a slow start, during which the hosts led by as much as 24 points in the second quarter. Titus O’Reily is normally comedic in his descriptions of the football but this time, he was being deadly serious. The Demons have come from a long way back and, although they still sit in the bottom third of the AFL pack, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel as they look to drive home the momentum inspired in the past four or five weeks by Max the Magnificent who was under such great pressure in those dark, early days of the season.

The Southport Sharks came to Casey. They saw and they conquered a team with 16 AFL-listed players who, for the most part, wasted their time on the ground and failed to earn their keep. For the first half, the Sharks were kept in the game by the Demons’ poor use of the football, it’s disposal getting worse the closer the team got to its own goal and moreover, it got worse as the game progressed. Make no mistake, Casey was far and away the better team in the first half, it was winning the ruck duels through Tom Campbell’s solid performance but it was the scoreboard that told the story.
