On the AFL web site i watched a clip from the game and they said Sparrow could be on report.

Did any one else see it and if so do think he could be in trouble?

Rich flopped bigtime. Looked like Sparrow got him in the chest and he went down holding his jaw. Pathetic.

Welcome to Skuit's random post-match thought-bubbles.

It's nice to support a real football team. I'm so (expletive) proud of the boys tonight. But it's a bizarre feeling though that after so many years supporting the MFC in the wilderness that my pride in the team now has a fatherly quality.

Have loved Pickett's dressage approach for set-shots all season. Disappointed that BT expressed a similar sentiment tonight before I put it on public record. Yet, I still have time to claim that May's body posture resembles one of the Rolling Stones.

Paging @demonstone

Eric Hipwood reminds me of what Sam Weideman hasn't been able to achieve. We were literally out-marked in the first half, with Brisbane beating us by first hitting up marking targets at half-forward to negate our usual defensive dominance.

I was the lone MFC supporter in the venue tonight. A Brisbane guy said it probably wasn't what I was used to coming from Melbourne, before I told him I wasn't from from Melbourne, and then realised I've spent most of my life as the lone MFC supporter.

Although, if I wasn't a Melbourne supporter, I would probably have an even greater appreciation for how good Oliver and Trac truly are, even though I already think they are two of our best if not greatest ever mid-fielders.

I bet large on Melbourne for $6.50 at 40+ (gamble responsibly or not at all), and despite the beautiful gritty win I'm getting concerned that we don't have a kill mentality. Started the exact same thread in 2017 and was ridiculed, until . . .

@Skuit, we've had the kill mentality in 11 of our games... the pressure is not as overt as scoreboard pressure (but 4 goals up with 8min to go is pretty good)....

I believe McCartney called some of the midfielders 'glass munchers' - this now seems to apply to to the rest of the team and how they absorb pressure and re-distribute it.

Leadership!  Leadership! Leadership!

At the start of the year I had my doubts!

I was wrong!

We have it in spades. across all lines, and in the coaches box!

Great win! I’ll really enjoy the office banter on Monday!

my best mate (kiwi - rugby mad) has been watching games with me of late, at half time he asked if we were a decent chance, I said yes we finish games strong and we cannot play any worse.  He loaded up on the Dee’s under 2 conditions from me 1) he buys 1 x memberships 2) buys a jersey (would be 4xl) if we win.  We shook on it, ladies and gentlemen we have our newest member haha!

As I predicted would happen, we lost the centre square clearnces and won the around the ground stoppage clearnces.

Thought of you when @binman when your man Swallow put one through from 50 in the last ????

Starting to hear that every week.

Both James Brayshaw and of course Brian Taylor tried to make it to be something?

Chris Johnson's comments were no better either. Would have loved to have heard him talk about Zorko's effort.

In slow mo I don't think nk Sparrow connected with Rich's head but he threw his head back and staged for a free.In the third quarter when Tom cleanly out marked Rich he was indicating to the ump Tom held his arm. Brisbane are a slow ageing team that stall when the pace is on. Just like Geelong did to them last year and the same the year before in the finals. A lot of old blokes in that team

Sparrow on Rich??? How about some interest in Hipwood on Gawn 10 seconds in, then!!

Can someone go and get my lid? It flew off about an hour ago and went outside my 10km!

I need it back because I don't know how to deal with MFC 2021? ???

Watching the second half again now.

The midfield finally stepped the [censored] up which caused Brisbane to rush kicks forward allowing our backs to take control.
We rebounded hard, linked up and as the game opened up, it allowed us to kick forward to an uncrowded forward line.
Game over.

Right now I am in unfamiliar territory with this win loss ratio, so don’t know what to do with myself. I love it. Go you Demons.

The more times Charlie gets the ball the better we are - he creates, he is smart, he rarely if ever wastes a possession. The great thing is he is getting it more and the team is better for it

At half time I said we looked flat and I was a bit worried

after half time we were back to the team that moved the ball with fast hands and connected with forwards - half way through the third Brisbane looked fatigued and despite the closeness of the scores I felt reasonably relaxed that they were completely on top

such a weird feeling !

so many players lifted a gear it was great to watch

it was the first time I’d seen Trent Rivers play live - kid can play

It was really two games in one with the first half looking way off with no defending, no hard ball and dirty possession. Full credit to the people that didn’t lose faith but gee I thought the Lions could have been further ahead with the smacking we were getting in the stats department. After half time we came out ready to work and ready to get the game on our terms. I’m now looking at this team as one that can have a poor half but if are in striking distance can get it done.

Oir backline struggled hard in the first half but the light switch flicked in the second and our structures were suddenly bang on again. The moment we can get a team to play slow and get some doubt in their minds that’s when we got them.

My god we had some bog ordinary performances in the first half. Not going to pot any of them directly but we were really carrying a lot. Output really lifted across the board and honestly how safe do you feel when the ball is in Rivers’ hands!

Thought Max was sensational tonight and really got us going with some key clearances of his own. Clarry really came through in the end, I did have money on him to get 10 disposals in the first quarter which didn’t happen but who cares. Tmac was a man possessed and a man ready to take opportunities as they came. His set shooting was a little off but again, who cares.

Then there’s Petracca....

This guy, REALLY got us going. 16 contested possessions, 6 tackles and 2 goals which reallly should have been 3. This guy is just.... yeah.

Spargo hardly ever misses with his kicks, he is a smart kick as well as a good kick.

Kozzie Pickett what a spark machine, also got us going.  Thought May also took some telling marks which really helped.

pretty tired, might finish on this tomorrow. Love you all. @DemonOX thoughts are with you. Hope tonight made things just that little bit more bearable.

Will be back tomorrow. So tired but I do love a good UFO show so I’m gonna enjoy this Ch7 offering before bed. Laters!

Ha! Perhaps. But we caaaaan play 4 HUGE quarters if we want to.

Mostly I’m just excited about the 4th. Knowing we have such formidable tanks makes so much difference to my blood pressure readings at the 3/4 time break.

One-on-one he doesn't lose.

His tackles stick.

Great kick on the run.

Amazing work ethic.

Epitome of team first.

(We are talking Spargo here!)

I don't know who it was, might have been Chris Johnson said Zorko just cliped Macca a little bit too high?

Just home from the game and now watching the replay. We just wont give up. Really good crowd apart from the [censored] Bears supporter near us, who went missing in the second half, must have had a flight home. Could dish it but not take it.

I just love this team and back next week! Sadly not at our fortress, Giant stadium. Go Dees.

Sounds a bit like they are playing a bit of 'bruise free' footy up there at the Lions these days? ?‍♀️

Smacked(!) of Yates on Brereton 1989, particularly against the backdrop of their targetting of Max last year (he rose WAY above it though, this time!)

Reckon the team know it too.
They try to give it to him.

It's a bird, it's a plane, no it's the 55 year lid of the Melbourne fc that just flew past?

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • POSTGAME: Geelong

The Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, falling to 0–4 after a more spirited showing against the Cats at Kardinia Park. Despite the improved effort, they went down by 39 points, and the road ahead is looking increasingly grim.
