Spargo get real !!

yeah I was a wee bit drunk when I posted that.   Spargo was great don't know why I put his name in.

Ive always been a Spargo fan, always stuck up for him and have been saying since his first year hes our best decision maker inside 50.  His tackling was always good but now it is elite in its technique and effectiveness.

So for the record I rate Spargo as one of our most important forwards and a key part of our offensive machinery and did even before this season.

Seems I was the only one wildly frustrated with TMac today

Nah, I can totally see where you're coming from.

If you'd asked me straight after the game how TMac played, I would have said poorly. He made loads of mistakes and his decision-making was poor, at times.

That said, I was surprised to see his stats, which suggest he's doing something right and I don't think he should be dropped but if our true key forwards get fit, his time may be up anyway.

Apart from May I can't see any other change required.

Bring in Tom Petty, leave Sparrow in the side - he did some nice things today.

Jimmy Jords med sub.

any relation to Harry ;)

May and Jordon (sub) --> Petty and Sparrow for mine

Kinda glad Petty gets a chance. Can't replace AA FB, but I'm bullish on Petty. He deserves to be playing AFL now and in time, I think he'll become a very good key back himself.

Glad we got him on contract until end 22, hope he signs longer.

So, we'll get a good look at him.

Totally agree. We are very lucky to have a player of that quality to come in and it will be very interesting to see if can hang on to him long term. Too good to play VFL for another 12 months.

Early forecast for this coming Sunday is showers.  Hope thats wrong, we have a massive score and win in us just need a dry deck.

Update -   weather forecast for Sunday now 21 degrees and cloudy,  30% chance of rain.

If it is dry we will kick 20 goals minimum against the bottomfeeder Hawks squad.

Well, the good thing about Tom is that in a contest, he won’t back down.

May’s likely opponent Mitch Lewis out suspended. Lessens the blow for us a bit.

Can’t see BB being risked yet. Needs more match time in VFL.

More likely Hibberd comes in - leaving Tomlinson to handle the talls?

They play two rucks and rest one forward, and Koschitzke, and will likely replace Lewis with O'Brien. So they'll have three talls. We may need Petty for cover.

I'm thinking Max will sit in the hole defensively this week....

Yes, from all accounts he will stand his ground.

Petty only played a half for Casey. Same as Weed and B Brown.  If he’s coming back from injury he might not be ready yet. Goody has said that both Brown and Weed are at least a couple if weeks away.

The next best ‘tall’ defender was probably J Smith.  He may well get the call up as May’s replacement.

I suspect they’ll bring in Hibberd and just play Lever and Tomlinson as the talls.

I thought Goody said the Petty would come in for Maysie in his presser.

Didn't Petty get taken off to ensure we had an emergency who didn't play a full game (Hibberd, Petty and Chandler the three)?

Yep definitely picturing that, it’s a great asset to have to throw back there if needed.

Jackson is building with confidence, still on the cusp of a breakout game. Would love it to be against the Hawks.

Two changes. Petty for May locked in and personally I’d go Hibbo in for Rivers

Rivers hasn’t been poor, although 11 touches at 54% doesn’t exactly jump off the page. It’s more that Hibbo makes us a better side. Simple as that.

Melksham will play and will also lift next week. He’s literally the only guy in the team who walked off with a cloud of doubt lingering over him. He’ll be feeling that scrutiny, and will know it’s put in or get out. Could be a hard team to get back into, as well.

As I wrote last week he did NOTHING to earn a call up and yet was selected!! Performed poorly! Clearly a Goody fav, and given your summation put in or get out, on what justification does he get a gig this week!

I wonder if the AFL's pet Richmond having an extra 3 day break than us before the Anzac game affect our changes vs the Hawks at all

That’s actually disgraceful fixturing. Doesn’t have to be even but atleast don’t have the difference at a maximum it can be.

Petty for May.

Prefer Sparrow to Melksham but Goodwin loves the milkshake so he likely stays.

Hibberd next in line but can't see anybody in the current 22 that deserves being replaced for him.

Goodwin has stated that neither Brown nor Weid will play Seniors this week.

Like for like Petty A cert.

Hibbo has to wait

Melksham lucky get another chance ONLY this one though!

I agree. If the brains trust want to bring Hibbo back in for some gametime then Rivers is the most likely candidate for mine. Been reasonable thus far. He has looked a little unsure at times so a few games with Casey might help build his confidence.

Never understood the Hibbo for Jetta calls.

Give him another game to see how he goes. Play poorly again Hawthorn and i reckon he'll have to go back to Casey. Can't pick him for Richmond on the back of 2 poor games.

Hibberd for May and Sparrow for Goodys best mate

Does anyone have those hidden stats for “pressure acts” and “one percenters” particularly re Melksham?  Just watching the game he appeared to have little involvement.
Still, regardless, Goody won’t drop him.

I havent really seen Petty play! Hope he is not a heartbreaker!

Pretty amazing fixturing but hardly surprising, we’re coming off a 6 day break though so it’s not a crazy short turnaround. Fingered crossed the Saints push them all the way and batter them.

Who comes in and who goes out for our Round 05 clash against the Hawks at the MCG?

OUT- May/Maybe Jetta?

IN- Petty/Hibberd

Jetta was actually quite good again. Mitch Lewis has been suspended for a week so need to panic on tall Back but it could be good to get Petty in before the Richmond game? And it depends how they rate Jetta's game. He dropped a mark he would normally take but other than was good.

Melksham would want to pull his finger out of his [censored], because we can't carry him and Jones in that fwd line and last I checked Jones had similar stats and is miles ahead!

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
