What's their equivalent of the snow 'Goffy'?

Are they all off to Daylesford for a weekend at the spa?

Maybe a nice winery tour?

Sounds very Hawthorn to me.

That should definitely come next, force them to do that trip down the highway. Watch Jeff crack the sooks then!

(As a little side point I think it’s complete bull that only certain clubs go down there. Richmond, Carlton, Essendon, and the Pies should be copping away matches there as

Agree completely. It's absolute garbage. That said, i do enjoy going down there.

Jeff going for his own version of the prison bar jumper distraction from the team being rubbish.

I view Eddie mouthing off about that as a way to build credit for an eventual return to the presidency. Not immediate, as the fallout over ‘Do Better’ and his lengthy record of casual racist behavior as well as the trade week fire sale are too raw, but I bet you that in the back of his mind, he’s planning a comeback.

Perhaps Jeff needs to take a leaf out of his own book as Premier and start selling off assets to fund the Hawks shortfalls. Their premiership cups will shortly be up on eBay, starting bids $1.

methinks he's reckoning on an afl commission position as opposed to filth presidency

This is why membership tallies mean absolutely nothing.  Hawks 80 odd thousands members but only 14,000 turn up to the game.  When we had these games we would get 15-20,000 with only 24-25,000 members.

Still remember one game, I think it was against Fremantle at Princess park, we would have had 5-6,000 people there.

He will want to tone his approach back from PR spin doctor/verbal street brawler to dignified statesman quick smart if that's the case. I also believe that his ego will not allow him to give up on Collingwood until he goes out on his defined terms.

I get that he has a right of response to criticism, but it's never just a collected and calm response with him. He has to nuke his opposition. His mate, Sam Newman, is of a similar caliber in that regard.

Even now he still is incapable of a) recognizing any area where he or Collingwood have been flat out or partially wrong, or if that position is clearly untenable he will then  b) unconvincingly accept blame, yet try to spin the situation to one where he and his interests come out on top. That he came out and said he shouldn't have said what he said at the 'Do Better' press conference verged on a minor miracle, and showed how dire a straights he was in.

And if he can't do either of those, his next objective is to discredit or belittle the party opposite. For recent examples, look at Sam McLure, Chad Cornes and Tony Jones. He took an overboard whack at PJ over his comments about the Collingwood coaching handover (though to be fair, I'm not sure PJ needed to make those comments). Part of the 'Do Better' report was also very specific in pointing out that the club had a reputation of backgrounding to the media about those who complained (ala Heritier Lumumba). I wonder who in the club had the most contacts in and a direct pipeline to the media at the time?

Furthermore, the bloke still talks like he is the president of the club when he appears on media street, and I believe that is deliberate. Korda, for the better if one is to remember what that club had become, has become the invisible man. Eddie knows this, and is trying to fill the vaccuum that Korda has created. Basically, he is acting like president in exile.

Wait a year or two. It will be at that time that the white hot indignation towards Eddie's 'Proud and Historic Day' brain fart will be superseded by other stories, and some in the media eco system will conveniently start putting out unsolicited fluff pieces and op eds about how Collingwood was so much more focused on success during Eddie's time, and that a cabal of politically correct, woke snowflakes forced him out.

The propaganda groundwork will have well and truly been laid for him to then come out and say he is back to galvanize Collingwood. ?

P.S. To make this clear at the start, this is my opinion, and not a statement of declarative fact.☺️

Needed to complete the sentence in the third paragraph about the minor miracle at the 'Do Better' presser.

but how many real members...

maybe 5k of three game Tasmania members, a stack of kids and of course a big load of contra members through their Tassie sponsorhip.

My guess is 40k full adult members and tbh after the last 30 plus years of success I can understand why they're not turning up to watch an ageing team go through its paces

Years ago I said Hawthorne would fall all great teams fall, the Hawks are no different, every said no not the Hawks they are different they are special, Clarkson is no super coach he is lucky, the Hawks had the benefits of the best  priority pick system ever, they had 4 straight years of PP, which was the core of their superside, let's see if he can build a great side with a normal system, without PP.

Jeepers ease up, that sounds ace to me. Bit of Tahbilk or Gapsted. Bit of massage at the Dinner Plain Onsen.

I would disagree on one point, yes Clarkson was lucky, all coaches are either lucky or unlucky depending on their squad during their tenure. But if you know his history he was driven to succeed in that role.  I think he would have taken any team to a GF given the time and development to do so.   He managed to build sustained success using all the tools a club can in the comp. whether people think its fair or not.

A supercoach  is a Hardwick who built his team through  the draft without any advantage  that other teams building don't have, if he is a super coach then he will drive the Hawks to be a  superpower again, i bet he won't

I think Clarkson also became a victim of his and his clubs own arrogance by trying to Moneyball it with broken players such as Scully, O’Meara, and Patton. When the champions retired/moved on he didn’t want to cliff to come so he kept topping up and it’s ended up being a part of their own demise.

Keep giving them Sunday 1pm games, let’s see how many turn up. My guess is their crowd figures will be about on par to our Bailey/Neeld years.

The AFL commission don't put up statues of their people

Collingwood FC do

Eddie's not going to waste his time on a joint where he can't get a statue

They wouldn't have him anyway. They know he'd spend all his time trying to rewrite history, to get Legend status for Lou Richards, things like that, and generally wouldn't keep his eye on the ball.

I don't think he'll ever come back, not that it won't be for lack of trying. Too many people there who remember life under the dictatorship.

If he ever did come back, it would be something like his return to The Footy Show. He'd lost a yard. Flat presentation, timing gone. A shadow of the one-time TV maestro.

Leaving political allegiances completely out of it, it's instructive that a male former Premier is attacked for his actions but a female former Premier is attacked for her appearance.

His no remorse, lack of awareness, I’m still the Pres approach on Footy Classified tells me otherwise. He’ll fun for it again, he talks and acts like he is still in charge… he has literally zero awareness and I’ve not seen anyone pull him up with a “Ed you do realise you are no longer associated with the club…”

I don't think he needs to, just wedge an arm up the back passage of his successor and carry on like nothing's changed.

In some ways, Korda has been his own man, albeit one who’s been much more low key.
He came out straight away and extended an unreserved apology to all Black former players if they felt discriminated against during their time at Collingwood (Lumumba included and especially). He also apologized for the trade week fiasco. I’m not sure that Eddie would have been fully behind either of those statements.
The definitive answer as to who’s really in charge will come when Eddie, in his self appointed role as spokesman for all things Collingwood, continues to pick more fights up to the point where Korda has to either tell him to pull his head in or retreat like a true weasel.

If he could do it all remotely I could see him putting his hand up for a potential Tassie presidency if they were to be given a future license. Similarly to Sheedy at GWS it would be polarising but have them in the conversation.

Nah you are reading too much into it my woke friend. Just making a contrast to the premier before Jeff.

Nothing in it. If I was focusing on her appearance I would and could have gone much harder.

Thanks

  • PREVIEW: Collingwood

Having convincingly defeated last year’s premier and decisively outplayed the runner-up with 8.2 in the final quarter, nothing epitomized the Melbourne Football Club’s performance more than its 1.12 final half, particularly the eight consecutive behinds in the last term, against a struggling St Kilda team in the midst of a dismal losing streak. Just when stability and consistency were anticipated within the Demon ranks, they delivered a quintessential performance marked by instability and ill-conceived decisions, with the most striking aspect being their inaccuracy in kicking for goal, which suggested a lack of preparation (instead of sleeping in their hotel in Alice, were they having a night on the turps) rather than a well-rested team. Let’s face it - this kicking disease that makes them look like raw amateurs is becoming a millstone around the team’s neck.

  • CASEY: Sydney

The Casey Demons were always expected to emerge victorious in their matchup against the lowly-ranked Sydney Swans at picturesque Tramway Oval, situated in the shadows of the SCG in Moore Park. They dominated the proceedings in the opening two and a half quarters of the game but had little to show for it. This was primarily due to their own sloppy errors in a low-standard game that produced a number of crowded mauls reminiscent of the rugby game popular in old Sydney Town. However, when the Swans tired, as teams often do when they turn games into ugly defensive contests, Casey lifted the standard of its own play and … it was off to the races. Not to nearby Randwick but to a different race with an objective of piling on goal after goal on the way to a mammoth victory. At the 25-minute mark of the third quarter, the Demons held a slender 14-point lead over the Swans, who are ahead on the ladder of only the previous week's opposition, the ailing Bullants. Forty minutes later, they had more than fully compensated for the sloppiness of their earlier play with a decisive 94-point victory, that culminated in a rousing finish which yielded thirteen unanswered goals. Kicks hit their targets, the ball found itself going through the middle and every player made a contribution.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

Hands up if you thought, like me, at half-time in yesterday’s game at TIO Traeger Park, Alice Springs that Melbourne’s disposal around the ground and, in particular, its kicking inaccuracy in front of the goals couldn’t get any worse. Well, it did. And what’s even more damning for the Melbourne Football Club is that the game against St Kilda and its resurgence from the bottomless pit of its miserable start to the season wasn’t just lost through poor conversion for goal but rather in the 15 minutes when the entire team went into a slumber and was mugged by the out-of-form Saints. Their six goals two behinds (one goal less than the Demons managed for the whole game) weaved a path of destruction from which they were unable to recover. Ross Lyon’s astute use of pressure to contain the situation once they had asserted their grip on the game, and Melbourne’s self-destructive wastefulness, assured that outcome. The old adage about the insanity of repeatedly doing something and expecting a different result, was out there. Two years ago, the score line in Melbourne’s loss to the Giants at this same ground was 5 goals 15 behinds - a ratio of one goal per four scoring shots - was perfectly replicated with yesterday’s 7 goals 21 behinds.
This has been going on for a while and opens up a number of questions. I’ll put forward a few that come to mind from this performance. The obvious first question is whether the club can find a suitable coach to instruct players on proper kicking techniques or is this a skill that can no longer be developed at this stage of the development of our playing group? Another concern is the team's ability to counter an opponent's dominance during a run on as exemplified by the Saints in the first quarter. Did the Demons underestimate their opponents, considering St Kilda's goals during this period were scored by relatively unknown forwards? Furthermore, given the modest attendance of 6,721 at TIO Traeger Park and the team's poor past performances at this venue, is it prudent to prioritize financial gain over potentially sacrificing valuable premiership points by relinquishing home ground advantage, notwithstanding the cultural significance of the team's connection to the Red Centre?
