Reading most of this you'd think we are losing due to mistakes. We're up by 19 points and outplaying them all over the park. We're WINNING - come on, how about some love and admiration for a great first half!

I feel like we have controlled the game for all but 10-15 minutes but those minutes cost us goals and the Dogs are so quick at kicking goals! Let’s hope for a big second half here!

5 mark attempts, has crashed packs... 5 could have stuck another night. Takes a forward from TMAC.... a range of things he is doing that doesn't quite count on the stats sheet...

Your joking right

I think you’re being pretty generous suggesting that five dropped marks is a good thing.

How good do we have to play to get the plaudits on here?

 Gives me the tom t1ts.

Think we’re doing a great job, taking the game on, structuring up well and our tactics have been brilliant with Harmes and Spargo’s negating roles. We’re playing a brilliant side But I would hate to think we’ve thrown everything we have at them so they can just slip us. Sometimes you just have to take the chances when they’re there. Because if not successful we won’t be looking back and thinking about how good we thought we were in that first half. To beat an elite side like this on their home deck you’ve almost got to perform flawlessly. Harsh but true.

How bad are these deliberate calls

Both have been terrible calls, the last one in particular, Chamberlin is a xxxx.

Weideman 1 handball to half time. You must be joking. Pity the dogs if we ever get our passengers going. Start polishing your boots for next week Ben

Weid has got to 7-8 contests and dropped the mark.   He has just to nail a few.  I think he’s getting frustrated at his fumbles.  Unless you mark, your life as a key forward is limited.

Unless he removes the digit in the second half it may be time to Zero the Weed..

Great first half. We've shown an inability all year to put teams out of contention so nothing has really changed. We need to be 4 -5 goals up at 3/4 time otherwise I'm getting Adelaide vibes.

Weid could have had a massive night, getting to the right spots they are just not sticking.

Finals are won by ruthless teams who go at 100 for the whole game. 10-15 minutes of dropping off can and has cost teams finals and premierships.
Gotta get better at choking up oppositions.
But I acknowledge the Dogs are very good at Marvel and they are one of the few sides who can punish you severely in the space of minutes.

We need more from Langdon and Salem.

Yes good point we have hardly seen Langdon, not sure why but this game is a tad different with the lack of midfield contesting, it’s been a bit like a basketball match, all attack/defence, no midfield contest, so Langdon is being bypassed.

You want to be in the big league Sam?
Perform or it’s three strikes you’re out.

I too would have loved to see BB out there tonight.  English and TMac are showing that if you hold your marks you then go back and kick goals.  Weid has one mark on the wing and a tackle.

C’mon mate you need to lift in the second half.

It's not just the marking it's the lack of smarts.  Going up with Jackson in the goal square.  Ok, hang off and protect a bit of space so he gets coverage to mark.  Or just compete without marking to do same.  Then the same on the wing about 15 in to that quarter coming from behind against LJ again.  Does he even think about what he's doing outside of lead/mark type play?

Would want to have a very good second half with at least two goals to continue on from here.

Melk also very Flakey.  Like Dazzle i'm not sure what Hunt's role is?

LJ needs to lift, if not in the air up forward and around the ground....at least on the ground.  Usually pretty good at the latter but gone missing tonight so far.

Very well said.

Macrae is up for another 40-45 possies, but there’s more than just him we need to counter.

Dogs are a bloody good team. We can’t rest up for 5 minutes, and we need to be accurate to win this one.

Hes done a couple but your being generous. No matter who is on him He MUST score.

He needs to hold a mark first and to be honest he really hasn't held them properly in the NEAFL

We are not flawless. We cover each others flaws, and we play the best team footy Ive seen all year. Back us in. Its absolutely torrid but because of loss of crowds It can not look that way. Im thinking it will get closer but then 10 minutes into the last we put the foot down.

Lyon is such a [censored]. There's no pleasing him. We're apparently not winning due to pressure, but because the dogs are off and 'spooked'. What the hell?

Maybe spooked because of our pressure?!

I swear, when we're holding up the cup, I hope he is watching from the stands.

Agree. wtf was he thinking. 50 seconds left at CHF and he starts to slow it down before getting called to play on and turning it over. He needs to lift and his dumb [censored] footy IQ is doing my head in. Lift! And English is killing you.

  • REPORT: Richmond

The fans who turned up to the MCG for Melbourne’s Anzac Day Eve clash against Richmond would have been disappointed if they turned up to see a great spectacle. As much as this was a night for the 71,635 in attendance to commemorate heroes of the nation’s past wars, it was also a time for the Melbourne Football Club to consolidate upon its first win after a horrific start to the 2025 season. On this basis, despite the fact that it was an uninspiring and dour struggle for most of its 100 minutes, the night will be one for the fans to remember. They certainly got value out of the pre match activity honouring those who fought for their country. The MCG and the lights of the city as backdrop was made for nights such as these and, in my view, we received a more inspirational ceremony of Anzac culture than others both here and elsewhere around the country.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
