taking the longer term view and putting to one side the top of the table clash there are some delicious matches to consider.

If you think we can make top 4 you want the least number of interstate teams in the four. (Unless we think we end 1 or 2 which I am far from thinking.)

On that basis we probably want Freo to beat the eagles and Port to beat Brisbane. (Of course Brisbane beating Port gives us one more game on Port and increases the chances of top 2)

Hell it's hard

As to the Tigers game I would love to go top but a Tiger loss gives us another game on them.

Swans beating Cats would be nice as well.

So with all those caveats...

Dogs

Pies (who cares)

Hawks (do we care)

Port

Swans

Us

Blues

Freo

Dogs ( just )

Gold Coast ( 1 point )

Giants

St Kilda

port ( a hard one )

Girlong

Us

Carlscum

Freo

Tonight’s game is the interesting one:  Are the Dogs going to put a marker into the Tigers, or will the Tigers show they are still in the main group of contenders.  Both sides with injuries.

Never seen a demons team at $1.01.

Reckon we softened up the Tiges last week and the doggies will capitalise this week. I think the Doggies will account for them pretty easily actually. 5-6 goal win in fact

Quite a few games can go either way this week. Who are you tipping?

Here's a good article on why the Saints aren't firing

Jack Steele, Brad Crouch, Bradley Hill and Seb Ross are all winners of AFL club best-and-fairest awards. Along with Zak Jones and Jack Billings they are all between 25 and 27. This is a group that should be close to the peak of its powers. And yet it is misfiring. The Age approached coaching staff from rival clubs - speaking this week on the condition of anonymity - in a bid to better understand where St Kilda are being let down....

A theme from the rival views espoused was that the Saints had been drawn towards the ball too much and not paying enough respect defensively to their opponents. While a lack of cohesion - Crouch is only four games into his St Kilda career - was identified as part of the explanation, there was also a suggestion that the Saints’ midfielders looked overly focused on themselves and not in playing their part in a system.

No different to us as Oliver, Petracca, Viney et al matured... but I guess the concern would be they are only 23-25 - not a further 2-4 years further along a career path.

To me it speaks of a lack of trust - trust in the game plan as well as trust in other players to commit to their own roles, which then lends itself to self-preservation and behaviours which are not beneficial to the team

(fight, flight or freeze)...

(move towards ball,  not running defensively, ball watching) respectively.

Ultimately - not playing their role.

Dogs first test tonight.... I think the way Richmond defend the G and their tall forwards will be too much for the dogs.

Well they were my choices and I often get 5 out of 9

Sure, a missed HTB in front of Tiger goal, but how in the world is that not 50 m against Riewoldt when called to “get up, let go” and just ignored it?

BT : The Bulldogs are the best defensive side and the the attacking team in the comp, that’s what the numbers tell us at the moment.

Whilst true he failed to mention that they’ve also played North and the Suns.

to my mind Richmond or half the side have lost the hunger. they are champions and know it. and only work hard enough every now and then.   They can be dangerous though

Lynch is getting ample opportunities but can't take advantage. Credit to Tomlinson for not even giving him a look in last week.

I know a Footscray loss tonight could see us go top on Sunday but geez it would be good to have Richmond miss finals.

Tiger Army gonna lynch Tom with kicking like that.

Its good they have Hannan and we have Kozzie.....

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
