I just love my footy club.  Finally, I can say it with pride and real belief.  Dad, I hope we can do it for you.  If we do, I'll make sure the fridge is stocked with Abbotsford lager.  By the way, can you please have a word with the big fella up there, to make sure he smiles upon us for the rest of the year and tell him to have a word to Norm and let him know it is ok to let go of the curse..... finally

From the Bulldog Bigfooty. Sounds like a reasonable doggie:

Melbourne were absolutely first rate. That was a benchmark win and kudos to them.

We aren’t that far away though and I’d really love to see us go round 2 against them with Dunkley and Treloar back in the team. They might still roll us though. Reminded me of Geelong at their best. Hard and skilled and Gawn is a deadset superhero.

In the end we probably could have won by more. Some ump decisions kept Dogs closer than they should have been.

And the Bont’s a great player but was shown up tonight. You wouldn’t know it though by the 7 commentary with Richo surprisingly the worst offender.

But I no complain. Go Dees!!

In my best BT impression,

"Gee they could have used the Bont the tonight."

Take a bow James Harmes, finally back to being the tagger he is meant to be!

Back to his 2019 form ....Statistically 2nd best for the year that season.

I would love to see us play them at the G with Viney. See ya in September.

Said the same to my wife after the game.  Dad and I had reserved seats, gf tix etc for 22 years together and whilst a premiership will be the best I’ll always regret we never got to share one together.

Lol loved how we dropped one game by one point last week and the people suggesting that our season was over.

A great win. All game we never look threatened and led all night. Clarry, Harmes, Sparrow, what can I say? Brilliant. Gawn improving too.

A lazy last quarter where we only scored one point, but a great game to watch. We proved we can beat the top teams. Bring on Brisbane.

Surely Footscray are no longer premiership favourites. Top of the ladder back where we belong ??

Some of us know Pennant. My only post on the game day thread was stop Libba and we are a chance and Harmes was the obvious one. Thought Harmes was great.

Yes Redleg Harmes was excellent thought the Demonland whipping boy Melksham did some good work on Macrae the first half

Only one goal between Pickett, ANB and Spargo but all were superb tonight.

Immense pressure from start to finish.

All contributed - interestingly I thought that it was far from Jackson's best game ... didn't do much in the ruck ... but he will be back.

I don’t think Langdon being subbed out was for [censored] and giggles, the doctor has to believe the player has an injury that will rule him out for the next 12 days, if the player recovers before that he can play, but only “IF” the AFL sign off on the player playing. The doctor also has to write a medical certificate for the player by the next working day and submit it to the AFL. A stupid risk to take for [censored] and giggles. ??‍♂️

Surely it would be just plain stupid to roll the dice using. a medical sub in the last 5 minutes when the game was over ... could have rested him just with a rotation (assuming any remaining).

This is such a great feeling! And it goes well with a few single malts! Just need to find the right woman and that’s the set completed.

It was the role players who did it for me tonight.

Spargo, ANB, Petty, Harmes, Brayshaw all take a bloody bow.

Yeah but it’s the CLUB doctor. Not an independent one.

Yes, but still a Doctor, I assume that they could get in trouble from the medical board if it was found out they signed off for sh1ts and giggles? We know clubs bend the rule, I just wouldn’t want to give the AFL a chance to rule that we breached it and not allow Langdon to play next week if he’s not injured, especially considering it was only for the last minute, Sparrow didn’t even touch the ball. I really don’t trust the AFL when it comes to us. ?

Ahhh Goodwin and his belief of winning from the contest out is the game style that only stacks up in finals...

Plan A.

Yet another brilliantly planned coaching performance. Time to extend his contract

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.

After five consecutive defeats, the Demons have now notched up back-to-back victories, comfortably accounting for the Tigers in the traditional ANZAC Eve clash. They surged to a commanding 44-point lead early in the final quarter before easing off the pedal, resting skipper Max Gawn and conceding the last four goals of the game to close out a solid 20-point win.
