Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Pending rest of the game, it could be something like Brown and Jones/Melk in, Sparrow and Spargo/Kozzy out.

Kozzy needs a rest for a week, whilst Spargo contributes, he needs a rest as well. I am thinking Jones and Bowie as feeders to the forwards. Probably not a popular choice but worth a try if our forwards respond to what those two can do in range.

Dunno who you drop tho

Right now, Kozzy and Spargo would benefit with a rest to watch how Jones' techniques work so well for so long. He may not have that pace these days but he plays hard, has unique evasion and is now kicking at targets, not bombing or holding up play for awarded frees.

What do you mean benefit from a rest? They've just come off a bye with a week's rest already.

I’ve thought this for a while and thrown it up a couple of times. It’s a tricky call because in his last year on his contract it’s basically sending a message that he’s failing as a forward and he’s a magnet that gets thrown around now. But I do think playing him as a defender would teach him a lot, I wish they’d tried it earlier to be honest.

A little time at Casey, to re-hone skills and applications. Nothing more ...

Why would they need a rest they already had one a week ago stupid talk really. Jones will have to bide his time unfortunately even though he is in great form loved Bowey's game looks like a gun.

Jones is a must in for Sparrow IMV.  Bowie is still a little way off although this might be only two or three Casey games off if he can turn it on a little.  Kozzie & Spargo are both on the fringe and would need to improve from here.  At least one of them is in danger if the pressure comes from Casey options.  That would also depend on whether the VFL / Casey continue to play through Covid from here though.  If it doesn't i can't see either coming out unless injured.

My take:

Jones was exceptional. Definitely the closest small to the AFL 22.

Ben Brown was good but I am still not convinced he would add to the side. Jackson and TMac are so much more mobile.

Weideman is badly out of form and had lost confidence in his goal kicking.

Bowey would be playing AFL at most clubs. Classy and quick.

Bailey Laurie will need to get a lot fitter to be an AFL player. Looked a bit overweight and lacked pace.

I'm not against this but it's an important decision with a fair bit riding on it.

When selected, Brown has been poor and like you say, if they're going to select him, he needs a fair run of games but top 4 is on the line and our current lineup has been the most effective.

That said, with the way Essendon defended us (and the way we entered 50), we could have done with a stay at home tall to make some of the Bomber defenders accountable.

I would argue that Essendon are better than most at covering the ground and getting players into our front half to flood. Against most teams, dropping a pressure player for a tall would be unnecessary at best, detrimental at worst.

Quite an extraordinary thing to say really.

Brown has been serviceable.

And which current lineup are you referring to?

Close picket. I prefer the Mignon a tad over medium. Little Giant was fine but I went to the cellar for a preferred choice tonight.

Ok Ill say it, we will  NOT be in a position to win a flag without BB this year!!

I'll second that and go one further that we will struggle to make a PF (not to be confused with a Picket Fence!) if we don't.  However that also depends on him finding somewhere near his best form in a block of 3 to 4 games if he is given the chance.

Scoreboard pressure and marks inside 50, bringing ball to ground, forcing opp to place their best tall defender on him and our only genuine (accurate) goal kicking forward option (out to about 50 meters) should not be underestimated.

Taking the Opp's best tall defender will also see T-Mac getting the 2nd best defender where he often seems to blossom, benefiting the team as a whole.

T-Mac playing higher and BB deep with occasional swap over also seems to be a decent pairing.  With others leading to the flanks this should open things up for the small crumbers to feed off a bit more often.

At the moment our structure and method forward of center is a big mess.  Add to that all forwards inability to kick accurately from more than about 35/40 meters.  Fix these forward issues and i think we can go all the way to a GF.  Ignore it and i think it will catch us out at the pointy end and we'll all be bemoaning "the season that might have been....again".

Best and worst of Demonland all rolled up in one thread. Awesome.

Great to hear Vanders in amongst it. I’m a fan - I can’t see an avenue in to the side for this year now, especially given how many better players than him lined up along side him today, but I’d love to see him bang the door down. I’ve never seen a player who tackles to hurt the way he does when he’s going.

Sounds like Jones and BBB keeping their names in the mix. Perfect.

Bit harsh on Laurie - pretty sure it was his first game back after a broken jaw. Will be better for the run.

Brown and Jones will come under serious considerations next week. Jones was playing like a guy so desperate to come back into the team.

Today's game was so beneficial for guys like Vanders, Melksham, Bowey who will also come under selection notice in the coming weeks with a few hard sides coming up.

Might work.  My memory tells me Neita started as a defender, and moved forward out of necessity when Schwarta went down.  However, there are two notable blokes who both definitely started as forwards (with limited success), only to carve out terrific careers as defenders, by name of Steven Smith and Gary Hardeman.

100% correct on all counts.

It was a fractured eye socket and I believe his first game.

With Nathan Jones it was a pity the club didn’t test him out v Collingwood on the SCG where we would be better served by him on the smaller ground.

Only watched the first half. Rosman looked pretty good to me and, reading through the posts, guessing he played better in the second half. And for some reason, every time I see him I think of Earl Spalding.

I'd love to see how he'd go in the ones but I'm not sure where he'd fit and if they'd even look at him this year. Still, 194cm, roams up and down the ground and gets the footy. I'm assuming he's rubbish in front of goal.

My question: do they serve up egg and bacon rolls at Casey?

Fritta would want to be pulling his finger out very soon otherwise a swap with BBB and maintaining our 3 pronged mosquito fleet spargs, ANB and Kosi may be on the cards.

Its the only way we can accommodate Tmac, Action and BBB in the same side.

We need to maintain the overall balance of our line up and i see this as a logical progressive step towards a greater forward marking presence.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh

It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
