With Hogan starring for GWS today I was reminded of the long list of Fremantle Docker trade F Ups they've had over the years. They missed out or traded away players like Macleod and Hodge and they recently traded out Langdon to us, who looks like he'll make AA this year. Anyway, check out my Hogan/Neale/May graphic.216437955_ScreenShot2021-05-01at7_23_51pm.png.bd33248f9ac052f59fd38924c26b3d05.png

Jeff Farmer for Phil Gilbert  was a good one

Yeah, nobody at Melbourne wanted him to go, but his grandmother was ill and the club facilitated the trade for unders for considerate purposes.

I went to a game in Perth back in 2014 and Jeff spoke at the pre-game function. As at that time, his grandmother was still alive and kicking!

Jeff wanted to be a one club player and a MFC life member. Then he got a new manager, and within two weeks, he harboured a life long dream to play back in WA.

We got Farmer in the first place from Freo for Phil Gilbert.

Pick 1 (Hodge) for McPharlin & Croad then Croad went back to Hawks

Traded in Tarrant who went back to Pies

Check out the trades that happened when they were first admitted, Essendon did well out of it scoring Lloyd and Lucas for a packet of chips

Trading out Andrew McLeod for Chris Groom was pretty good too:

such a silly thread based on one trade which could easily have been a success but just didn't quite work out, do u forget they got pick 2 off the suns for lachie weller and used it on brayshaw jnr, that ain't bad going aye

Ok. My mistake. Still, something about the place doesn’t get the best out of many a player.

Yes Freo have been absolute shockers & probably cost themselves a flag. Their misses included Matty Lloyd, Scott Lucas, Jeff Farmer, Andrew Mcleod, Peter Bell. They also stuffed up with Croad, Sylvia, Bennell & Hogan.

Whether you trade or recruit directly its still part of recruiting. We received pick 23(Bernie Vince) as compensation so you could argue that technically it was a trade.

The point is Freo stuffed up again.

I’m in IT - you’re the kind of user that requests a software that is completely unnecessary for the thing you are trying to do, we try to tell you that you don’t need it and you should just do something more straightforward but of course we ‘are in IT’ so what would we know... and then you embarrass yourself and then I hear in the grapevine that it’s because I didn’t approve using a cloud solution based in Ukraine that the ‘minister really wanted to use’...

I might be working through some things here.

It took me moving out of IT before I realised how obtuse and unhelpful our IT department were. Don’t discount the possibility that you might be the problem.

Have a lovely day ?

We have a pretty checkered history of our own when it comes to recruitment so not sure we can point the finger.

They appear to have sorted out their recruiting now and have a fantastic crop of young talent at the moment in Brayshaw, Cerra, Serong etc. who will form the basis of a Top 4 side.

18 months ago this would have been us.  What we paid for lever and May?  Mitch Clarke? Lumumba?  TMac a multi year deal?  Etc.

it is all a gamble.  Each time you hope to improve your list.  No guarantees.  Dockers May have improved their list moving hogan on, if he didn’t fit the culture.  Look at how important system and culture are to us now.  Hard to judge.

ps- Collingwood would also be serious contenders by your metrics

I agree with what you are saying Re Langdon.  Dockers essentially accepted a future second Rd pick for Langdon, who was clearly a very good player for them at the time (somewhere up towards the top of their B&F from memory).

Compare that with two first Rd picks for Jake Lever.

I'd say that Lever and Langdon are quite comparable commodities with respects to their high calibre and impact on games.

We got Langdon for absolute peanuts.  Not that I'm complaining.

Mate, triggered.

I ain’t the problem; we always come with alternatives and explain the security concerns and I have analysts on tap if people need help working out what they need.

Still get a few nuffies telling me that I am stifling innovation because I won’t push the Cyber team to drop our proxies to allow them to use a dodgy tool run out of Europe...

So yeah, IT can be unhelpful, but not my front door.

Langdon has improved a lot for us too, at Freo he was a prolific runner and possession winner with a very dodgy kick, doubt anyone thought we would turn into the weapon he is now: big win for us

In that case, perhaps our historical kicking coaches are way better than this forum gives credit for and worked wounders over his first preseason for us, because his feild passing by foot has been pretty well on the mark since day for he's played for us.  His goal kicking has been a bit iffy in the past and does seem to be an area he has stepped it up a bit.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The match up of teams competing in our great Aussie game at its second highest level is a rarity for a work day Thursday morning but the blustery conditions that met the players at a windswept Casey Fields was something far more commonplace. They turned the opening stanza between the Casey Demons and a somewhat depleted Richmond VFL into a mess of fumbling unforced errors, spilt marks and wasted opportunities for both sides but they did set up a significant win for the home team which is exactly what transpired on this Anzac Day round opener. Casey opened up strong against the breeze with the first goal to Aidan Johnson, the Tigers quickly responded and the game degenerated into a defensive slog and the teams were level when the first siren sounded.
