We have drafted really well the last few years

may it continue.
can’t knock the Club if they have a serious crack at someone who ultimately says no thanks.
butters is a serious talent

Love his work. I think Jacko will prove a masterstroke in time.

Absolutely. LJ (Torana) is a gun, so is Butters.
i am ecstatic that our recruiting staff identified both boys.
we are getting sharper at identifying Real Talent

And didn't we also have our hearts set on Mitch Georgiades until Port cut our lunch and got in a bit earlier.

We ended up using that pick on Rivers. I like Rivers but Georgiades looks like he'll be a gun forward for the next 10 years.

As opposed to Rivers who appears to be a very solid defender for the next 12 years?

A good sign that that pretty much every guy JT drafts or wants to draft has turned into a good player.

Let's see how Max Holmes pans out for Geelong - he could be another to add to the list.

We identified Lever and Langdon in their drafts years and worked quietly in the background to bring them to the club. I'm hoping we are trying to do the same for Butters and Georgiades.

Not that Port lose players they want to keep unfortunately.

Robertson just started getting games for the Lions and didn't look out of place.

It's a nice change to read these stories and think "wow what a good player he'd be here" rather than "yeah but he wouldn't be the same player if he had of been drafted to us" which always used to be said about players we previously decide not to pick (Nik Nat, Martin, Fyfe etc)

Butters is a gun and I’d take him over everyone our list except Petracca (hides from incoming assault)

i wouldn't go that far but he's definitely one player it's super easy to admire from afar

He's awesome.

A philosophical debate which has raged for centuries may finally be put to rest, 'Guns or butter? Why not both?'

I doubt we would have been so happy to give up the pick if we had known it would be pick 3. Imagine the angst we would have had on here knowing we had a terrible season with no 1st round pick.... as much as I love the idea of Butters I think Jackson will be something special too.

Funny thing reading back this thread. anyway bumping the Butters topic as he is a pre-agent (hate this word) and will potentially attract some attention this year or next ( as RFA)

I’d love this guy in our team but not sure it’s where we need focus or whether it’s an excess to our current needs. If it’s a RFA play and we have cap space, then sure why not.

With all the chatter around LJ, Kozzy and our obvious list holes I wonder whether JT and Lamby are having dıscussions with his manager given how we tried to get him in 2018.

He, Davies-Uniacke or Allen? We have to land one of them and we have the money with Brayshaw retiring.

You'd never say no to Butters but we need smalls and talls

We've gone 4 first round mids in two years in the draft

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Essendon

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
