If Weideman kicks a bag tomorrow he has to be an automatic replacement for Petty.

And where would you play him, half back?

Max needs a bit of a rev up I reckon. Hope the boys get around him and get him going.

Maxy definitely struggling again. He’s actually tapping to Swans mids!!!

Absolutely. Having another mare.

If we open up the forward 50 for BBB we will win by 6 goals plus

Leave him one out with the forward flankers streaming towards goal for a crumb

their backline is strong on the ground and in the contest - we need to clear it out!

Im sorry but 9 times as many centre clearances is an absolute disgrace.

Swans tackle count much higher too.

Come on Lever.. Rivers.. especially Hunt and Gus.get going for goodness sake.

Jackson shut down as is Fritta.

Goodsy needs to give them a serve re pressure.

Congrats Oliver...Spargo...Tmac... bbb...Max... May and Langdon.

But please make our tackles harder.

McDonald (back) + Wiedeman > McDonald forward + Petty

Petty isn't the future. He's not an AFL standard defender, no way known.

No VFL cos Swans can't travel down

Should be 4 goals up. We kicked well early but missed 2 soda set shots there and Tracc needs to nail those snaps if he is to be elite. Hopefully second half we get our goal kicking accuracy right.

Harmes has justified his selection

Pre-bandage Harmes was horrible. Poor decisions.

Post-bandage Harmes better. Perhaps the head bandage changed his mindset?

Bit in that.

Enjoyed the games of Harmes and Jordon so far. Harmes has justified his selection and Jordon continues to improve.

Benny Brown looks more of an aerial threat today compared to last week.

Dees by 30.

Once Harmes stopped trying to break every tackle he got better.

Jordon has been good, the cleanness of ball use will come with games and belief he has that few moments to compose before distribution.

Kicking efficiency at only 50 percent that quarter. Clean that up and we'll get somewhere.

He's gonna play in the backline?!?

Love you Max but your goal kicking stinks big time. U 2 trac.

Kozzie was in space with no one on him coming from behind on his right side.  No one within cooee...just off the bench maybe.

Doesn't usually happen unless 50 out or more but with Maxy on a pretty severe angle (for him) they might wanna consider dishing off to a better kick like Kozzie on the run in this situation.  Has to be a better percentage chance surely

ANB doing some nice things, Melk, loved that 1st goal when heat was on, Tmac work down the ground was key, he can go back but then the 1st goal was clutch. Lever jumping up and down with frustration was funny. So many moments in this game be still my beating heart. God bless Langdon. Benny doing exactly what we wanted. So many more comments for the end of game.

Also kudos/ hat tip to Longmire - he is scaring the crap out of me, Syd winning clearances, stalled our intercept marking and has numbers at the ball. That said how good are the Dee's didn't drop their bundle - thanks Goodwin!

Imagine not looking that good as a 21 year old, 12 game key defender.

There is 0% chance they drop him now. Show him some belief. He will deliver in the back half of the year.

Some of our so called stars need to lift to win this.Oliver has been so sloppy ,BB do more the weid is watching ,Lever get in front.Hibbo fantastic as is salo

Harmes can't even work out how far he's running

Mistake ridden performance.

Gosh Petty looks very shaky. Needs to significantly build up his strength.

Thought Harmes has been ok to good. Max a bit quiet again, though came into it a bit more during the second.

Quite a few have the fumbles.........calm down and play simple footy.

Petty’s having an absolute shocker. He started poorly but improved in the Hawthorn game so let’s see what the second half brings.

Should be 4 goals up after the dominance we had for the first 15 minutes of that quarter.

If the ground is as greasy as the aisles here, I’m not surprised the kicking efficiency is down. Few slipping as well.

Fritta has to get his [censored] together. He’s all over the shop.
Clearances. Clearances. Clearances. It’s the only way to get Sydney to stop riding our arses

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
