Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I don't know about this one. When all of their mids are in, they are very difficult to stop.

They have issues behind the ball but that midfield is clearly the best/deepest in the comp and I'm nowhere near as confident as you that we're a better team.

More balanced maybe, but midfield strength is fair indicator of overall success.

I genuinely hope you're analysis is more accurate than mine.

"I think we can beat Melbourne, more on the law of averages, they are due for a loss and just fell in for a win vs the Swans IMO.
Brown and McDonald wont present the same problems as Bruce and Naughton plus Oliver is only half the player the Bont is and Cripps owes us a big one. Blues by 16 points, not because we are great but more because Melbourne are getting ahead of themselves, due for a loss and we can defend them better IMO"

The wet worries me. It killed off Fritta and Kozzie last week and I think we are much better suited to a dry track.

Carlton’s defence is not so bad. Weitering, Docherty and Saad are good players. If they bring Newman back after injury that will help too. Liam Jones is ok if he just concentrates on punching the ball away but often gets carried away with the belief that he is a footballer.

As an opposition coach, if you looked at a forward line containing Brown, Weideman, TMac, Fritsch, Kozzie and occasionally Trac, that’s a very serious concern. Carlton don’t have enough quality cattle to match up on all of those players who collectively are probably the most potent forward line in the comp. On Kozzie, I’d give him a few runs through the middle where it will be dryer than the flanks and pockets.

We’ll miss Jack Viney again unfortunately. He seems to loves these damp games at the ‘G.

One thing that continues to surprise me in opposition threads is how many opposition supporters don't rate Oliver as a player.  The kid is a jet!  There are plenty who do rate him but surely it has to be unanimous to anyone that's ever seen him play.

I'm not sure what to put it down to.

Doesn't kick goals. In fact he freezes like a deer in headlights when taking a set shot. It's embarrassing.

His best work is the clearance from a lightning fast handball. Not the laser kick to a leading forward that gets everyone's attention.

He was the perfect pickup for us because he filled a hole in the center with rare skills. Would take him over just about anyone else in the comp, Trac included.

Probably a few reasons why Oliver isn’t rated by oppo fans. Ollie wins balls in more clinches and that is not pretty to watch (unless you are one of us). He also does not kick that many goals, take contested marks or look flashy.

Clarry also handballs more than he kicks quite often under intense pressure. Although it looks ugly at times, he invariably hits a team mate with those “flukes” although we know it’s more to do with his uncanny ability.

Bont is a very good player but Clarry wins a lot more hard balls and IMO therefore more damaging.

Good point. I think I'm remembering the Roos years where there was a period where they kept beating us even thought we were the better team.

The quote you've taken was a response to us being a better side than the Western Bulldogs and I said I wasn't sure (sentence 1).

No reference to Carlton at all.

Man I wish their admins would do away with the eye killing black background. What are they, a geocities site? #amirite

Having said that, gee their supporters have assessed the situation quite even handedly, I think.

Jeez that thread quickly descended into an analysis of their list and not so much how they'll go this week.

Couple of times they pointed out we had a poor game against the swans and were very lucky to win,

I think that’s underestimating Sydney by a huge amount.   They played well,

A drunk Sydney supporter also yelled this out after the siren went at the G on Saturday night.

I don't get it. How can you be lucky to win a game of footy when you're leading for 85% of the game.

Wow that Geocities reference took me back - love all that.

Yeah I think that CFC supporters are heading towards that somewhat nihilist niche that MFC supporters have occupied for a while. Probably helps you to be even handed.

I can understand why. He wins the ball in contested situations and almost always handballs it off very quickly. Opposition fans often think he’s thrown it and crack the [censored] haha! When he’s playing poorly, he just plays hot potato and transfers the pressure to a mate carelessly. Thankfully he appears to be getting this out of his game now.
He’s also not damaging in the same way midfielders like Trac are. He rarely kicks goals, his set shots are embarrassingly poor, and he’s not known for great kicking inside 50 like Trac or Bont. He’s got less score assists than other elite mids basically.

Dont get me wrong, Clarry is my favorite player and one of the best midfielders I’ve ever seen pull on the red and blue. I can understand why he’s not rated as highly as other gun mids by oppo teams. It’s the same reason I think Cripps is vastly overrated; Not damaging or rounded enough as a midfielder to be classed as truly elite.

This used to be one of my favourite threads.  Reading how each successive team was going to belt us, and then enjoy the melts after.

Now, not only do large numbers of opposition supporters show us some respect, but many know far more about Melbourne than I know about their teams.

However, taking all things into account, I am a happier supporter now than i was then.

I would say the fact that he's only kicked 1 goal for the season. Everyone takes more notice of the mids that kick goals.

The mids that are being talked about this year are Petracca, Bont, Treloar and Mundy and one of the reasons for this is that they're kicking their 1 goal a game without fail.

Over on the Reddit AFL forum, Carlton fans are fuming at the news today that Patrick Cripps has been playing up to his neck in painkillers due to a fractured back which he’s been nursing throughout the entire season. Not sure how a story like this going public actually affects the club’s decisions, but is it possible they will succumb to the scorn of their fans, many of whom are wondering why the club is risking serious long term injury to its biggest star, in a year where such a risk just isn’t worth it.

I think this was a strategic leak to the press to prepare the fans for his omission from the squad.

I read somewhere that Carlton are the only team not to have lost by more than 5 goals since the start of 2020, plus they were all over the dogs for 3/4.  Their best is good but hopefully they can't sustain it and we run over them in the last like we did to the Hawks.

We slaughtered them earlier that year: 25.10 to 8.7.

It was the 6th game of the season. They was on top of the ladder, getting dizzy; made it 6 zip, the longest winning streak by the Demons since 2000.

    DEPTH CHARGE by Whispering Jack

The jubilation on the coach’s face as he danced a celebratory jig by the playing bench after the final siren sounded to record his team’s four-point victory over the Demons when the teams last met, said it all.    On that rainy Friday night at the Adelaide Oval, Ken Hinkley’s young midfield secured much more than four points on offer. The victory over one of the big dogs of the competition after a succession of wins over some of its lesser lights gave his team respect and validation fo

A FORK IN THE HAWK by George on the Outer

For too long in the past, Demon fans became habitually sick and tired of watching the Hawks hand out thrashings to their side.
