Just wonder if the filth would be as stupid as Carlscum, North and St Kilda in appointing Harvey if he gets a few wins. ???

I don't know how good Buckley is as a coach but he seems to have got the best out his list. Sadly for him he has been robbed of good players by others in the FD over the last 3 years. Would you want the job at the Pies? They are giving away their first pick this year and have a list  where a few players are paid well over the odds  and then a lot who are average talents. It is going to take some time to rebuild their list when you have no money to recruit established players. What other reason would good established players want to go there they are not liable to play in a GF anytime soon.

With you OD. it'll take them 2-3 years to fix up the list, and some really unpopular decisions. they may have to trade a Grundy or De Goey to get things under control.

No evidence of this, but I think the filth precipitated Buckley's departure, because they have intel that Teague is on the way out.  As a result, Collingwood did not want to have to go into a bidding war for their preferred candidate as a replacement for Buckley - whoever that may be.

There was a good vibe among the Collingwood players after they beat Adelaide. The mood was very positive towards Bucks. The sudden decision to leave is likely to be demoralising. Who are they playing for?

he got the best AND the worst out of his list

took over a beaten grand finalist - who the previous year were the youngest and least-experienced premiers on record - and took them backwards every year except for massive jump forward in 2018, thanks to a very good finals series, then another inexorable slide over the next three years

2012: 16 wins
2013: 14
2014: 11
2015: 10
2016: 9
2017: 9 and a draw (so technically an improvement on last year, but finishing position was a rung lower on the ladder)
2018: 15 (but won three finals to make the grand final)
2019: 15
2020: 9 and a draw (in a 17 game season)
2021: 3 (from 12)

he's actually had a very impressive list in that time period and other than a good 2018 has not achieved anything like that the quality would indicate the filth should have done

i'm worried about them getting a good coach and developing a lot more quickly than i would like...

Apologies. Perhaps should have read...Roger from Snow complications vis a vis Buller, Falls, Perisher and Thredbo.

Not forgetting Simon, Drew, Chris and Blair.

No trip to the snow this weekend but reckon a few tinnies and gluhwein in front of the fire will be in order, not forgetting some other home comforts. And no problemos with spreading the virus.

Apologies certainly not necessary, but I would nominate Dougal from Demonland or maybe Sinclair from the Snowfields?

Great player and almost great coach good luck Nathan.

I’ll be watching the game closely on Monday

Which huddle will Choco go to at 1/4 time? If he turns towards the Lombards banner ... ....... we have a problem !

?

Maybe they'll try and poach Goody

PS. I well remember Garry Lyon being interviewed in a winning Melbourne side in his early days at the MFC shortly after coming down from Kyabram. Struggled to put sentences together but made sense. In contrast, in the same situation, Buckley was still learning the alphabet.

2 points.

Micky malthouse has arguably s*** the bed in leaving his last 2 clubs in tatters

Pies still paying $5.50 on sportsbet for QB, but if a loyal dee fan like me the +32.5 at the line is tasty

Adelaide were paying $6

I don't mind listening to Buckley speak and have felt he'd be great in the media for years.
The points you've made are quite valid regarding covid and the uncertainty of scheduling.
Why would you wanna go through all that BS, work 11 and half months of the year and get grilled by the media parasites twice a week when you can kick back for 6mths of the year and do special comments for 2hrs twice a week for the other 6mths.

Yep and i'm also now wondering if, after having listened extensively to the direction this present board saw things heading in a list management / FD sense over the next 3 to 5 years, whether Buckley considered it as just not where he would have liked to have taken things.  You're taking the High road and you are welcome to it!

In that case never the twain were going to meet and wasn't going to end well.  Didn't want to sit around waiting for the ideal outcome re a send off.  Pull the pin, make a clean break and as you say Fork, enjoy the after life with a whole lot less stress for the remainder of the season.

Handball the mess to Harvey et al and wash his hands of the future outcomes and change of direction (and substantial differences??) the Board had mooted in their discussions.

Personally, I don’t like the whole “Let’s do it for (insert name)” as it puts undue extra pressure on the players. When Jimmy Stynes passed away all you’d hear is Let’s do it for Stynesie! The next game we played, we lost. I can’t imagine how much worse this made the players feel. ?

Talking about putting players under pressure, I remember on 'Bob', (Murphy IV Nathan Fyfe YT, Part 2 12min in), Fyfe says that in team huddles, players would put it all the line and say stuff like "if you don't give a 100% effort your family is dead". Further stated it had to be used sparingly as you run out of brothers and sisters...

You can understand the lobbying to partially or fully remove the head coach salary from the soft cap that has been going on recently.

I remember Daniher’s last game as coach for us, the players looked completely off the boil and distracted. They came good but we had to play catch up. I also remember the Bombers getting some horrendous decisions go their way that won the game for them. Neitz looked completely gutted at the end of the game, I was genuinely shedding a tear as they walked off.

I just don’t understand why people rate Lyon. Everywhere he’s gone he hasn’t been able to get a premiership (has gone very close tho I’ll give him that) and seems to come with a lot of baggage.
Can’t see the hype.

Couldn't agree more @Jaded. Overrated, arrogant and blind to any way but his. Perfect fit for Collingwood.

Ross Lyon really should have won the premiership with the Saints but I agree, his legacy at both clubs seem to be long lasting in a bad way. I’d gladly see him go to the Pies as I think he’d be an awful fit from a Collingwood success perspective.

Ross Lyon is a list destroyer. Picks his favourites and gets the best out of them, but cannot develop any up and coming players to save himself. Would love him to go to the Filth.

Personally, I hope we pound them into the SCG turf and then the AUS cricket team can land short balls on the dust of their faces for years to come.

Have no mercy. One for the ages, please.

No-one is taking on Grundy's contract and De Goey's value will be at its lowest ebb at the moment (pending outcome of his court case as well)

Was it Gerry Humphris?

I'll throw a spanner..

If we lost Yze to a senior gig, would you take Buckley as a midfield coach?

I'd take Buckley in any role, in a heartbeat.

No [censored] way I would take Buckley on in any role. He is a dominant narrow minded individual who would clash with others.

why else would he break up a young premiership team just to prove he can do it his way

a gun player and decent bloke but I would go near him

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
