Dr Drivel. Brayshaw forced out of the middle? A fringe player? Cut our losses and get a second rounder? For his sake? Ummm, no.

Time for you to move on from 2018 and embrace what is actually going on at the club.

Brayshaw as a wingman is a critical component of our team, particularly with his defensive running and brave plugging of gaps (both on the ground and in the air). And he’s only going to get better in that position the longer he’s a member of the Ed Langdon Wing Club, learning from one of the best in the business and appearing to be loving it. He ain’t goin’ anywhere. One of the first picked in the side at the moment (along with our 8 or 9 All Australians!).

Well put Ben E

Angus just has to tidy up some disposal brain fades and he is a strength on the members side if the he ground.

Love the way he supports the defence and he could do some elite passing to leading forwards to give us more shots on goal.

Surely after last game bbb goes before sw.

I cant see them playing all of them unless we lose another tall defender and Tmac goes back which Goody said wont happen.

He also said that Sams future is secure at the Mfc. Barring injuries Im not sure most of us can understand how it all pans out.

Tmac is one of thee best forwards going about at the minute but I must say the times he has dropped back in defence he has been just as good and reminded us how good he used to be in that role.

Just maybe given Tommy has lost weight and gained speed it might.... just might I say  be worth a trial with Tom on the wing.

At least then we can see of they all fit and work. Thats all. Just maybe.?

Why upset the wing  (Angus) now just to move our best big forward out of the forward line

How illogical to switch deck chairs when it's not necessary !

Agree that BBB was ordinary against Carlton but he did kick 3 goals against a more difficult opponent in the Swans..Not sure Weideman would have.

Adelaide forecast for 4pm Saturday

19°, light winds, 0% chance of rain. Could go (very) tall?

Part of.the reason we are winning is we are one of the best pressure teams going around.

We.may still win going tall but personally if you do you risk losing a fair chunk of this asset IMV.

BB & Weid already bring very little of this at ground level.

Experimenting too much might tip us over the edge in coming weeks and the Doggies loom large the week after travelling.

As they say..."When you're on a good thing"...

Don't flirt with form

Couple of posts here toying with the idea of leaving Max off the plane trip, for 'management' leading into 'The Fortnight', and I add mine (though his latest - positive and insightful - media offering would make that look a little awkward...)

I'm also attracted to the idea of Jackson, as a 6'6" Barassi, in for Chandler.

I wonder how they'd manage to do that.

58er can’t say we exactly choked on our cornflakes this morning. But there was a slight mutual heart flutter felt when you mentioned  the phrase “switch deck chairs”!

Agree with your premise that Angus should remain on the wing and understand the context of your argument.

But surely you did not mean to associate the Demon’s so far stellar season with the voyage of the Titanic?

The image of a majestic steamer (SS MFC) confidently sailing through the ocean until an unforeseen hazard suddenly strikes is something most Demon faithful would not wish to contemplate.

Fortunately we have BOM and the weather radar and the forecast for Adelaide looks good. No icebergs in sight!

Fingers crossed and trust in Captain Max and the crew to navigate us safely and successfully through our voyage (season).

It's a real shame that Jack doesn't look like he will be ready for that Bulldogs game.

I think Jacko straight in and Weid out.  Will find out soon enough I guess.

Is this the first game we have played in dry conditions all season?

Jackson for chandler as he can play as an onballer

BB has had 3 runs at it and isn't convincing, why wouldn't you rather see more than a week from the weed? I would like to think we are past the days of bringing key players in for one week only, only to drop them

I know I just dont want to lose sw or bbb and how do we know Tmac is our best without trialling someone else. What we do know of all three Tmac is the one who can play up the ground.

Are we back to a normal world where all teams are named tonight?

I see the dogs coach is complaint about it. Thank God we don't do everything they want.

I said at the start of the year that i could se it working having all of Brown, Tmac, Weed and Jackson (and Fritter) in the same team - but did make the point it was unlikely the club would run all four.

My thinking was that Jackson could play as high half forward, essential a medium, such is his agility, pace, skills and ability to win ground balls.  In that role it would be similar to the role Melksham played. So it remains the 3 talls.

Tmac could also play as high half forward, which is essentially the role he is playing now.

However for that mix to work my thought was that Brown and in particular Weed would have to apply really high levels of pressure. And Brown doesn't seem agile enough to and unfortunately Weed doesn't seem keen to, as evidenced by zero inside 50 tackles last week (and rubbish pressure rating).

But if they are ever going to try playing Brown, Tmac, Weed and Jackson (and Fritter) in the same team, this is the week to do it. So selection will be fascinating at 6pm tonight.

How good is selection being back to tonight!

I reckon no change. Going conservative on Jackson.

Chandler deserves a couple of games.

Like Chandler but this move makes sense.

Ben Brown Out. Jackson In. Give Chandler 1 more week to show what he can do.

Weideman looked more likely to take a grab than Brown last week and also offers more when it hits the deck. Whilst it shouldn't dictate selection - I'm concerned that dropping Weideman after one game plays into the hands of other clubs that will be trying to convince him to switch clubs at year-end.

Play your principles, not your fears.

I'm with you Mono. No change. Give Jacko an extra week to fully recover from his finger injury and he will be cherry right for Dogs, Lions and Pies then gets another rest. Let the Weid and BB have another game together and Chandler to stay also and hopefully show us what's he got against Crows. Then we have massive decisions for Dogs game.

Preusmably we fly over Saturday morning.

Not ideal but that's the way these days.

If the same rule applies for the interstate clubs bar WA it must be hard for them.

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?
