I thought Melksham had one more chance as we were winning but no good pick on form which is always a good thing hope Chandler and Weid take it with both hands.

I do like Melksham as a down hill skier, he has a level of polish in swift ball movements that isn't replicated by many. 2018 Finals, his Hawthorn goal off 2 steps and the kick to release Hannan. Those efforts are priceless.

But given the increasing strength around him, good to see him forced out on form

Speaking of downhill skiers... it snowed today people!!! ⛷⛷⛷

Wow, Melky out, playing a role but not quite enough impact, though I thought he was improving over the weeks. Could be the med sub.

Great for Chandler to get a chance, would like to see him hit the scoreboard early and get the confidence going.

Jackson out will cause a disruption, hope we can adjust. I assume Gawn will take the majority of the game on the ball.

C'mon Dees get the clearances, hold our marks, have crumbers and kick goals with greater accuracy.

Go Dees!

Will depend on his whole game rather than stats - if he gets double teamed all day and finishes with 4 touches but allows Brown/Tmac/Fritta get off the chain he'll hold his place!

Nothing to fear from Carlton's changes:

Out: Jack Newnes, Michael Gibbons, Jack Silvagni

In: Marc Murphy, Will Setterfield, Nic Newman.

Cripps will probably put in a blinder as he did a few weeks back when the media put the blowtorch on him.  Harmes to take care of him.  May will take care of McKay, if the ball even gets down there.  A dark horse is their ruckman, Pittonet.  Last year he really lifted and was the reason they got back into the game and nearly won.  Max needs to be on the ball and dominate.  Hibberd to keep Eddie quiet.

There will be a day when we lose but I don't think it will be tomorrow.

Was incredible, an awesome response to one of Gawn's all time most dominant quarters.

Always think Melky is good for a goal or two or at least a few goal assists with the penetration in his kicking. But fair enough, I like Chandler and it looks a better balanced forward line with this change.

On a side note - refreshing and good to to see the team named how it lines up on the day. Why play games. Must have been Choco’s idea.

I’m hoping that Melk being dropped might quieten those who seem convinced Goodwin favours his selection. TBH - I’ve defended the selection of Melksham but mainly in terms of not being our worst and that Goody is not Gody at selection. I neither love or hate him.

What it does suggest to me is that one of his attributes - being an occasional marking target in F50 - is not needed with Weid in the team. Dees more than ever need genuine crumbers at the feet of BB and SW, which Chandler will provide.

I like this decision as one of the concerns with Jackson out is we lose a tall who is a genuine gun below his knees. Chandler balances this a bit.

I’m excited for tomorrow, wish I could be at the game.

go Dees!!!

Agreed. Jack Silvagni usually plays well against us as well so glad he's out.

interesting selections, i don't rate Newnes, but he is a better chance of being able to go with Langdon than Setterfield.

Have not been a fan of Jake M but I did not expect him to be dropped.

Full credit to Goody.

Great ins.

And the thuggish Petrevki-Seaton isn't playing so expecting a 'bruise-free' Carlton. He, he.

Would Weed offer more or less to the team than Melksham at the moment?

Would rather see Chandler get a run at it for Melk vs Weid ...mostly for team balance up forward and see how he goes in general, especially with pressure inside 50.

I like this team.

TMac to have a lot more movement up the ground and to be fill in ruck.

With Chandler in the team I can see Spargo playing a bit more expended role a little further up the ground as I believe Chandler is a natural closer to goal. The other option is to have Pickett play in middle a little more.

Who thought we’d ever be talking about us like that after the decade and a half of deesaster

The AFL website has a headline "Star Dee Dumped".

And they're talking about Melksham!

Have far down the list is he when you talk about Dee Stars?

A team win is the pass mark

Nasher is going to have to break the news to Goody that he's just a standard Demonland group think Melksham hater...

Love the inclusion of serial bridesmaid Chandler, regardless of it coming at the expense of Demonland enemy number one.

Big Chandler fan. Hope he smashes some tackles, has quick hands, snags a couple and keeps his spot.

Good luck to the young fella!

Agree. He has shown enough at Casey for his chance.

Jake might have had a tough week with the newborn coming home.  Might be a chance for him to get 2 hours sleep on the bench. ??

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

Facing the very real and daunting prospect of starting the season with five straight losses, the Demons head to South Australia for the annual Gather Round, where they’ll take on the Bombers in search of their first win of the year. Who comes in, and who comes out?

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

The Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, falling to 0–4 after a more spirited showing against the Cats at Kardinia Park. Despite the improved effort, they went down by 39 points, and the road ahead is looking increasingly grim.
