I hope she is ok, but it is a shame that she is not at work to see The Mighty Demons rise from the bowels of the Earth

She had such love for The MFC

Sorry to hear about her family issues but I hope she considers staying there.

I've never understood the hatred that people have for Caroline Wilson.

People pick on literally every person in the media.

Me either, I think she is the best football journalist by the length of the Nullabor Plain and has been for decades.

The hatred stems from lingering misogynist tendencies by the consuming public and because she doesn't pull any punches, it tends to ruffle some fragile egos. I've heard her speak several times at private functions and I have all the time in the world for her, highly intelligent, sharp-witted and not afraid to call anything out.

She fits into the same group as hutchy and purple.

Ambulance chasers.

At least some one like Robbo actually talks about the game and cares. They don’t.
And yes she chases the big stories etc etc

until it comes to Martin and the Tigers.

While I often think she makes up news and uses her hunch as “credible sources”, she has often been right about the MFC cause we have been a basket case.

Agree. The best in the business.

And not coincedentaly, a qualified journalist

When Caroline was growing up her father, the powerful and fearsome Ian "Octa" Wilson, was President of Richmond at a time when they were a very strong team and winning premierships (late 60s/early 70s) under Tommy Hafey.

She has always had excellent contacts in the footy world.  My only criticism of her is that I think she tends to overlook or downplay bad news stories concerning her beloved Tigers.

If it was my choice she would be back on Footy Classified ASAP and they would boot Eddie McGuire (not that that's going to happen). I just watched Wednesday's edition and the man has such an ego, talks all over everyone else, is patronising... I wouldn't mind if he had the expertise to match the bravado.

Surely you're kidding. Caro is a mile ahead of Robbo when it comes to footy journalism.

Rohan Connolly is the best, IMO.

I've always admired Caroline Wilson. I think she aggravates some by reporting without fear or favour. Inevitably, she will upset the supporters of every club because over the journey all of them will have done something stupid which she has uncovered.

However, I do believe she has one weakness and that is an inability to admit she might have been wrong. That's not a hanging offence, though.

I look forward to having her back on radio and TV.

Except when it comes to Richmond.

Shes a fraud.

It’s was more that he cares about the game and what happens on the field.
The other three I mentioned only care about what trouble footballers or clubs get themselves into.

She is leagues ahead of Robbo on brains and ability.

I like Rohan too.

My only problem with Caro is that she seems to have a bloodlust for clubs/players/stories that aren’t performing, on field and off, as if she’s seeking to accelerate or even revel in their demise. If fearlessness and accuracy are the pillars of journalism, then empathy should come next, if only to balance the bad news with some hope and relatability. As a person, she may have it in spades, as a journalist, I’m not sure we’ve ever seen it.

Isn't that her job though? She openly admits her role is not that of a match report writer. If footballers/administrators/boards are doing the wrong thing, you'd prefer it be swept under the carpet and not have them be held accountable? That's a big part of the role of journalists in all sectors.

I love that the media folk are also supporters, makes them human and more interesting.

much as Gary Lyon can annoy me, I love it when he’s talking passionately about what’s working for Melbourne and is genuinely excited.

An old school journalist who has good contacts and cultivates and maintains those relationships.

Reporting on rhe politics of football has it place, and is an important part of the reporting of football. Particularly as it relates to scrutinising the league and clubs.

As stakeholders fans need to know there are some checks in place. Which is a key role of the press.

And she has been the best at this for the better part of 30 odd years. Tough, uncompromising and writes well. In short good at her job.

And has to do that up against two of the most sexist, patriarchal, boys club work cultures in Australia - footy and journalism.

The problem now is that reporting on footy politics dominates the coverage game. And, is in turn dominated by ambulance chasers looking for 'scoops', clicks, and gotcha moments. And gossip. So much puerile gossip.

This new wave take the trump approach - flood the zone with [censored]. Some will stick, some will get traction some will prove to be correct.

But much will be bull [censored], which if actually called on it, the 'news breakers' will deflect and blame their source.

But they hardly ever get called on it. Because the flood the zone strategy is very effective. So much rubbish, so often mean there is no time to analyse, or question, just move onto the next bit of gossip.

There are a million examples. Tracc to pies just one recent one, which could well have been a strategic leak. Because a strategic leak is counted as a source these days. And never questioned.

There will 5 more such examples today. Four of which will relate to the pies.

And Caroline has to wade with the gossip mongers and amateurs in this zone flooded with [censored].

Must drive her spare.

Theres been times where I have watched footy classified and she's been bullied on that show due to her going against the grain that is the boys club mentality. I like that she doesn't back down and people would be surprised to learn that she has some really good contacts within clubs that actually trust her.

Say what you want, but she's a fine journalist.

She must be devastated she is missing the current Collingwood kefuffle. I'd imagine Buckley is happy not to have her on his tail at the moment. Look forward to seeing her back, hopefully in time to join the afray.

Talking of Melbourne footy commentators/fans, haven't heard from Schwartz lately.  He would be rapt about our 2021.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
