While I was typing the post I had the vision of General Lever re-focussing the troops against Geelong in my head.
A telling moment IMO.

Strong defense wins games.

Manic, full ground TEAM defense wins finals. Big finals.

It appears that the entire list has woken up to this fact.

And for what its worth the only time I trusted the club was for the year 2000.
If we were down I was always confident we could come back.
We had Farmer, Neitz, Robbo, Uze and Schwarz.
All capaple of turning it on and kicking bags.

That was an incredible year.  Many people seem to forget though that we were struggling mid year with a few big injuries and had more losses than wins - I think we got belted by a rapant by a Kouta lead Carlton by about 100 points in early June before Farmer's 9 goal second half on Queens birthday  lit a spark in our season where we won every game from then on (bar a close loss to North) until the grand final.

Do you trust Melbourne?

What a ridiculous question.

Enjoy the wins, enjoy watching the development of players, the coming together of a winning team.

Enjoy each game, each win. Enjoy the moment.

Of course they will lose games, that’s footy, that’s life. They will have injuries, poor form, and physical and mental fatigue as the season progresses. They may have some bad losses. But we finally have a team that is winning games of footy and looks capable of winning more matches.

Who would have thought before the start of the season we would be  5 zip ?

It’s got nothing to do with trust.

Agree wholeheartedly.

I'd encourage all Dees fans to let go of the "trust" concept - just lap up the wins and enjoy supporting a side that actually looks *good* for the first time in a long time.

Q.  I've been silly enough to trust them when they have been flailing around as in 'a tidal rip, taking them out of their depth and in the wrong direction', so why would I not trust them now when they are on the 'crest of a wave'?

A.  I'm still silly.

I think people know that my answer will be 'No'. The club broke my trust mostly in 2019 and 2020. We had no excuses for not playing finals. And really no excuses for not playing top 4 with our list.

next 5 games:

v Rich (MCG)

v Nth Melb (Blunstone)

v Syd (MCG)

v Carlton (MCG)

v Adel (AO)

Even if we drop against Richmond, we could still easily go 9-1...

5 wins in a row don’t undo 5 decades of failure. You can’t cure MFCSS with anything other than a premiership

Covers it beautifully Jaded.

Not yet, but mainly because given the circumstances of the first 5 rounds, we really haven't played an oppisition of substance.  All our oppisitons have either had pre-exisitng significant injuries, injuries on the day (GWS) or just been simply a poor side or a side in really bad form.

Not the fault of the MFC, but it doesn mean I can't yet fully trust them.

So true. And how good would it be to beat a top 5 team like Richmond and then go 10-0!

Tidbit: we have only beaten five top 5 teams in the past 10 years:
2012 Round 10 Essendon
2016 Round 20 Hawthorn
2017 Round 8 Adelaide
2018 Round 22 West Coast
2018 SF1 Hawthorn

Hate to say it, but no. I don't think I'll ever truly trust them until I see them put in a 4 quarter demolition performance. That said a win against the tigers could well change that.

What an odd feeling. Instead of worrying that Richmond would come back I was expecting more demon goals. Very very odd

Not even Dusty could save them Fester. Time to embrace the strange new times.

If we carry on and smash Norf, the answer will be yes. For the first time in my Melbourne supporting life.

Same.
Was half expecting party time like last week against the Dawks.
We've taken your best now cop this ....

Liked what I saw against the Cats.
Thoroughly enjoyed the last qr last week.
And was confident we had the premiers at half time this week.
I trust these boys .... I can see the steely resolve in 'em.
The lid is well and truely off for me.

I've gone on record in stating our structures in and around the ball set up will stand up against the best.

Our leg speed and improved foot skills and decision making around the wings is destroying teams, not many teams beat the Tiges on the G under lights on the big stage.

There is no greater litmus test than that in the game of Aussie Rules.

These Demons are made of stearn stuff, don't you worry about that.

The Dees demolished the Saints in a comprehensive 74-pointshellacking.  We filled our boots with percentage — now a whopping 520.7% — and sit atop the AFLW ladder. Melbourne’s game plan is on fire, and the competition is officially on notice.

  • REPORT: Collingwood

It was yet another disappointing outcome in a disappointing year, with Melbourne missing the finals for the second consecutive season. Indeed, it wasn’t even close, as the Demons' tally of seven wins was less than half the number required to rank among the top eight teams in the competition. When the dust of the game settled and supporters reflected on Melbourne's  six-point defeat at the hands of close game specialists Collingwood, Max Gawn's words about his team’s unfulfilled potential rang true … well, almost.
