Quite an extraordinary thing to say really.

Brown has been serviceable.

And which current lineup are you referring to?

I don't think it's too far-fetched to say Brown's couple of games at AFL level were poor.

The current lineup is the one that played on the weekend - without either Weideman or Brown.

I'm not against a system that includes those guys but we've lacked a little fwd pressure when either has played and I believe we're unbeaten when neither has played.

We're also unbeaten when BB has played. He was dropped for the Adelaide game.

Not only can Weiderman not hold a mark, or kick straight, when the ball hits the deck he’s totally exposed and shows no desire to chase and tackle. There is no way we want him as a defender, he would get toweled up by any half decent forward

Have more faith than that He is not that bad.

HIATUS by KC from Casey

After their five week Covid19 lockdown hiatus, the Casey Demons were fairly scratchy against Essendon VFL for the best part of 2½ quarters on Sunday afternoon but they finally settled down to motor away to a 48 point victory.

With 20 AFL affiliated players on the team sheet, the Casey line up looked the strongest team ever put together since linking up with the Demons but the team struggled to score in the early going and managed its first goal to Aaron vandenBerg late in the first term. The teams were on level pegging at the quarter time break with veteran Nathan Jones in everything and Jake Melksham providing great back up. The teams remained virtually locked together for the first half of the term until an inspirational goal from Jones from a long way out on the boundary was followed by another from Mitch White after a chain of possession started deep in defence by that man Jones. They went into the sheds at half time with the home side 15 points ahead.

After the break it was the Bombers who were reinvigorated and three quick goals were the result of some strong running through the lines that caught the Casey defence by surprise. The Demons regrouped however, and were steadied by two goals from Ben Brown, one from a strong mark, the other from a nice pick up in the goal square. By the final break, the three goal buffer was restored and the goals flowed in the final term with Casey recording a big win.

Ben Brown recorded a five goal haul to underscore his case for AFL promotion while his rival for a return to the Melbourne team, Sam Weideman, was also impressive but in a different role which required his involvement further down the ground with the odd run in the ruck. Both men were overshadowed by Jones who demonstrated that his days at the top are not yet over. 2020 draftee Jake Bowey impressed with his composure and excellent disposal by foot and hand. Melksham and vandenBerg also showed their class.

The two players recruited in the recent Mid Season Draft - Kye Declase and Daniel Turner - both had impressive debuts and look to have senior potential but will need to bide their time and establish their credentials. Mitch Brown went off early with a heel injury.

The game gave Melbourne Football Club selectors plenty of food for thought as the game and the country travel again into the unknown with Covid19 outbreaks affecting several states.

Interesting for those that make deliberations based on stats

Sam wasn't anywhere near as effective as Ben.

Ben Brown 5 goals 2 behinds 14 kicks 14 disposals 8 marks 1 tackle 3 hit outs 106 dream team points

Sam Weideman 1 goal 3 behinds 13 kicks 8 handballs 21 disposals 11 marks 2 tackles 10 hit outs 113 dream team points

Yeah I think it is. He was more than serviceable. And when you consider he hadn't played for nearly 2 years, the conditions in his 3 games - he was far better than "poor"

And with the 'current lineup' - how did you see the continual bombing of the ball into our forward line that saw the ball killed or us outmarked so often by the Ess talls?

Spargo on a number of occasions was trying to market against 6' 6" Stewart....

Many have a rest before Spargo! Kozzie might be the one, even if it's just a breather for a week or two to make sure he's fresh for finals. Though they have just had the bye.

Jones & B Brown could be considered based on their game today and our needs.

Bowey is going to be a really really good link up player. He may not break into the defence this year though with this being his development year, watch this guy in 2022 after another preseason and year in the Demons system. His ball use and vision is classy.

Rosman was solid on the wing.

Vanders got better as the game wore on. Melk was ok and creative.

But lets talk about Declase. He got better and better and better as that game went on was in everything in the second half. He reminds me of outside-mid version of Jeremey Howe, covers the ground with ease and a player that our AFL team would weaponize.

That’s a cool story and I acknowledged that Weid did some good work up the ground, which is confirmed in the Casey Match Report. Right now, Weid is competing with TMAC for the high half forward role. Meanwhile, Ben Brown is kicking the 5 goals we need to elevate our score to more than 9 goals for a match. I really don’t understand why people can’t see that there was a disconnection with our forwards on the weekend. We don’t have a key target atm. Brown in frees up McDonald and Fritta. If TMac stinks it up and Weid continues to perform, he comes back to play CHF.

Jones was great in that game but he's not going to play that role of #1 on-baller for MFC

Jones is a must in for Sparrow IMV.  Bowie is still a little way off although this might be only two or three Casey games off if he can turn it on a little.  Kozzie & Spargo are both on the fringe and would need to improve from here.  At least one of them is in danger if the pressure comes from Casey options.  That would also depend on whether the VFL / Casey continue to play through Covid from here though.  If it doesn't i can't see either coming out unless injured.

Interesting - who can disrupt the trip-wire of innovation, good effect onfield and classy foot skills - particularly for our forwards.

A key and vital consideration to the ascending staircase of goals that we need.

Great, but he isn’t a forward. We don’t need another linkman playing high half forward, unless you think TMac is inferior ?  As a forward he is way off it. That’s all this chat is about. Is Weid the answer to our forward line problems? So he has a new role coz he has been proven to be incapable of playing forward ??? What am I missing? He had two shots on goal yesterday and never looked like it! He can play his new role at Casey and hope that McDonald is hurt or has a form slump.

The club is in a great spot with the Casey team undefeated and so many players on the cusp of selection in the senior team. We have a number of players developing well with good prospects for the future which partially cancels out the fact that we won't be well placed for the draft. We just need to get our kicking boots on.

Not sure if anyone noticed but the Northern Bullants who Carlton flung to have there own reserves trashed the Blues yesterday. Small irony there.
