  1. Happy 85th birthday Ron Barassi! I haven't seen him or heard of him for quite a while. Does anyone know how he's travelling?
  2. What happened to all of last year's scarves? I couldn't get to my local collection point and they quickly ran out anyway apparently. Does the club have them stored? I'd like to get one, as do some Demon mates.
  3. Blair only played a dozen games for Melbourne in 1969 after crossing from Richmond. I think his career was curtailed by bad knees. He was a short, chunky rover and sticks in my memory for a couple of reasons. He kicked goals from difficult angles using the banana kick. If he didn't invent the banana kick, he was certainly the first to use it consistently in the 60's. Blair was also a useful cricketer, bowling left arm wrist spin for Victoria. I remember him in a last wicket stand with Alan "Froggy" Thomson. Both of them couldn't bat but they put together a good and entertainin
  4. A fellow long time Demon supporter told me Hassa turned 80 on Wednesday. What a great player he was! Premiership player, club captain, state representative, member of The Galahs and MFC team of the century. Then, later in his career, after success as a playing coach in the West he returned to the club in administration. As an aside, why did our players go to WA? Big Bob Johnson and dashing half back also left us with plenty of games left in them, as did Hassa. Were we so arrogant in those days we'd say "we don't need you, we'll win without you?" Does anyone remember Hassa'
  5. Max may well get the lion's share of the hit outs like last week. But the opposition soon starts roving to him and get the clearances. Our mid fielders and Max need to adjust to this to take advantage of his hit out domination.
  6. May has only played about 8 for us. This was his first poor one. He's good. Forgive him one bad one. Nibbler played his best ever quarter for us. Disappeared after that though.
  7. I seem to remember he donated $5,000 in the drive to help get the club out of financial trouble. Then he went to Carlton. Erratic behaviour.
  8. What is it with the WCE? Ex players in trouble so frequently. Cuzz Kerr Mainwaring Gardiner Chick ... and now Laidley
  9. how many ads? Wilson, always held the ball too long Alan Johnson, terrific player Duursma pretty good Jimmy shows his talent Strawbs no good even before injured why did we clear Spalding to Carlton?
  10. Chris Aitken High Flying full forward late 60's plagued by ankle problems. Older brother of Wilbur Wilde
  11. Back to The Ox and Marko, I see The Rothfield family end up with an 11% ownership of the company controlling SEN. Now who is replacing the Run Home Team?
  12. Talking through your pocket dee-eee?
  13. Viney can not be considered a Grade A player as he has no right side and the opposition now exploits this, leaving him with nowhere to go except straight into a tackle. I can't remember a left footer with no right side ever developing one. He seems to be doomed to be a limitted player. Use him as a tagger.
  14. If we thought he was so good, why were we happy to unload him to Richmond?
  15. I have nothing but respect for Jack and his perserverance. But what does he offer? No speed, no size, not in and under. I can't see where he fits in.
  16. Garland is no star, but what chance did he have against Daniher last week? He must have had a 2 foot reach advantage on Col. Roos didn't have a plan B and so its Garlands fault Daniher dominated. Frost out, Frost in. Confidence is starting to wain.
  17. I don't understand the "experience" comments re Lumumba.. All i've seen is him getting the ball, running with it and banging it it a mile in the air, On a slightly different matter, does anyone think think this this years scarf is a bit short?
  18. Nate Jones to have a great year. He battled under injuries last year but this this year now he is fit and with more elite mid-fielders in the Dees team, he'll be have a great year. For sure.
  19. Poor Couchy was a garbo, then a car salesman, then ran for parliament for The National Party. You couldn't accuse him of being a socail climber.
  20. Nice article on Steven Smith, http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-news/new-mcc-chief-steven-smith-has-some-regrets-over-his-200game-football-career-20150323-1m5vz1.html Terrific player Steve. One of the worst things I've seen on a footy field was Steve being carried off on a stretcher after a smash to the face from Leigh Matthews. Not the only demon to suffer that treatment.
  21. What I like about him is his ability to get possession, break clear and kick well into the forward line. Not bagging the valiant Nate Jones, but he often gets caught with the ball where Gus can open the game up and give the forwards a good crack at it.
  22. The "MFC" bit looks like a blatant clone of the Carlsum jumper's "CFC". But hopefully, all this PR will get some of the luke warm Dee supporters off the bench and going to games and joining up. Of course we need to win games to keep those supporters on board. Are we great or what in the off-season these days?
  23. What a great player Tassie was. He never kept Hudson goalless. I think Barry Richardon from the Tiges was the only one who managed that. My memories are of Brian Dixon running into space on the wing wing when Tassie was kicking out after a point and Tassie putting a 60 yard drop kick into his path. Also showing Max Walker the ropes when Max was starting out as a back pocket ruckman. Maybe Tom Mac can fill Tassie's boots.
  24. I know Leapster ... I known Titus .. I wish we were all so well connected.
  25. Brayshaw has to play mid-field. He is one of the few who can use speed and run straight into the forward line from the middle and break up the defence.
