Gee whizz. We were poor all over the ground today. Dogga was great and Max lifted after half time but that was it. A shop store mannequin would be more value than Sam Weideman right now but I guess we shouldn't lose sight of the fact that he did have a great game in a final three years ago.

I'd like to think that immersing myself in the European Championships for the next couple of weeks will be the distraction I need to get over this game but I'll be supporting Scotland so no reprieve there.

It's pretty rare that every player puts in a dreadful performance in the one week. That speaks to mindset. I'd like to say it speaks to mental fragility, but all past premiers failed to turn up at times too, so no need to read into that too much.

Our leaders were well beaten today or played Hollywood football. Petracca, Oliver, McDonald, May and Gawn all dreadful. Jackson possibly our only winner, but even he was caught ball watching in transition a few times too.

I don't think Rivers had an effective disposal until the second half. He certainly had 3 direct turn overs by foot in a row. Kozzy played hero, selfish footy. Sparrow was his untidy self. Our forwards barely sighted for the game. Another average performance for Weideman, but delivery to him for most of the day was average. Possibly Lever was our best, aside from that brainfade early.

In many ways it was a vintage Melbourne performance though. Expected to win, important game and then we go and let a very ordinary player like Cameron play his PB game.

It's extremely disappointing given they'd just won my trust, but I should have known when Ed threw up on his MFC gear earlier today (he'd done similar the day of the Adelaide game), we'd put in a stinker.

We'll welcome back Viney into the team, although winning the ball wasn't our problem today. It was taking the first option, not something Jack is renowned for.

Clearly, Viney for Sparrow and hopefully Brown for Weideman or McDonald. But McDonald has enough runs on the board to this stage.

In footy, things can change quickly and we could well look back on today's game and say that it cost us a top 4 spot.

Great post AF, the only thing I would argue is that I don’t think Ben Brown would be adding much more than Weideman the way the ball is coming into the forward line. I think we might be better playing without both of them, particularly on small grounds like the SCG.

When we beat Essendon in a couple of weeks I don’t want to hear from any of the “supporters” who overreacted today.

I'd rather not hear your sanctimonious posts either

We departed from 'team first' -> as has been pointed out, Clarrie and Tracca tried too hard to be the man!

Tracca's poor kicking was demoralising when we needed a steadier, calmer head. Next step for the champ!

Max played a tired, cumbersome first half... his second half is what was needed from the first bounce

Rivers was poor by foot too often. He is young and he is good, so I expect he will improve on this rapidly

The Weideman experiment is over. M Brown offers more, without even considering BBB.

Sparrow thinks he has VFL time when playing at the elite level

Forwards who were having a poor day needed to do everything humanly possible to bring the ball to ground instead of standing flat footed allowing Woods intercepts

Of course it was  coming as soon as Buckley news broke.  As I never win on the punt put $5 on Pies to get back $25   reason I thought I was buying us a win   wished I lost the $5    but will take the $25.

Disappointing but due for a barry crocker  At least over the  bye we will not be looking at ourselves in the mirror.

Yes Weed has had enough chances   play Brown next 3 weeks.(plenty down on form today of course)    Weed has to show form in VFL again.  Max needs a rest so bye good time.      We move to the bummers next.     Really worried that loss could cost us top 4.  Are we are top 4 side yet?   dunno or did we just break out of the blocks and peak early.....  time will tell.   Please must make top 4 after a start like that surely

In Goody's presser, I hope to hell he does not say we still have things to learn.  I really hope he says that our performance today was totally unacceptable and no-one's position is guaranteed.  Controlled anger can be a constructive emotion occasionally.

Today is why I do not trust this team or this club.

I really thought I had got past that this year.  But they were so far off their best it was like a different team.

Will the real Demons team please turn up?!

Uhm I back AGAINST the Dees every single week. Have done for years. Why? Because I love the MFC with every fibre of my being. I figure if we win, I’m thrilled. If we lose, I’m devastated but I’m devastated with a little extra $. That’s how much I love this club. As for rubbishing their performance, I challenge anyone to find any post of mine wherein I rubbish the players, or the club or anything else to do with MFC.
I have NEVER, nor would I ever rubbish the Dees. Right now I’m so angry I’m crying. Not because my beloved Dees lost, but because someone has effectively questioned my way of adoring this club. There ya go, hope that’s made your day.

Don't feel as though you have to justify yourself to online trolls

Won’t be after the dogs play next week and we have the bye.

Unless Geelong win of course, which given the game is in Geelong is a pretty big possibility

I didn't say you did rubbish them, I said that if you backed another side to beat them don't rubbish them if they lose.

I DON’T RUBBISH THEM. EVER.

Win or lose, I can’t ever put S**t on them. Ever.
And It’s NOT about the money. F**k the money! I don’t back against us in the hope of making money. It’s the complete opposite. I would sooner not make a cent. Coz that means we’re winning.
Anyways, why are you always so grumpy?

the reason why MFCSS won't go away. do we have a problem, losing two games to teams in the Botton 4?

No intention to slash my wrists but now I’m looking at my kitchen knives and mulling over whether to sharpen them or buy new ones.

Yeah, I should’ve known better. He just hit a nerve. But you’re right. Thank you. ?

Well that's good then that you don't rubbish them, you are one of the few that don't.

I wonder if DeGoey will get looked at for his high hit on Oliver. Yes he didn't concuss him but he had the elbow up and wasn't going for the ball.

We fell for the old coaches last game “spell”, so disappointed with our effort today. What about trying to man up one on one footy, they made us play dumb footy.!!!!

Also I never want us to play at the SCG again outside of away games vs Sydney.

This game should’ve been played at the MCG irrespective of fans or no fans.

We’re playing for sheep stations at the moment and playing a game at a venue that a) clearly didn’t suit us and b) where we won’t playing in September did nobody any favours.

As I said during the week, we need to play as many games at the G to prefect our game plan and therefore the out of town home games need to finish, while the VIC government allows us to still play at the MCG.

This sort of stuff is unacceptable. Have a bit of a think about it, and tell us all if you really think making that kind of personal judgement about a footballer at the highest level, who is undeniably valued by his peers but who you DON’T know, is either fair or justified. Just garbage.

He has talent and is a good VFL player who may make it in the AFL but need to go back for a spell.  Anyone who plays at this level  is a good footballer in top elite  per cent of the population

He should certainly be fined. Might get a week

Such a ****ful ground. No space.

I couldn’t, even if I tried. What I have for the Dees is what can only be called ‘blind adoration.’
But enough about that. You didn’t answer my question: why are you always so grumpy?

  • GAMEDAY: Geelong

It's Game Day, and reinforcements are finally arriving for the Demons—but will it be too little, too late? They're heading down the freeway to face a Cats side returning home to their fortress after two straight losses, desperate to reignite their own season. Can the Demons breathe new life into their campaign, or will it slip even further from their grasp?

  • PREVIEW: Geelong

"It's officially time for some alarm bells. I'm concerned about the lack of impact from their best players." This comment about one of the teams contesting this Friday night’s game came earlier in the week from a so-called expert radio commentator by the name of Kane Cornes. He wasn’t referring to the Melbourne Football Club but rather, this week’s home side, Geelong. The Cats are purring along with 1 win and 2 defeats and a percentage of 126.2 (courtesy of a big win at GMHBA Stadium in Round 1 vs Fremantle) which is one win more than Melbourne and double the percentage so I guess that, in the case of the Demons, its not just alarm bells, but distress signals. But don’t rely on me. Listen to Cornes who said this week about Melbourne:- “They can’t run. If you can’t run at speed and get out of the contest then you’re in trouble.

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit.
Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

For a brief period of time in the early afternoon of yesterday, the Casey Demons occupied top place on the Smithy’s VFL table. This was only made possible by virtue of the fact that the team was the only one in this crazy competition to have played twice and it’s 1½ wins gave it an unassailable lead on the other 20 teams, some of who had yet to play a game.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

In my all-time nightmare game, the team is so ill-disciplined that it concedes its first two goals with the courtesy of not one, but two, fifty metre penalties while opening its own scoring with four behinds in a row and losing a talented youngster with good decision-making skills and a lethal left foot kick, subbed off in the first quarter with what looks like a bad knee injury.
